I'm getting more questions now that I'm finally spending time here. When you mute someone or they mute you do they or you k now it? If they try to keep messagint you do they get a "hey, Variables done listening to your stuff" type thing?

I agree it would be good to know if they muted you... also to see a list of people that have muted you. I think it would be best cause I have had friends that have muted me by accident and if i saw a list of people that muted me... I could tell them it happened LOL

I had someone accidentally mute me right in the middle of a conversation.. a person who was new to SL. We ended up having a completely silly and horrifying conversation as I realized that he had muted me. Apparently they can still see you typing but nothing comes up in chat. I was almost about to write a message in Photoshop, upload it, and stick it on a prim for him to see. Thankfully he managed to figure it out before I did that.

No, but they should. Feels a lot better when they know you've taken them out.

I rather enjoy telling them so. I give a very curt "I muted you" and turn away.

Sometimes just telling someone that you're going to mute them is enough to get them to shut up. Then you don't have to bother actually muting them!

I muted them and forget them. If I have to mute someone, then really, I don't care what they think or say.

Ive had friends accidentally mute me and we spent quite a comical time trying to communicate with each other.
However i've had enemies selectively mute me (which i find hilarious) basically they mute me until they can think of something nasty to say to me and then they un mute me for those brief seconds to shoot me down and scream "muted" again. hahaha I don't usually mute people unless they're simply just too intolerable to me at that moment..if I do mute them i almost always un mute them...eventually..once ive cooled off(hoping they blast me again with something ugly they've thought up )That being said.. a message stating "Your message cannot be sent because this resident has muted you" would be nice..in those unfortunate cases a friend accidentally hits mute on the friends list. ~Lana Tomba |

If I mute someone, that person pushed really hard to insult and/or annoy me. I will let them know that I muted them and right after that I stop caring.

If someone has ignored me, generally I am to the point where it is a blessed relief that they have ignored me and they're not hitting me with their deluded nonsense any more. Or expecting me to believe a bunch of lies. Or care that they muted me.
I prefer to deal with adults not children. I think if the facility to know you'd been muted existed it would only cause MORE drama and lord knows there's more than enough attention seekers around as it is. _____________________

I have to agree with that..often not knowing..that i've been muted puts out my fuse alot quicker than knowing..I think knowing might lead to me going to where they are to say oh yea? with a sign on my head telling them everything i want to say before a new sign is attached saying "so there I got the last word" ~Lana Tomba |

I called her out - she muted me. THEN I started getting all these messages about "She's so sad she lost a friend, can't you two make it up?" etc. I just said well - if she meant that she could IM me. Of course not. It wasn't going to generate her sympathy and hugs and "oh no you really must have cared, poor you". MEH. _____________________

I'd rather not have people know I muted them. Sometimes it is not because I don't want to see their chat, I just don't want to hear their gesture sounds as it ruins the enjoyment of music I am listening too like in a club so I mute them and enable See Muted Text to still acknowledge anything they might have to say.
One amusing thing I did once was change my personal group tag to (Muted). Confused the hell out of a lot of people I know. ![]() |

I can't see a single one of the replies in this thread. You're all muted.
Except Dagmar's. The (muted) idea is genius. OK. In all seriousness, I don't mute people here, and I only have in SL when they are playing a bunch of sounds or wooting and howlzing to the point where it takes away from the fun I'm having in the club or wherever. If I feel that they are being purposely disruptive for the sake of getting attention, then I'd just as soon ute them and get it over with. Hmmm...I bet there are more than a couple people who can't see this post. Let me go over my mental list... _____________________

Once I muted an object interrupting a musical performance but aside from that I've never had need of it. I don't know if I've been muted by others. It must be something not needed by those in my age category (over 100).
Sometimes I have Sounds and UI noises turned off, though. _____________________

If they know you have them muted, they'll just escalate to griefer tactics to make a nuisance of themselves.

I think anyone who runs a business and has had a customer accidentally mute them would agree that a simple "X has you muted" message when you try to IM someone would be a welcome feature. It's truly one of the most frustrating things that can happen, mainly because it can take days to figure out what the problem is.
