If this isn't an appropriate place to post this then you have my permission to shoot me The thought came to me after watching the 'Wonderland' program on BBC.. It got me thinking about relationships, broken hearts, friendships...etc...etc Anyone who is in a good relationship whether it is an SL one or a RL one... is very lucky in my humble opinion and more power to them. I'm probably going to sound like a complete 'plonker' for suggesting this..anyway, here goes! I live in Dublin, about 10 miles from the city center. There is a church in Whitefriar Street that has a shrine containing the 'remains' of St. Valentine. For the last couple of years, I've been paying it a visit every February 14th, saying a little prayer...etc both for myself and for people I've known that have had heartbreak in their lives ..etc. I just want to state that I'm NOT a religious nut by any stretch of the imagination....far from it.. I've gotten to know some great people since joining SL, both in-world and on the various forums. I thought it might be a nice idea, if anyone was interested, to put any names of people who would maybe like a 'special prayer' into an envelope and leave it at the St. Valentines Shrine, sort of like a petition for broken hearts, happy hearts...whatever state your heart is in.. I know this sounds slightly 'corny' but I just thought that it might be nice.... and please, anyone already 'itching' to write their sarcastic reply....please don't...

I think that's a wonderful sentiment, Pocket.

From: Sunni Jewell I think that's a wonderful sentiment, Pocket. Thank you Sunni.... it's just a sorta habit I got myself into over the last couple of years... and it's only about 10 minutes from where I live... Just thought it might make a change from 'teddy's, flowers and chocolates'...mind you....they're still quite nice to get..

ok the sentiment is fine, can't argue with that, but… "I just want to state that I'm NOT a religious nut by any stretch of the imagination....far from it.. " Every religious nut would say that, so never say it again, the line I've quoted that is, not the rest

Point taken Dekka...lol I just meant that I don't go round trying to convert everyone, I don't go to mass on a regular basis..etc...don't go to confession either, it would probably take way to long and I don't think anyone has that much time... It's just really an idea that I had floating around, and since myself and St. Valentine are practically neighbours, well...it could certainly do no harm... In fact, Whitefriar St. Church is where I made my singing debut at aged 2 1/2 years old.... that's just a pic of the actual shrine where St. Valentine's remains are housed.

In that case, Pocket, can you say a prayer for my friend Dan? He's going through a rough time right now. Oh, and my cousin Bill, too. Thanks.

I think this is a kindly and graceful gesture, Pocket. Would you add my mother-in-law Celestine to your list, please? She needs our prayers just now. Thank you very much.

Pocket, that is a wonderful thing to do. From a few of these threads there are quite a number of us who could use an extra prayer. There's no need to every apologize for thinking of others.

George Carlin says it best
02-04-2008 06:53
In one of his routines he puts it this way: From: someone You know who I pray to? Joe Pesci. Joe Pesci. Two reasons; first of all, I think he's a good actor. Okay. To me, that counts. Second; he looks like a guy who can get things done. Joe Pesci doesn't f**k around. Doesn't f**k around. In fact, Joe Pesci came through on a couple of things that God was having trouble with. For years I asked God to do something about my noisy neighbor with the barking dog. Joe Pesci straightened that c**k-s****r out with one visit. I noticed that of all the prayers I used to offer to God, and all the prayers that I now offer to Joe Pesci, are being answered at about the same 50 percent rate. Half the time I get what I want. Half the time I don't. Same as God 50-50. Same as the four leaf clover, the horse shoe, the rabbit's foot, and the wishing well. Same as the mojo man. Same as the voodoo lady who tells your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles. It's all the same; 50-50. So just pick your superstitions, sit back, make a wish and enjoy yourself. Are there any avatars in SL named Joe Pesci?

Actually, this sounds like a really sweet idea to me, and a genuinely lovely thing to do, too!
I'm pretty far from being a romantic but... I'd like to be included in that envelope, if you don't mind.

