1. Open computer case. 2. Take hamster out of wheel and slap and tickle it. 3. Put hamster back in wheel. 4. Close computer case. 5. Restart program. Is it just SL? I'm not having any such problems.

Move it to the desktop and SL will recreate it. Don't delete it or you'll lose all your chat logs. It's in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\SecondLife\ in Vista and C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\SecondLife\ in XP.

It sometimes happens to me too. Usually I run Copybo... oops I mean Spybot S&D to give my machine a thorough cleaning and the problem is solved.
last time it happened, it was heat. after a good cleaning of the inside of the computer, it was gone.
Ow and a tip for those enviromental freaks that use alternatives like Hamster Powered computters: use them in pairs paralel will trigger competition spirit resulting in more output of power.

Have you tried going to the cache folder and deleting the contents through Windows instead of using the viewer's clear cache function?
The last alternative would be to uninstall SL, move all the SL Application support folders to the desktop (or some other location) and try reinstalling completely clean.

Yes..I uninstalled yesterday..and reinstalled..both the SL and the Emerald viewer, both do the same thing...ive ran every cleaner and virus checker on my pc...reg defraged..defraged hard drive.. i even restored my pc to an earlier date when SL was working..just a few days ago..im stumped... If it was my pc..wouldnt it do that on other programs..freeze/lock up?

Did you manually move the Application folder? It isn't deleted when you do an un/reinstall.

The program creates a new one; you have all your chat logs, etc.

Maybe try as ticket, let them know you have a problem that fonly seems to affect the one avatar, ask support to see if they can get you to log in on their end, maybe dump all your attachments for you if you can't.
Less drastic, try logging in to some different sims, it's possible that some object at your normal login spot is doing bad things to your avatar, intentionally or not.

have you tried logging in that account on another PC to see if it is the PC or the account...
you did say an alt has no problems, which leads me to believe it si not the pc, like overheating and such, and you did a completely clean install (unless it is something gone wonky in the registery, not sure if that would create the problems you described though.)
If you have not tried a different PC, try one, see what happens.

Actually Yummy i have been having the same issue the past few days this is a relatively new computer and we have chacked all the usuals which could have been causing it. I ONLY freeze when SL is running and it happens more frequently if i run two viewers at once. Tis very odd

The next steps I'd take would be to start looking for bad hardware. Do a surface scan on your hard drive, and check your memory. To scan the drive, go to "My Computer" right click on your drive, select properties and select tools. Go to Error checking and check "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". You can get Microsoft's memory diagnostic here: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Note that a surface scan to check for bad sectors might take a good while if you have a big hard drive. Also you might try running it with cover removed so that you can physically see whether the fans are spinning properly while operating. Just looking, no touching anything while it's operating. While it's not plugged in, the fans should spin if you blow on them. If you give them a gentle push they should continue to spin a bit. The normal thing to do for dust removal is to get a can of compressed air and use that overall and specifically on the fans. Radio Shack and Office Depot both carry them. There's are memory tests that might be worth running. Here's a link to an article with some offerings: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/memorytest.htm
