Well, ok, I admit I work too much and never play. And I've really no idea where to go to just chill and relax, that isnt filled with flashing headache-inducing lights. I like calm soothing places.. But my favorite one has long since went down the drain and is now up for lease.

Where do ya'll go to chill, and meet new friends?

I'd put Eternal Creations at the top of the list. It's a Christian sim. If you can join a Christian group (their group) it offers fantastic camping (12L/hour). I won't join their group because I am Jewish. I do use their sandbox where people actually talk and I like their club, Club Eternal. You can dance without using the camping pads and there are usually people who own/run things around and they talk. They also have free windsurfing and a big swimming area.

Second on my list is Gomorra (Ilha Bella Gomorra) and yes there is also a Sodom but it is off limits. Gomorra is Brasilian and Portguese is the lingua franca. It also has a first rate campatorium but what makes it first rate is there is just plain a lot of other stuff to do. There's no sandbox here, but there are reasonably priced stores, a trampoline, a water slide and at certain times of the day dancing.

I think my taste in hangouts runs toward the noisey. One of the advantages of hanging out at Gomorra was taht I now have "friends" who are Brasilian and find myself doing a lot of dancing at Brasilian clubs and touring a lot of Portuguese speaking sims. One day I am going to have to learn that language.

TPZion in daylight is wonderful. Stay out of the club if it is not your thing. There is a race track to play with your vehicles, an amusement park, a lot of beach and swimmable warm water.

when I decide it it time to take a break in SL, and chill and relax, I log out :)

I don't find any of the places (hangouts, clubs, bars, etc) fun or relaxing
either you get ignored, or people do nothing other than gestures and ascii spam *ugh*

so when I feel like some me time, and want to relax, I make myself a cup of coffee, and go outside on the deck and just sit and listen to the world around me
(if it is a day that the temps are hitting 110+ I will not stay out long, but it is still nice to just sit and listen to the world around me

no TV, no PC, no distractions, just me and my own thoughts.

(then if I am still wanting me time, I might turn on the TV or watch a movie)

For those of you who love Botanicals at Straylight, the designer who runs that shop has an even more spectacular forest build that is currently populated with works by an amazing, award-winning artist. Pic here: http://sl2rllove.blogspot.com/2008/09/romantic-and-beautiful-sl-getaway.html

Bettina Tizzy has kindly offered to host several sculptures by Glyph Graves at her home sim ChaKryn Forest (created by Andrek Lowell).

They have been scattered around this beautiful sim ... above and below water in the valleys and in the hills. You should start here http://slurl.com/secondlife/Chakryn/138/198/22

I've recently started hanging out at Cafe Trivia on Pimuche. I have found it to be friendly and laid back, but never crowded. You do have to put up with a constant stream of trivia questions scrolling up the screen, but I find the trivia a useful icebreaker if I am feeling a bit shy. There are a few camping stools, if that's your thing, but no bots. There is also a small dancefloor, a pool and the odd bit of silliness. I can't tell you what the music is like as I never switch it on except at home.

I go to my own skybox and potter about, listening to music (my choice of stream) building a bit up on the roof, tweaking the odd wall prim into line, or down to the beach below me and sit on the bench by the ocean and stroke my Pillow Talk cat while i watch the sparkles on the water or the sunset... that always soothes me down.

Second choice is the Forum Hangout.

So are we allowed to mention the Forum Cartel Hangout in this thread or will that still get certain panties in a knot? :D
I go to the hangout - it's never empty for long. Of course, to meet people you could climb on the catapult that's there and fire yourself into one of the surrounding sims. No guarantee what sort of reception you'll get though.

I usually don't connect calm and soothing with meeting new people. When I'm into getting attention, I'll hangout at NCI Kuula or tour the welcome areas to look for any new faces in the crowds or say "hi" to the old ones. (^_^)

While I don't go often. There's usually a relaxed group of chatters at the NCI beach in Fisherman's Cove. (^_^)

For simply a calm experience... I still enjoy walking Linden roads. And really walking at that. The slow pace is a wonderful way to relax and see new things. Just remember to jump over simlines... Some of the roads were made thin and the phys-break between sims may lead you to discovering the underside and possibly get trapped down there. (^_^)y

The Open Latte Coffee Shop is good if you like literate people. Just this morning I had a lovely long winded conversation with a Dom, a fairy and a bookshelf on the pluses and minuses of stoicism. It was very stimulating. Unfortunately, I had to leave early because I had a date with a Brazilian...

That was lovely, too.

But you won't find him in Search.

The Forum Hangout is my first choice for just hanging and chatting with folks. I've only been to Madhu's for parties, but the environment definitely is one that would be relaxing and good for just chillin with friends.

The last one will always depend on the day of the week and the mood of the folks - some find that RA can get too intense sometimes for them.

Thanks for naming my place. :D I haven't been in-world much lately but nevertheless people do pop into the cafe often, at all times of day, and there seems to be a good-sized group of regulars who visit often. It is a dream of mine that the cafe be a place where you have a good shot of meeting interesting folks to talk to any time of day, so I would be honored and happy if people use it that way.

Otherwise, I heartily endorse the Cartel hangout. I know I've said this a million times, but if you drop in and no one is there, just give it a few minutes. Lots of folks use the HUD that tells you who is there, and will drop by if they see a name pop up.

I need to go back there...I enjoyed the one time I went and the conversation was most enjoyable.

Except for people I meet in the course of doing my general activities in SL, I don't go out looking to meet new people. So that eliminates the "meet and greet" type of places for me.

For relaxing, I also tend to spend time in our home. There are many relaxing areas I enjoy just stretching out, setting the world to midnight, turning our Internet radio to easy listening or classical music and just...relax.

When my partner and I want to go someplace to dance and relax at the same time without any "Hoos" or "Howlz" we head to the Avilion Ballroom. Definitely our favorite dance venue.

Other relaxing places I've found:

*Lucrezia Lamont's Cho no Chashitsu (Butterfly Tea House) - Just sitting iniside the tea house and listening to the ambiance is sooo calming

*Tatsumi no machi - An amazing recreation of the Japanese Heian era Palace and gardens of Hikaru Genji. Includes the traditional hot springs in a snowy area - right next to the gift shop that offers complimentary Yukatas to wrap up in after that refreshing dip in the springs.

*If I want to wander around a bit more, I really enjoy the Gion sim. It also includes a treasure hunt (the tp in point has signs with more information) and a lot of little areas to hide away and relax.

*Mitsuba Tea House and the surrounding outside areas (are we seeing that Japanese-themed areas are relaxing for me?)

Ooo.. Czari - I'm soothed just reading your post! =D yours are straight up my alley, lol. I don't have sound but I'm still going to make time and check those places out.

Everyone seems to have some pretty good ideas.

I like to go swimming. I see places in a different way from in the water. Floating while watching a sunset seems very "real" and is relaxing. Ahh...

Turtle Island is a calming build. Lots of mountains and woods.

Where is this Forum Cartel?? SLURL please??
