I wish more people would have sex in public, RL and SL, but that's just me. My place in Bella, now in Conroy in Zindra, was the first free public sex venue in SL.

This is how I am as well, and public sex is one of my weaknesses. Having started my SL as an escort (before I signed up for a premium account and got a stipend) I guess I have a rather jaded view of SL “pixel rubbing”. At first the idea of being a “call girl” in SL seemed rather exciting but once I had my first customer I quickly discovered it was hard work if you wanted to do it so you’d get repeat business. I've heard 'wanking' many times in my life -- in the US - and have known the meaning since I was a teenager.

My Player is an "older resident" both in terms of having been here a while and being an established businessperson, and in terms of being older chronologically in RL than many of the people I encounter in SL.

As long as the area is appropriately rated, and the area is designated as such that public sex is an acceptable activity, I see no harm in it. I've gone occasionally to places where couples could freely make out in plain sight of others. I even designed and built one such place for a client, with over 50 sets of pose balls in a huge multi-level area.

I've told my SL Partner that if they wanted me to do so, I'd happily mate with them on the 50-yard line of a packed stadium, or any other very public spot (as long as such play was allowed at that spot). I don't mind being seen while engaged in sex play, and it can be fun as a variation. It can even be somewhat exciting to have a stranger watch, provided that is what you planned for as a possibility when you chose the spot.

But my own preference is to set up a detailed and well-equipped private venue for romantic encounters, where I can be sure no one will be offended by what takes place, or by what is said in chat.

I *do* think it is tacky to have public sex in SL in an area not suitably designated or rated, like in someone's store or in a Sandbox area. There are plenty of places in SL where such play is accepted and welcome, so there is no reason to expose others to it when it is undesired by those other people.

Now that everyone has had the chance to weigh in, i'll explain a little bit about why I asked in the first place in case anyone is interested and if not, c'est la vie, gtfo.

I've been running what I call a private pleasure sim where I allow members to use a number of really amazing builds across a full sim for their sexual fulfillment. Part of the arrangement is that they don't get any silly notions of privacy from other members in that anyone can go anywhere all the time (ie, no rental skyboxes- although the skyboxes do exist they are all accessible, most of the builds are at ground level). Everyone coming into the group to use the sim has the understanding that they can always seek privacy or exhibitionism/voyeurism out there, and there is etiquette involved if you want to engage a couple (or 3+some) who you may be interrupting, AND every member has the power to eject from the parcels. I outfit it as someone said in an earlier post, in a manner that many can't afford to do with these membership fees, and I try to only bring in experienced, articulate residents.

What i've found is that even the most brazen members tend to be somewhat shy in public situations due to a fear of judgement. Perhaps it's because they feel there is a general order to things- you don't just hop randomly onto a poseball with a stranger and start going at it- which i can agree with...but...I had really expected there to be more enthusiasm when presented with a room full of people who all were there for the same basic reason, and who all 'fit the bill' of being non-noobish in their avatar characteristics and so forth. I find it's terribly hard to get them to let their guard down.

I attribute it to the paradigm of older residents who are more articulate and versed in the ways of cyber, also are the ones who feel the most pressure to not appear as the 'HNG' (horny new guy/girl). It is seemingly 'faux pas' to show any great deal of enthusiasm for public sex UNLESS you are fresh off the boat and wearing a freenis.

There *are* exceptions to this rule, and they have become some of my best buds... People who accept that they are highly sexual creatures, who have many other talents and hobbies, but who are OK with throwing caution to the wind and just letting it all hang out. Ok, now I understand what you were saying and agree with it, I'm the same way as well. The way it read sounded like you were referring to classic emotional and physical intimacy, which is based on shared history and transparency between two in love. That's something you won't find between people who've just met or just gotten to know each other, and why I said it's really out of place at most of the public sex places in SL.. because they ARE hookup places. Usually it's noobs that do what you're talking about and yeah, it's funny how criteria can be met 3 seconds after meeting.




Believe it or not, it's the noobs you've weeded out... the ones having the hilariously bad sex that acts like the ice-breaker. Their presence unwittingly sets the bar of "what's acceptable" for the place *low enough* that the older AV's won't feel like they're making a scene if they act on their impulses. Without them, nobody want's to be the first, OR the worst.

Also have to consider that older residents are much pickier in what fits their own personal bill. Contrasts of perspective, style, and SL/RL outlook that wouldn't phase the "HNG's" become hurdles for those who won't jump just anything.

There is also the issue of standards and reputations that may be at work as well. While not so much an issue for the truly carefree or newbies, most people are, by nature, at least somewhat concerned by how their behavior appears to others. In an environment where everyone 'fits the bill', and all have at least a certain degree of refined maturity, that concern gets elevated. What was once indescretion becomes discretion depending on the company.

If it is done in IM, I don't care. But since most people tend to use "mmm, yes, faster Oh god, yes" over and over and over, if they do that in open chat they should have their prim parts cut off and fed to angry ferrets. (I just want to see if Argent has a picture for that)
