I am new at SL; only about a week now. I was startled to see the amounts of verbal and "physical" bullying going on around various worlds at SL.

I've had to search away from them to try to find peaceful places.

Here's a mild example: today I was at the "Help Island Public" area, which is often very active with conversation and energy. But there was a heated arguement going on there, and I thought I would lighten the place up with a dance. :O) I was not involved in the discussion, so I had fun using a script given to me just last night.

Well, it only took about 20 seconds for a person to come up to me and start a "Who do you think you are" sort of harrassment line with me. I tried to just laugh it off, but he decided to continue it and then to try to egg others on, which I think didn't work.

I just left in a sort of sad disgust. It was mild as I said, compared to the "caging" and pushing and other things I've seen happen to others at SL. But it did make me sad.

This is another one of the troll threads, is it not?

Hard to say, it does have that trollish scent - but if genuine maybe the OP should get off the help island and do their dancing in a club or somewhere more appropriate

Just, you know, a random guess. A shot in the dark, a vague idea thrown out there, an offering to Eris, just chaotic rambling.

There are all sorts of bullies in SL and RL alike.

The one's you mention are the easy ones. It's easy enough to expend a little energy and turn it all back making a fool of them instead....or there's always somewhere else to tp.

The one's that I least enjoy are those who own (read continue to pay and pay for) islands and confuse their ownership and money with power. But then those aren't too hard to deal with either.

Don't let it make you sad. Jus &%$* the miserable sods and feed em fishheads. ;o)

To the OP: I think the "Help Island" places are, unfortunately, attractors for some of the more disruptive elements of SL. In world, in the regular places people go, I almost never encounter any kind of bullies, troublemakers, or griefers. Most of SL is populated with nice folks just looking to do their thing and meet other nice folks. Visit some of the SL5B exhibits; visit the Rezzable sims; visit the Botanical Gardens; visit the Forum Hangout; visit any of the many wonderful and interesting things there are to see in SL and I think you'll find that the unsavories are the very small minority.

Thank you, Lillith.. I have not used that yet.. will it help with the ones with malicious scripts?

And what the hell is a "troll thread?"

Isn't there a moderator here? I just want to have a discussion about abusers at the SL worlds.

The main thing I want to know is why are they allowed the abusive scripts that "cage" and move avatars around and restrict them, etc. Why is that allowed? The incident today at Help Island was, as I said, very mild compared, but it just reminded me of the negative side I guess.

You know about moderators but not about trolling? Hmmm...

I think the answer to your question has been outlined above in enough detail.

Scripts of all kinds are allowed; certain uses of them are not.

Hanging out with friends and using a cager among yourselves in a joking or bantering manner is OK: SL is not a nanny state. Using a cager to harrass an unwilling resident is a Terms of Service violation and if it happens to you you can and should file an Abuse Report about it. If it happens a lot, you might want to invest in defensive weapons to deal with it yourself (MystiTool is a good start).

Oh do me a bloody favour :D I know people are bad at noticing this stuff here, but this is far too close to the other threads. Think phrasing.

How bored does one have to be to find being a public nuisance at a welcome area entertaining? Has zapping harpies in the northern Barrens of WoW lost its thrill for these guys? Now they are gonna hang out and toss nets on newbs while singing their 'happy happy joy joy' song. Sounds like total friggin sissyboy shit. "WHATSA MATTER GRIEFERS, MOMMY WONT LET YA SUCK ON HER TEAT NO MORE???" Pfffft.

Simply having a seat beats most griefer attacks.

Sure the having a seat works, but you'd have to know it was coming.
Some places you could probably expect that, but some places you so wouldn't
and then it's kinda hard to have a seat counting how high you are being orbited.

The places I hang out around are constantly attacked by griefers.

If I see a griefer, I usually make it my job to cage or orbit him/her long enough to get an AR report in.

Sometime, you just have to put matters in your own hands. xD

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.
