A couple of days ago I received an IM from someone who said that she's a customer. She said that the bed she bought from my store isn't in her inventory. I checked my transactions for that day and found that there was no sale, so I told her that it's ok as it didn't cost her any money, so the bed won't be in her inventory, and that it must have been an SL glitch. Then she said she bought it a long time ago, and that her friends saw it in her place and can verify that she had it. I asked her when she bought it. Her reply was that she didn't know, but it was in 2007 or 2008, and she asked if she could get her money back The answer was no, of course, and then she told me to never mind as she'd found it in her Lost and Found folder.

Are you sure your traffic bots aren't doing repos on the side?

i had a few of those .. or similar.. a lot of ppl have no idea there is a transaction history.. (which i find shocking) about a month ago.. i got 2 notecards and a whole slew of IM from a very charming woman who wanted to know where her ****ing bed and other stuff was
she had paid for them she said.. used ALL her L$ at my store.. I was a thief .. etc etc.. a volley of insults withing about 10 minutes.. All starting off .. not with Hi. or hello.. but I demand .. blah blah fishpaste..
I checked transaction history.. nada.. and got back to her.. and recieved in reply another barrage.. I gave her the URL to check HER transaction history so she might find where her money went.. and suddenly there was silence..
during the lull i checked my visitor list maker.. and .. lo and behold.. she had never been on the sim .... EVER. so i thought maybe she bought them from onrez or xstreet.. but didnt frame my question like that.. I waited till she started up again.. she didnt care about the transaction history.. she KNEW she had been to the shop and that I had taken her money...
i asked her what time and then told her she hadnt been to the store.. was she sure it was my store.. i again gave her the transaction history URL and that was the last time I heard from her.
then yure my partner logs on the next day.. same woman .. different story.. this time.. she claims to have bought a massage table.. and received instead .. in the box.. 2 single futons. now the table isnt boxed.. its set to sell a copy.. the futons are free.. and dont come in twos... so this time yure asked her to return the futon AND check her transaction history.. we checked the visitor list thingie .. and she STILL hadnt been to the store. Instant silence.
I find a lot of the time when the grid is unstable.. a few like this will crawl out of the woodwork claiming they bought x and never received it... most of the time asking for the transaction number or pointing them towards their own transaction history makes them go away fairly quickly.
i think there are a few ppl who hit as many shops as they can when things are unstable.. they are as unpleasant as possible from the get go..and maybe one in ten creators will just give them something to make them go away.. there must be easier ways to get things.. i cant imagine the stress they put themselves through.. but hey .. each to his own.

Yep, we all wonder about the truthfulness of some claims. The one I wrote about claimed to have bought the bed in either 2007 or 2008 but didn't know when. Maybe she looked at my profile, saw that I signed up in December 2006, and decided that I must have made the bed during 2007 or 2008, so she threw those years at me. It's just a maybe though.

it cracks me up the things people will do to try and get something for nothing..
if the item is a couple hundred lindens i won't even bother the store owner..it's just not worht either of our time to mess with.. maybe 500 and up or something like that..
i just don't understand these people trying to get things for nothing at all.. i mean people have to enjoy stealing to be trying to steal an item from a store in SL lol. that or they are dilusional on the value of it thinking they are getting a real life 500 to 1,000 or whatever the item is worth.. i just have a hard time understanding it i guess..i mean the reasons for trying to go to all the trouble to scam a couch or a dress or anythiing at all hahahaha

It's just a maybe though. i never really know what to do when someone claims that something they bought months ago has suddenly gone missing.. there have been a lot of ppl who say the estate owner where they were just suddenly abandoned the sim and they lost everything.. i usually tell them to try and contact support and see if they can get the sim reopened for them to get thier stuff.. and if its a really good customer.. or some small things then i will replace the stuff. but it is getting more common to get . i lost my stuff notecards. now what happens if i, say buy a BMW in RL.. and 6 months later someone steals it.. or i drive it into a bottomless lake by mistake and i go to the dealer and say.. i lost my BMW.. can i have another .. or can you give me my money back.. i know a copy of a virtual item isnt a BMW.. but is the principle the same? i find it hard to make a judgement call sometimes..

With things that are months old, my first decision (to myself) is no. But if I get to feel that the person is being honest, I'll try to sort it out for them, which sometimes means helping them try to find the stuff. I really don't want people to lose the stuff because of SL bugs and things like you mentioned, but I won't replace stuff just for the asking. I need to feel that it's genuine.

If I went back to the store where I bought my lounge suite from (in real life) and asked them replace it because I'd lost it, they'd laugh at me. I have lost a few things in inventory, nothing very significant, but I have never even considered asking for a replacement. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask

Ignore Colette. I posted because the claimant said she'd bought the bed in 2007 or 2008 - >>>2007!!!<<<
It was bit extreme, to say the least.

Just an fyi...over the last 3 days ive had about 2000 items in my inventory that seem to appear and disappear. My total keeps changing by that amount, then the total goes back up again the next time I log on.
