I'm fairly certain that everyone who uses teh internetz knows that checkboxes imply multiple selection, while radio buttons only allow one option at a time. Everyone.

Nope- hadn't noticed

Me :) she is me we are me- and there seem to be more than one me but all me..

(..and the people and the crayons and the button hooks ... what time is it  )

Six of one, half a dozen of ...

I tend to use 'me' in-world since I almost exclusively chat/speak in character and it follows that I should speak in the first person.

I tend to use 'my avatar' when writing to the forums because my in-world self uses a neurotic blend of 'Murkan' dialects that would test the patience of a linguistic saint let alone elicit reasonable responses from other forum correspondents. However I do occasionally write to lighter threads in character, in which case it's back to 'me' again - pore speech an all.

Luv th' way Murkans drop all them words 'n' letters ya jest don't need.

My avatar is him (or her, depending on who is logged in at the time). When I am in conversation with another avatar, the two ava's are referred to as him and her.

me is me. he is he. she is she.

Not to be the one who says you left of a selection, but you left off a selection, "in the first person"? ;) I don't "refer to my avatar" any more than I do my RL face or voice. When someone through SL compliments what I am wearing or my look or hair, I don't believe they are referring to the presentation they can't see!

So just like my voice over the phone, or RL makeup on my face; it's just the way I present myself to the virtual world. :)

Jig is me in my views, attitudes and actions. A little freer coz she can be anonymous. But she is still my avi and hasnt the responsibilities and commitments of my reality. In sl I commit to my partner as Jig and I guess as me also. But my behaviour would hurt him if we were in real. Interesting question. It's funny she has my typing skills and common faults of narcissism and ego. Also my addictive personality (recovering, in real). Jig "plays herself" as me.

Yes I thought about that but it felt exclusive to the RL me right away. ;) Like making the RL "me" third person as people who refer to "their typist"?

While among most of my SL friends/peers there is no separation really...IE, not a separate incarnation. (And some of those I do know have played in MMORGs as well as using SL.)

My player gets pissed when I do that (I think it's envious, poor thing) so I try and avoid it.

No, really, I actually hadn't thought of *that* option.

I choose "me" in the poll.

However, more often than not I refer to him by his name "Tex". I never refer to myself in the third person in RL and find it a bit annoying when others do. For some reason refering to my av as Tex seems perfectly normal.

I take a simple view of this.

If I am speaking (as on these forums) as Conifer then I talk about myself as me (or sometimes 'MEEE' because I'm a bit of an attention seeker:D!)

If I'm elsewhere and speaking from an RL viewpoint, I talk about 'my avatar'.

Most of the time it's "I" but if I need to distinguish between RL and SL, I'll use proper names: "Poor Oryx hasn't been out exploring in ages..." if I'm talking to someone in RL about SL.

After seeing a few references to "my guy" or "my toon", I wonder... how do people refer to their avatar?

Edit: please note that this IS multiple selection - you can pick more than one.

I answered the poll with 2 choices 'Me' or 'My avatar' but, occasionally, I will call her Treasure, if speaking to someone else. Last night was trying to get dolled up for Chinese New Year; Treasure just doesn't have the body for a kimono, she's too chunky, voluptuous, lush, (notice the 3rd person reference) finally gave up when the obi kept disappearing into 'my' waistline and didn't want to do a big edit appearance. lol Real multiple personality here. Need to make a slender, willowy alt for these affairs. :)

Usually "me," though sometimes "My Avatar" or by name, if I need to make a distinction.

Example: "I checked out the Blake Sea today" - My avatar did that, of course, not me, but she is my means in which I can do that.
