There are six ways to get money in Second Life.
1. Buy it, with a credit card or PayPal account. As others have said, this is by FAR the easiest and most efficient way to get L$. Work a couple hours in RL, play for a couple weeks in SL.
2. Camping, or, for residents under 30 days old, harvesting money trees. This is boring and very inefficient. You actually pay more for the electricity your computer uses than you make camping.
3. Win contests or sploder prizes at clubs. Very chancy, but at least you get to go to some lively parties.
4. Work at a job...a dancer, escort, host, DJ, model, teacher, or estate manager. The pay is better than camping, but still much lower than even minimum wage jobs in RL. The work can be interesting, though, especially if you like people.
5. Create content and sell it. This requires skill...you must learn Photoshop, or scripting, or animation, or building with prims. Or all the above. It may also require an investment of real money...in software, or land for a store, marketing, texture upload fees, etc. It is a slow way to make money, because you have to learn the skills, then create enough product(s) to be worth selling, then set up your store, and become known. However, it can be highly satisfying and, if you have exceptional drive and talent, can be very profitable. There is no shortcut to this process...so beware of people who offer to sell you a "Business In A Box" turnkey operation, who will try to tell you that they have an easy road to success for you. It's a dead end.
6. Buy land and rent it out. This requires a very large investment of real money if you want to turn this into a full time business with enough of a return to support you in Real Life. You'll need to invest maybe $50,000 - 75,000...although you can do it a little bit at a time and build your empire from its own revenues. A variation on this is buying land, subdividing it, and selling the parcels at a profit. This requires a smaller capital investment, but it's also a lot riskier, since land prices, unlike real estate in Real Life, tend to go DOWN over time, as Linden Lab creates more land.

From: Yosef Okelly That's it! The best DJ's are drunk Sorry if I offended any Irish people. If you would like to make a counter point, feel free to come over. We'll discuss it over a few pints and maybe have a scuffle in the ally and makeup over another pint. A counter pint?

From: Qie Niangao On the other hand, for most clubs, I don't think you need experience, people skills, or knowledge of music: just a wide assortment of canned gestures about how hot everybody looks and how much fun everybody is having and, well, all the same stuff hosts say except the bit about tipping the DJ. Which is pretty much why I don't go to clubs

From: Vito Eisman Its pretty much impossible for me to make money. I want to DJ but I don't get how to play music over Second Life. I been looking over the classifieds and they are either DJs,Escorts, or Dancers. Non of these are appealing expect Dj of course. Can anyone give me some advice? Although it may not sound like it, you've been given some good advice. Let me add one more thing: learn the territory. A DJ hosts parties. So you need to understand the people you're entertaining. Spend some time and money exploring and going to the kind of places you'd like to work at. Take a few classes, even if you don't think the topics are very interesting. Hang out at welcome centers, Infohubs & clubs. Meet people. Make friends. When you have some experience with whatever sound system you want to use, throw a party. Throw lots of parties. When someone decides to hire you, you'll have a list of people to invite, and you'll know they will actually show up. Once that happens, you've got the start of something. Yeah, this is the hard way to make money. It's better than the easy way -- the hard way works.
