I guess I didnt' really need to mute them but its annoying when you're trying to fix your shoes and someone is raggin on you. The long story is that I'm trhying to find a place to set home to and that just seems to be the infohubs. I've been living in a park and a couple other places but it's more steps to find a landmark and go there when I just want to leave a place fast. Don't even get me started about trying to use a sandbox. Maybe I'll rent but I haven't even found a walk yet much less kid OK rentals.

If you send a *muted* person a note or an object doesnt it automatically decline the object. I guess I busted my own theory, why would I accept anything from some one I muted?

A lot of new users don't KNOW they've muted you. They might visit your store, and rather than declining the notecard from the vendor, they might hit "mute".. after that, They might be in your store, paying money into your vendors, and then they become upset when you appear never to send them what they've paid for. So they IM you to complain.. but you appear never to respond to their complaints.

I've been muted by friends new to SL by accident before. It really is way too easy to mute by accident - as Winter says, you get a notecard and hit "Mute" thinking it means "no thanks, I don't need the card" and of course it mutes the person who sent it. Even a pop-up box saying "You have now muted xxx and they will not be able to hear you or receive IMs from you" would be useful so that newbies realise what's happened.

Love the idea of holding up a sign saying "Hello, you've muted me!" is a good idea when it's been done accidentally.

Actually, in some of the international viewers, I think the "mute" button actually says "ignore"

Funny thing happened in Hanja today... I joked about muting one of my friends... The whole crowd was like (O_O) "You must have said something bad dude! She's actually talking about muting you! You better apologize!" .... LOL! (^_^)y

If they know you have them muted, they'll just escalate to griefer tactics to make a nuisance of themselves.

This is true actually. My dear, dear ex went around at a wedding pushing me when it was clear that I had him on ignore. He was even worse, apparently, in what he was saying and doing after he saw I went to dance with Ciaran. I didn't see cos I was ignoring him and much happier for it!

It would be good to give more information to people who have muted others- because this does seem to happen a lot by accident.

That's why I voted for Winter's JIRA thinger (which is still unassigned months and months along) http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1563