Are there any avatars in SL named Joe Pesci? LOL! I look at it very simplistically. Pocket's prayer is an example of kind thoughts. No matter to whom or what you are praying, it is the sincerity and kindness of thought that will have an effect. Kind thoughts lead to kind words and kind deeds (and vice versa). Kind thoughts, words and deeds lead to happiness (and vice versa). Also: Practice makes perfect. Practice anything and you will get better at doing it. Practice thinking kind thoughts and you will get better at it; practice thinking unkind thoughts and you will get better at that! It's up to you - you can practice what will lead to happiness (or vice versa). I know which choice I'd make - and it's the same one here as Pocket's.

'happy hearts'...
02-04-2008 08:58
Hi Pocket Pfeffer, When I read your post, I thought this was a very lovely and 'blessed' post. I woud like it very much if you put our names, 'Claire and Graphic' in a note, and place it there at the shrine, and put on the outside of the note: 'happy hearts'... It would mean so much to me, and I am sure Claire who has Irish blood in her beautiful English and Welsh veins would appreciate it too!
BTW...there is nothing corny about what you wrote, on the contrary...It is very appropriate and thoughtful...thank you! You really made my day!

From: Arturo Martinsyde In one of his routines he puts it this way: Are there any avatars in SL named Joe Pesci? Well Arturo, when they cannonise Mr. Pesci for his services to humanity, put his remains in a gilded box and make a shrine to him, maybe you'll offer to pay it a visit an say a prayer for us all And Graphic, Deira and Strangel, you're on the list. This is something I do for myself...and I thought it might be nice to include whoever else that might want to be thought of. Being sarcastic for the sake of it is just a little silly, but each to his own I suppose

I'm afraid George Carlin couldn't have known that you can only pray for other's welfare and not for yourself! But if you are unselfish and sincere, good will always follow. What goes round, comes round - so may love and happiness be returned to you.

Say a prayer?
02-04-2008 10:16
Reading your post this morning put a smile on my face. All I can add is that it is people like you who make the world a better place. This is such a simple act yet look at the impact -- it set the tone for today and made it beautiful for me to think someone cared enough to do this. Thank you!!!

Hi Pocket - I think it's a wonderful and sweet thing to do. No need for there to be any sarcasm at all from anyone. The offer came from your heart.
Can you add my friend Molly to the list? She's a wonderful person and deserves all the happiness St. Valentine can bring, after what she's had to deal with the last year. Or at least she deserves all the good thoughts, divine intervention, or whatever she or anyone else believes.
Thank you for doing this.

sob - your thoughts are so beautiful dear, ty for sharing... 'broken heart' stories can be incredibly complex, but the broken hearts behind them are true. saying that, we are 'all in this together' DURAN DURAN LYRICS "Save A Prayer" You saw me standing by the wall, Corner of a main street And the lights are flashing on your window sill All alone ain't much fun, So you're looking for the thrill And you know just what it takes and where to go Don't say a prayer for me now, Save it 'til the morning after No, don't say a prayer for me now, Save it 'til the morning after Feel the breeze deep on the inside, Look you down into your well If you can, you'll see the world in all his fire Take a chance (Like all dreamers can't find another way) You don't have to dream it all, just live a day Don't say a prayer for me now, Save it 'til the morning after No, don't say a prayer for me now, Save it 'til the morning after Save it 'til the morning after, Save it till the morning after Pretty looking road, Try to hold the rising floods that fill my skin Don't ask me why I'll keep my promise, Melt the ice And you wanted to dance so I asked you to dance But fear is in your soul Some people call it a one night stand But we can call it paradise Don't say a prayer for me now, Save it 'til the morning after No, don't say a prayer for me now, Save it 'til the morning after Save it 'til the morning after Save it 'til the morning after Save it 'til the morning after Save it 'til the morning after Save a prayer 'til the morning after (p.s. bleah lol actually in retrospect that's kindova cheesy song for the topic. but i suppose the line 'some call it a one-night stand' might mean more about how others misinterpret a couple's motives for joining together; sometimes for more valid reasons than some sort of 'puritanical pairing'... well in the end, it's all about 'joining,' whether metaphorical or not. have lotsa slipp'ry fun, regardless!!
