Which tutorial are you having a problem with the -loginuri? Basically, when you use a viewer, such as the SL viewer, it connects, by default, to the SL grid. If you wish it to connect to another grid, or standalone sim, then you can tell it to do that by using -loginuri.
That part I haven't used, I don't truly just get it I guess or where to put it in, when I read it in tutorials.
I use local, it's on hard drive.
You also mentioned with my static ip if I wanted I could invite friends over, would they need the software too to login where I am?
How would they connect? would they just type it in somewhere the static ip address like a website in your example?
Not that I want to do that at this moment because I can login to SL when I want to hang out with friends, etc.
I love my friends but there is something nice about just wanting to create by your lonesome without the constant ping, ping of a im but I may want few friends over in future.
Mostly I will be using the stand alone to practice things like animation poses, textures, skins, other creative projects like I would in SL betagrid without having to deal with LL's stuff and enjoying nice quiet place without spending tons on 4 private islands in SL or uploads.
Because I can easily go through 5,000 to 10,000L just on texture uploads in very productive experimental month and truthfully it is all adding up and I can't afford to do that and save up for new computer and buy groceries and pay the electric, dsl company too.
I am not tech savvy nor programmer but all this stuff has gotten me curious how the more complex stuff works, not sure if I can figure it out though but I am very curious.
Another issue is there certain things inside stand alone that I don't know how they work or how to get to work.
Top things is about Ruth, Poses, Inventory management right now for me
Why doesn't the animations or poses inventory that I got with stand alone not work?
How can I change or hack the ruth appearance?
What about the plants built in is there a way to hack or change this part of the viewer or is there possible ways to hack the add on features safely or just the graphic aspect?
Does the media or audio work in same ways in SL in stand alone?
The more complex questions, not sure if you have answers for but I throw them out maybe someone knows.
What features won't work unless you're a programmer?
Do you have any experience with stand alone as is, what limits have you found?
What limits does someone have with it if they don't know how to program new special features but wants them. How would one go about it?
What happens if I break the client? Will I break the internet if I hack the client as newbie?
How much of the viewer is changeable without damaging it?
Is there ways to have something like new prim shapes, new UV choices, Puppeteer program or new forms of animations not available in SL in Stand alone sims?
