In order to dj, the easiest way to to get a hold of some MP3 streaming software and rent a shoutcast stream(which requires RL money). I think you'll find more info if you use the search. |

Here is the web link with all the info for SAM www.spacialaudio.com/index.php . You can also use winamp to DJ (this is what i use) www.shoutcast.com/download/broadcast.phtml , download the free one. You will also need the Shoutcast DSP plugin which is also found previous url. If you have vista this page by DJ Nexus helps with getting the mic to work www.nexeusfatale.com/dj/problems-djing-with-windows-vista/ he also has some other great info on being a dj in there . The winamp forum are a great resource of info on streaming. Last but not least here is the link of the place that host my stream www.radiostreamer.com i pay 8.75 a month. If you have any other question send me an IM inworld and i can try to help.

Be willing to work for tips early on though, till you are proven to be a good DJ and then you'll want to look into making a demo and be willing to do a gig or two as a proof that you can work the crowd at a club.

One of the most common misconceptions that folks have initially with SL is that you can just go find a 'job' in world and make money. Not. Well....I take that back.....if you are happy with maybe $2.50 - $5 USD for your couple hours of work.....have at it.
But the reality is, it takes money to make money. In SL you've got to invest your time and that means not being able to explore and do some of the more interesting things because you're stuck at one location dancing or DJ'ing or hosting..... That's only an opinion but it's something to consider. If you really would enjoy it....go for it! But, don't expect to make tons of L's. Buying is easier, much easier. Anyway...I'm not trying to discourage you....just try to have fun in SL.... if you focus too much on 'making L's' there's a good chance you're going to get frustrated. I know way too many folks who canned the whole job idea because they were bored silly and not making enough L's to justify a 'schedule'. But, I also know some folks who really love their DJ'ing gigs! ![]() |

My advice is: start threads with a meaningful title. It makes them easier to read and easier to search.
Other than that, my advice is to go buy $10US worth of Lindens and go out and have fun in Second Life. While you are doing that, talk to DJs in world; go to a DJ class; Google "Shoutcast"; search "Shoutcast" in world and visit the shops of people who rent Shoutcast streams. This last may be very useful - they have a vested interest in creating more DJs they can rent streams to, so they may be very helpful in walking you through the process. Also, search these forums for "shoutcast," "stream," and similar terms. Your question, believe it or not, has been asked dozens of times and occasionally answered in some detail. Finally, my advice echoes Milla's: don't worry about finding a job and making money unless it's something you really enjoy doing. No job in SL pays enough, especially at the beginning, to be worth doing if it isn't fun. You can go a long way by putting a small amount of real money into the game, especially while you learn a trade or a SL skill. A few bucks a week will give you hundreds of Lindens to play with. _____________________

My advice is: start threads with a meaningful title. It makes them easier to read and easier to search. in my 13000 posts I have started a total of 37 threads .. One of them was on this very issue. It was summarily flamed and the thread locked. So evidently cryptic thread titles are a Phil Linden given right. |

These huge privately-owned Island clusters are always looking for people with lots of time on their hands to handle their customer and build issues. I saw once that someone was offering an Estate Manager course. It is worth looking into if you want to make that kind of money in SL and you have the time to dedicate to it. _____________________

Not true. As long as you know how to Dj in SL many clubs will PAY YOU to DJ. There are at least ten clubs advertising daily in these forums and even more in-world at my Job room and several employment groups. . Yes, but they want experienced DJs And that means performing and getting the experience. A 1 day course isn't going to make you a DJ, it makes you able to use the tools. It doesn't teach you the people skills to work a crowd _____________________

Well....I take that back.....if you are happy with maybe $2.50 - $5 USD for your couple hours of work.....have at it. Too true. The fastest and easiest way to get Linden Dollars is to buy 'em. A 1 day course isn't going to make you a DJ, it makes you able to use the tools. It doesn't teach you the people skills to work a crowd It probably also helps to actually know something about the music you're playing, so it's not completely obvious that you're really just the host's alt, filling in till the owner can find a proper DJ. On the other hand, for most clubs, I don't think you need experience, people skills, or knowledge of music: just a wide assortment of canned gestures about how hot everybody looks and how much fun everybody is having and, well, all the same stuff hosts say except the bit about tipping the DJ. _____________________

I think it's genetic. Well, partially. Some of us introverts could have years of experience and we'd still be crappy DJs, whereas other people are Irish. LMAO Qie.... you know something, that makes total sense, even though it probably shouldn't.. ![]() |

Well they do want to see you in action. They want to know you can work the crowd and keep the party going. A technical DJ that uses canned stuff isn't a crowd creator, they can keep it going if the club draws a crowd. A good social DJ can take a small crowd and turn it into an event, because they will call their friends to come see the show. _____________________

If you would like to make a counter point, feel free to come over. We'll discuss it over a few pints and maybe have a scuffle in the ally and makeup over another pint. And if my apology offended anyone, ... I was actually talking about the typical Texas cowboy way of "bonding", not saying that the Irish are all drunken brawlers. And for and cowfolk out there who are now offended ... piss off. If you were offended you are not a real cowboy. We now return you to your originally scheduled flamage. _____________________

I'm sitting at work, reading the forums. In the time it took me to read this thread I have earned more L$ value than 2 hours of SL work will pay. I once ran store that not only paid for the permium account but also made a small profit, but that store took a lot of work. Still, there is a lot of satisfaction when your hobby pays for itself. Now only if the forums were livelier the deal would be even better. |
