Cant figure this out

I dont know if this is the right forum, so please forgive me if not. This problem has been occuring quite frequently the last few days, I'll be building, or just trying to work in general, upload a texture, doesnt upload, then I see the mini map is dark, I cant move..only turn its like Ive crashed but I can still see everything and still turn in a circle..does anyone know what this is, or how to fix it..its driving me nuts becuz i have to relog constantly now..

This happens to me often after a failed teleport but often also for no reason that I can see. Relog is about all you can do.

It means that your client and the server have silently lost their connection...

Happens more on wireless netwoeking hardware that wired. Or maybe in places where the connectivity is not as good. I happens to me rarely but sometimes even on a normally flawless connection and a wired netwoerk so you can;t avoid it comepltely, but if you are on wireless, try running a cable and see if that fixes it (if you can)

I'm not sure but I think the viewer is like half crashed... Everything you see and do is being fed from your viewer's memory and it's not getting anything from SL's servers.

This happens to me all the time on a certain Sandbox. The only way out of it that I've found is to log off then on again. Which is what you already found out. That usually corrects the problem... Until it happens again, and again, and again. It's really annoying.

You might try the Nicholaz viewer. I've had very much better luck with it than the LL standard viewer. Many fewer hangups like that.

hmm so basically i just have to grin and bare it..sighs..im on dsl, so no wireless..but its getting more frequent, almost every 20 minutes..

I had this problem a lot back when I was on DSL. I eventually had to call my service provider, and they were amazed that I was even connected at all. They had to amp up the signal and run a new telephone cord, etc.

You might try adjusting the Maximum Bandwidth slider on the Network tab in Preferences,
Sometimes moving it up or down a little helps maintain the connection better.

I had a similar problem with my DSL. In my case it was fixed by getting a new DSL modem. I still have intermittent problems, but now it's a few times a week rather than a few times an hour.

It's called stealth crashing, you are disconnected but just don't know it, your AV is even still inworld montionless till you relog

This sounds like whats happened to me several times but I only recall it happening while I was at a club, but I wasn't the only one so it seems it was a server crash in my case. I generally figure out that I've lost connection when I can no longer change my dance animations. The music still plays, and I'm not trying to move so I don't really realize it until I notice the lack of chat or trying to stop or change an animation. Last night when I mentioned that upon relogging, another guy said the only way he knew was because the mini map went dark. All this and the dj's stream never stopped.

i dont know about 'normal', but it certainly is not unusual.

I had been running on the old non-voice client without problems or crashes (apart from double-TPs).
After the mandatory update, I'm starting to see freeze-ups and network issues. This is with Voice never enabled after the update.

One of the new wierdnesses:
Minimap frequently goes red/dark - but everything still works as 'normal'. In the old days, a dark/red minimap meant a 'stealth crash' and relog. Not any more!

Same here except for the network issues. Was doing just fine before the mandatory update, then began seeing the freezing thing and the stealth crashes (never knew that's what they were called I've now thrown Nic's latest BE version on top of the LL RC and that seems to have cleared up the freezes and the crashing.

I've had this happen and what's really screwed up is that I'll sometimes still see the chatter around me, even though I can't respond. There are various level of lost connections with SL. Only thing that I've found that helps is to log out and log back in. I'm on a wired network in the "boonies," so while the network is great, the DSL connection can be interrupted by the wild life.

As you say Raudf, there are slight variations of the symptoms at times.
For me the redout of the mini-map is the final confirmation. You aren't going to get reconnected without relogging. Sometimes I can't move forwards. This is sometimes the first indication but lately I've been stuck there for nearly a minute while things catch up and I'm moving again.
Last night I couldn't TP my fiancee to Caledon though I had succeeded the night before. Last night my IMs failed and I got logged out of Caledon three times in a short while. I moved to another sim and fine.
You can't say you don't get variety here!

Very often yes I think you are still in world as far as other people are concerned. When you re-log you have to tell people what the last line of IM or chat you got was. It never seems to get sent to email because the server never gets a signal that you logged off.

It is without a doubt THE most annoying type of crash when it takes you 5 minutes to realise things aren't working because the server connection has died.

What I don't understand though is if you look at the log at the time, the client seems to be desperately trying to reconnect but never manages it. I'd (wrongly) assumed that if the connection was regained the client and the server could sync up again, but it never seems to reconnect.

Even weirder one that happened to me: I had one those stealth crashes, relogged and apparently never even left as far as my friend was concerned. There were in fact two of me because I was still apparently visible where I had crashed _and_ present at my home location where I logged back in. Freaky.
Have seen the minimap red-out thing a few times again recently.

I am suffering from what has now been named the ''stealth crashing''.
Its become a serious issue, and a few weeks back I almost quit SL. I left it for a while, and it worked one evening when I couldnt resist a try.
I am now back to this form of crashing with varying intervals. I will crash anywhere from 30seconds on the game to every 10-30 minutes. Somtimes its bad, like tonight, I log on and crash.

Avatar turns, sometimes I see a bit of chat or hear a bit of voice, then crash.

I have just been offered a job in SL, and now this stealth crashing is preventing me even using SL.

I will give 1000L$ to the person who can provide me with the solution to this problem

This week I will try using a different computer, and also try this Nicolaz veiwer.
I wish LL could provide an answer since there seems to be a lot of us now with this problem.

Do by a;ll means try the Nicholaz viewer and let us know if it works

I want to crush this anoying problem, not only for myself, but for other disapointed users.
Currently running this on a ticket with LL, and will see what result we can get.

What kind of internet connection are you on? This started happening to me all the time when my DSL got fussy, and I had to get a new DSL modem that was more tolerant of line noise.

Also, is your computer connected directly, or are you on a wireless network? Wireless works for me (although laggy), but I've heard many people say it was too unreliable.

Yep that's a stealthcrash, everyone around you still sees you unresponsive inworld too till you attempt relog which logs you out and about 1-3 minutes later you can log back in, usually you see other people typing hands for a while or continuing to dance but no actual chat.
