This viewer just gets so many little things right.

For example, now I can emote just by using a colon.

Actually, I think we'll have a better chance of winning the lottery than figuring out the information from the Lindens.

Curious about the Emerald Viewer and all the features?

Sweet. I haven't done any OOC chat, but that will be useful when I need to. ;)

I've been using Emerald for maybe a month or so, and I love it. Learned a few things from others here as well (such as this thread). Going to miss that when the forum closes its doors.

I agree! I've really been enjoying Emerald these last couple of weeks, when I discovered it. I use the : emote in other text-based chats (i.e. MUDs and MUCKs), so it's a thrill to get to do it here now too!

I never knew that...I'm loving this viewer so much.

Another is not having to load a forced groundsit in my ao, but just clicking one button to sit beautifully on any surface, linden ground or not.

:is happy with emerald.

Ooh! Thanks Lindy :)

Hey maybe the real reason LL is killing us is to keep Emerald unknown

One of my favorite things in the Emerald viewer is the "visit this location" option which lets you log into the sim shown on the opening screen.

"/me" is instinctual. I type it so instinctually that its cousin, "/0" sometimes appears in group chat.

I'm not sure I can find the : easily and quickly. /me takes me less time. : /me : /me : /me /me : : : : /me /me /me /me /me /me /me /me/me /me/me/me/me/me : : : : : : : : : : : : : :: : : : : ::

/me eats carrots
: eats carrots
: dances like a loon
/me eats a loon

well, neat little trick, learned too late for me. Unless they break /me.

hmm. There is mention in thread of using : in MUDS/MUSH's etc. I have this vague recollection of using /me in MUD's/MUSH's way back in early '90s. Probably not, if people remember : so fondly. Though I know I typed /me regularly somewhere. And there was about a 15 year gap there between active in early MUD's/MUSH's and active in SL. Not sure where I'd have used /me's elsewhere.

Doesn't work for me, if I emote using the colon I get "Wulfric Chevalier: :says hello", exactly the same as in the standard viewer. Is there a setting that needs adjusting?

Yep, it's optional like on Henri's viewer. Preferences->Emerald->Misc tab, check Allow MU* poses.

Sounds like a certain forum I just dropped my previous ardent support for.

Anyway didn't someone have a jira for that feature and it was thrashed soundly before being closed won't fix? Maybe someone from emerald can submit it to snowglobe and watch it work it's way into LL's builds.

Thanks.

EDIT: Nope, still doesn't work even after a restart. Oh well, I'd probably type /me out of habit anyway.

I'm pretty sure that GemStone- the text-based MMORPG on GEnie (and later AOL, I think)- use /me as the emote command.

I found out last night that I had to set them in the Emerald tab. Worked fine for me after that. :)

It sounds like a neat feature, but it really annoys me when third-party clients do this.

Why do you find it annoying, if I may ask?

Because it's pushing people to use unofficial software; and it is, technically, against TOS.

If I remember right, Henri created a Jira a while back trying to get LL to include this function in the standard viewers, but LL didn't seen interested.

And did all the people, who are using it in Emerald, vote?

A little Pepto will fix that right up.
