Once having two choices of parcels to buy, I went with the more expensive one with a name I could pronounce. I do not offhand remember the unwieldy named one though.
I do want the names to reflect the culture I sprang from just so I feel I fit in better. _____________________

When I was looking for a mainland 512m parcel for my little shop, I had a really difficult time finding one that had what I considered a pronounceable region name. Every parcel I liked had some outlandish name. I wanted something simple, pronounceable, and that I could remember. I ended up with Varsity. i wish I could remember the others to give as examples.
I know that the Lindens had to name a lot of regions -- and they came up with really good names for many of them. But the scarce 512s on pronounceable regions (this was a year ago; the mainland is a lot more yellow now) made me suspect I might not be the only one being fussy about region names. _____________________

it hasn't, only because I haven't run across a name I didn't think would work. It would, if I did.

If the region has some REALLY hard to remember name I'll avoid it, but my First Land is on Noonkkot so I'm not super-picky.

Our estate has a bunch of sims with pretty tree names (Ash, Maple, Palm, whatever) and one sim called "Fashion Style" left over from some deal my wife made me do for one of her friends.
We've since reclaimed the sim and converted it to residential only. Personally I think the sim name is ugly and I really want to change it but the cost is $100. The sim is just as popular as any other sim of ours. It seems people don't care about the sim name at all. If the sim was ever empty we'd rename it but if people are just going to keep renting there anyway it would be a waste of money. _____________________

My thought when I bought my first plot in Sentry was, "...and I don't hate the name."

I don't care so much that it is pronounceable, but easy to spell and remember. Our very first location was on Meteguese - no that's not right. I never could spell it or remember it. Makes it very hard to give directions.
Now I can say, "Yep. I live on Serenity. Search for that in search (with Adult Content Enabled as of next week or whenever) and it'll be the first thing you find. Come see us any time!" |

I voted 'Sometimes,' and by sometimes I mean 'just an eensy-weensy-teensy little bit'.
I'm pretty indifferent to sim names, and haven't seen a mainland sim name yet that made me think, "oh, heck no! no way am I living THERE!" But I have seen a few that have made me think, "oh, cool! I like that!" When I was looking for my current land, I was mostly looking at neighboring builds, sim traffic, the appearance of the land - but the fact that this particular parcel was located on Fatpaws and surrounded by sims with other feline names made it just the tiniest bit more attractive to me. (Trippy philosophical thought for the day: Would the way cool sim names be quite as cool without ordinary sim names for contrast...?) _____________________

The first sim where we rented land was called Ambrosia. Such a lovely, peaceful, melodic name. And the (mainland) sim lived up to its name. One would have thought it was a "designed" community in that all the builds were lovely, complimentary - no ugly signs, ads, etc. (in the day those were tolerated). Someone even built a Zen meditation center on it and a lake with swan boats.
After the sim owner (or at least our landlord) sold out due to VAT, we looked high and low and ended up on...Warbluster. I felt like I should build a battle ship and blast anyone who came near by the name...lol. It was typical mainland blight, but the land was the size we needed and we lived in the sky so just didn't come down to ground (or rather "water" level very often.Over time, Warbluster became a pretty sim as well. Not as pretty as Ambrosia, but not the total stick-in-eye hideousness it was when we first rented. We lived there over a year and a half and watched many changes. I sold my land and am currently "homeless" but I still visit Warbluster and now it has become the land of banlines. ![]() _____________________

Although Chez Gabrielle is one of my favorite stores, the sim name it's on is kind of off-putting to me. It's the only one I can think of that sets my teeth on edge (although doesn't keep me from shopping). Ratsmaw.

I would not buy or rent land in a sim with an unpleasant or violent-sounding name. I couldn't imagine telling someone "My home is in the Trolls Fart sim!" or some equally unpalatable name. Same for any business I was running.
An unpronouncable or easily misspelled name would also detract from the desirability of the land, for me. All other things being equal, a sim name that is pleasant sounding, easy to remember, and easy to spell will have an edge, for me. _____________________

I currently have a 512 on the Gomes sim. Something about that name irks me. It sounds kind of harsh. I only use that location to have a sky platform for building.
My store is located on Zoha Islands. I love the location and the area. I especially like that Islands is in the name since I sell tropical furniture. I wont buy any land with an ugly name. It just puts a bad taste in my mouth. (Okay, I did buy land in that ugly sim called Gomes, but it was dirt cheap and I do only use it for work. _____________________

"No" vote...
Years ago I owned land on ummm.... uuuuhhhhhh.... well it started with an "H" and that's all I knew back then too. I had the parcel set to home and handed out landmarks when someone wanted to know where I was. I bought for the snow in the sim. |

Yes, it meant stacks, I live in Sylvester and like it cuz it reminds me of the cat from when I was a kid, I loved him.
They are all pet names where I live, I dig it heaps. I'm often looking to see if some land is up on Lassie next door and didn't buy up in Bouncer because I don't like the name. That said, I took weeks to select my land, it has great views and nice stable quiet neighbors. Also I would have bought in a name area I didn't like if I had had to, but it would have always mildly annoyed me. _____________________

My first land was on Gorunbum - geez I hated that name although it was a nice enough looking area, well maintained.
I'm in Zellig now. LOVE the name, because of the Woody Allen movie. Still makes me laugh 1-1/2 years later. For the most part, I wouldn't pass up good land in a silly sounding sim, since I'm still going to be naming my property whatever I choose to and that's what it will be known as but it does help a bit, to have some feeling of connection to the name of the sim. _____________________

My first 512 was on Secret Smile...I loved the name, always reminded me of that song by Hall & Oates, 'Sara Smile,' which was popular at a good time in my life
![]() Now my main place is on 'Eldora' which is just as pleasant...reminds me of a mix between Endora on Bewitched and one of our fav residents...Hi Elora ![]() _____________________

I currently own land in two regions.
I bought the land in Plebeja because the neighbors were all building in a forested theme and the price was right. I don't like the name though, I don't even know how I'm supposed to pronounce it LOL Then, later I bought land in Foxglove because of the name Also, again, the price was right Now if only there weren't a full glow church right next door._____________________
