I'm new to this game and got some questions.

1) How do you get money in this game?

2) How do you build houses, clubs, etc in this game?

To answer your first question:

You can buy Linden Dollars (L$) through your account here. Here is the webpage:

For learning to build use Search and Places to find the Ivory Tower Library of Primitives.

Also search in Events under Education for building classes.

For friends....Say Hi to other residents! Don't be put off if they ignore you or are rude. I'll drop you a couple of landmarks for places with friendly people. If they're deserted, check back another time. Also look for groups with similar interests to yours in Search.

1. The way to get money in SL is to make things and sell them, or to sell services. It is generally easier to make money in RL and then use some of that money to buy lindens.

2. I recommend you go to The Ivory Tower of Prims I learned a lot there when I was new.

3. Don't worry once you start doing things you enjoy you'll meet some other people who are doing them too.

Take your time and explore.

Go to as many different kinds of events and classes as you can.

Eventually you will find your group of friends and what you truely enjoy doing in SL.

It's a marvelous place and loving what you are doing just makes it better.

Try Search>Events>Education for heaps of classes on everything SL and heap of stuff that's not too.
Don't go out and get land till you really think you need it, possibly rent land first to work out how much you want. There's heaps of good land at good prices about so shop around.
If you're going to give money to anyone and worry a bit, check their SL birthdate to make sure they aren't a 1 week old disposble rippoff alt.

You came to the right place. Making money in SL is always the most common question and you've got the easiest answer already. Buy it. LOL Your best bet to begin with is just to explore and make friends. It's possible to get a job in SL.....though you make your money at an agonizingly slow rate......or 'camp'....but that means you have to stay in one spot for hours just to get maybe 100L.... kind of boring and defeats the purpose of exploring and learning.

There's lots to learn in SL and building is definitely a fun pursuit, but it's tedius and it takes some time to master the tools. You might want to just start off with learning about your avatar and how to edit your own appearance...use 'prim' attachments (prims are the building blocks of SL....and also many of the things you see avatars wearing like hair, and certain clothing pieces, are made of prims) As you begin to get a good understanding of the basics......it will help you better grasp the whole concept of building.

I'm also a mentor in SL....so if you would like some in-world help....you can IM me. Just type my name in search-people.....and you can send a messege. I'd be happy to help you get your feet wet. Also....you're going to find a lot of folks as you explore who are helpful.....and a few that are not...but oh well...that's just cause some people are, shall we say....a bit more 'reserved' than others. lol Bottom line...just have fun.

Just an added caution that you pay a 30 cent fee per time you buy L$ so if you are going to buy some, don't repeatedly buy small amounts.

If you buy for $1 30% is wasted on the fee, if you buy for $5 it drops to 6%, etc .

As for how much you would need, an initial $10 worth (gives you about L$2570) should be more than enough to not have to worry about camping, having L$ to buy freebies, and being able to buy something from a store.

You don't have to buy any L$ by any means, but you'll be able to just spend time learning about SL and having fun .

If you were anything like when I was new um I strong suggest don't bother with Ivory of Prim Towers it's bit complex and confusing until you got basic understanding of the building tools. No offense to creator of the place but I found it personally very confusing and hard to follow.
I suggest you try the in world search in events/education check out some beginner building courses or less busy public sandbox like in Furnation if it still there to experiment..

Yeah, I must admit I already had some 3d modeling experience when I got to SL.

As previously explained, the best and easiest way is to purchase Lindens on the Lindex. Once you have developed some creative skills in building, making clothes, scripting or whatever you are interested in, you will be able to make and sell your own items (but for that you will need enough lindens in capital to buy or rent land to get a store).


The actual building skills can be learned in many places, for instance the Ivory Tower of Primitives, or following the tutorials on Help Island. Places like the Shelter and New Citizens Plaza run classes teaching beginner and advanced building skills. Practise on small things, and work your way up. You can build in sandboxes to start with if you don't have your own land. Once you feel that you're skilled enough to build a house or club then you'll need to buy or rent land in order to actually set it up.


in "search", search for events or places that have something to offer that you're interested in. eg if you're into rock music, search for rock events and gigs. Attend the events, join relevent groups, and above all don't be afraid to talk to people. Most folk in SL are friendly and are there to chat.

Freebies. Rather than spend what few Lindens you have on fancy clothing, click on SEARCH and type in Free. There are loads of quality clothes and items free for the taking.
