Alt Account

OK- I am convinced - I am setting up an alternate...so I run thru the whole thing - have a nice name all picked out and registered - I am now on the page where it asks if Basic or Premium - how do I tell it is me? And to just register it as an alt??? Help please.

You don't. Alts are considered independent accounts and LL is no longer charging the $9.95 fee.

So what about the extra 512 I could p/u with out affecting tier? NO longer? - Cause I was planning on a Group thing - and if the alt is free than she wont have land ownership rights and thus cannot donate tier...

No, you'd have to pay for another Premium account to get the additional 512m tier allowance. As far as I know, that's always been the case. People add Basic alts to their land groups so there's no danger of the group being dissolved somewhere down the line and the group land being lost as a result.

Oh, but you do still get the 10% tier-free holding bonus if the land is group owned, even if only one of you is Premium.

Cool on the 10% thing - now he is something else - I went ahead and created the alt - then I waited patiently....and waited.... and no new log on info... checked the spam folder - checked the name - nothing... what do I do? It's been such a long time since I made my regular accoutn I don't recall if takes this long...

What new login info are you waiting for? Just go ahead and login using the new name and password.

^^They're supposed to send you a confirmation email.

Did you check your spam filter? If it's not in there, and you're Premium, you can log into the Support Portal and submit a ticket on behalf of your alt...the 'Technical Issue' ticket type will pop up another window which asks whether it's about an alt.

You must provide Linden Lab with real information, even if it is just an alt. They are cracking down on and temporarily disabling alts with fictitious information. I believe this is in part due to the new VAT thing they are implementing. Log into your name that is disabled on the main page, click the support button (regardless of what it says), click the link that says "log in with your avatar name", click on the submit a ticket link, fill out the ticket drop downs and blank spaces, you will want to select one that has the word SPECIAL in it, then select "my account has been shut off and I don't know why", and fill in all other info.

In the body section of the ticket, explain that your name was disabled and you think it might be because you put in the wrong information by accident. Give them your name, address, phone number, zip code, state, and country. You may have to answer the security question for them in the ticket. Make sure the email associated with the ticket is valid and working.

Click Finish/Send

I was thinking of creating an alt myself...but after going through the whole process found no place to pay the $9.95, so I canceled it. So I then logged onto the support pages and read the ALT FAQ which states that you still have to pay the $9.95:

"Your first Basic account is free. We charge a small fee, US$9.95, for the creation of each additional Basic account as a way to recoup some of the cost of maintaining the account for you. This is explained further in section 1 of the billing policies, which can be accessed through the link on the right side of your account page. (Note that in the billing policies, "Access Account" means Basic account and a "Subscription Account" means a Premium account.)"

Then it goes on to say:

"When we find people with accounts that have not been paid for and are in violation of our policies, we may, at our discretion and in alignment with our Terms of Service, take any or all of the following actions:

-Prevent them from creating additional accounts
-Close some or all of their accounts until payment is made
-Close all of their accounts permanently

So, we know no system is perfect. If you have legitimate reasons for creating multiple accounts but have been unable to do so:

-Residents with a Basic account should go to Help Island and talk to someone there.
-If you have a Premium account, you can submit a support ticket through the Solution Finder."

So, I'm confused...is LL just not updating their info on the support pages?

Giz, there is sadly a lot of obsolete information in-world still.
The upshot is, LL are not at present collecting their 9.95$. However, with using real email addresses and maybe payment info, you are covered if at some later stage LL decide to 'catch up'.

Amarinthim, did you succeed in opening a ticket?. Genku suggested logging into the website with your non-working alt name. When I had this very situation I went back to my main, logged in from there and explained in the ticket my main and alts names and the situation, which they acted on. I guess this confirms to LL that avie B is an alt of avie A but then, I used the same email and cc anyway

I was able to make the support ticket - I included my name and the alt name...now just waiting for a response...how long will that take do you suppose, cause nothing yet from last night...

And yes, of course I used my real information- can't imagine why I wouldn't - oh in case it makes any difference I haven't seen any age verification questions in either the new one at set up or my old one.

Oops -take the last back- there is an email saying:

A brand new newbie... and off the island

And since I had all these nice copyable thisses and thatsses...she gets a head start! She even helped a fellow newbie (real one as opposed to an alt) to find nice freebies!) This morning I bought her a Sexy Walk - now she needs nice free hair - any one seen good hair for free?

Go to the Free Dove. In their hair corner is lots of free Calla hair in different lengths that I absolutely love, some other hair (I think) and vouchers for free hair from some other hair designers. However, there was one designer's voucher there that is actually no longer valid. After going through the time to pick out hair in her shop, when I tried to redeem it her profile said she was no longer offering free hair. I don't remember who it was, so before you spend al ot of time picking out hair, check the profile of the store owner to be sure it is still available.

Free Dove has lots of free skins and shapes, and clothes too. It's all nice stuff, no junk. You can set up your alt with freebies very nicely there!

Have fun with your new alt, and be careful. They get expensive fast when they start demanding custom skins, new clothes etc!
