From: Fluf Fredriksson It is without a doubt THE most annoying type of crash when it takes you 5 minutes to realise things aren't working because the server connection has died. The Nicholaz viewer may or may not help these, but recent versions DO detect it, so you get a popup when it happens telling you that you have - I think he calls it 'redscreened'. It is indeed a lost connection between server and client. You can read all your IMs and notices, but that's pretty much it. Get Nick's viewer at his blog: http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/Link to the download area is on the right. "Bleeding Edge" for voice viewer, "Old School" for non-voice. Read and follow the install instructions - easy but a little unusual. He also has MAC and Linux viewers now.

Ahh yes.. the ever-popular "getting stuck in limbo" thing. Everyone's doing it.. it's what the cool kids do Some good info here about what to try, but I didn't see one thing mentioned. It MATTERS which datacenter the sim your on is hosted at. It may be that you're getting enough garbage on your connection route to a sim hosted at one datacenter that the sim drops you, but have a clear path to one hosted at the other facility. If this happens frequently, try changing sims to one thats at the opposite datacenter location.

It just happened to me this morning while I was taking a snapshot. The Nicholaz viewer (Bleeding Edge Version S) consistantly alerts you to the fact that it happened right when (very soon after) it happened. Getting that message helps a lot when you're in an edit session so you don't spend the next 1/2 hour making changes only to find out you can't save the changes. It saves a lot of wasted time. I highly recommend getting the Nicholaz viewer. It's way, way, way better then the standard LL viewers.

Tonights update: Nicolaz veiwer is installed and running, however does not defeat the problem. I have installed the latest version of SL (not release candidate) and I am now stuck with an error message 'Login packet not received' Im real bummed about this as I was planning a nice Halloween night on SL. im gutted and running out of options. What I will be doing next is: - Changing ISP - Check/replace hardware including modem and hubs where required. - Seek profesional assistance in checking the lines for damage causing what I now think is a missing packet problem, and decrease in bandwidth. God this problem is making me sound like a nerd I have learnt a lot these last few days, with all the research I have done. Im willing to put my bet on it being a poor ISP (Internet service provider) and that changing this will help. If I deplete these final options, unfortunatly SL will be on AV down. (still you guys get more bandwidth then) Fingers crossed, Thanks for reading and supporting so far.

Before you go to the bother of changing ISPs, if it's DSL you might try just powering off your modem for 15 minutes. Everything on the network will forget about you, and your modem will be better off for its nap.
Worth a shot.

What Nika said. I wouldn't change ISPs just yet. Call them first and complain; Ava and I both had DSL problems but a phone call to the company fixed it for me and a modem change fixed it for her. Either way, your ISP should be able to diagnose the problem. (In my case it was extremely old phone wiring INSIDE the house.) If you don't call the current ISP and get it diagnosed, and then change companies, you might have the same exact problem!

From: Nessa Yiyuan i was wondering if any has found a fix for this. My ISP said it's not on my end and i am fed up with this happen every couple minutes. My ISP also said it was not on my end. When my connection got to the point where the DSL was only up maybe 10 minutes of every hour, I had them test it repeatedly, and they still swore there was no problem. But when we changed out the modem, suddenly everything was fine. Check with your ISP to see if they will loan you a different modem for a week or two, and see if that improves your connection. If it does, time to buy a new modem. Since I replaced mine several months ago, I've only lost connection to SL maybe 3-4 times.
