When I first joined SL, I was living at a different address than I live at now. Is there a way to change the address they have on file?
I looked under the account stuff, and could not find anything for address, only email, and cc or payment method
I never thought of it till now as I was looking at the different links they have there, one of them being account statements, which has my old address on it.

From: Brenda Connolly Maybe a phone call? and have them screw everything up? was hoping for a simple, oh it is this link, kind of answer heh (I have only ever called LL once on the phone and that was a disaster, so.. that would be the last resort) I guess the address really has no bearing, unless I were having a cheque sent, which I don't, my L's stay in game to be converted to cover the tier

Maybe changing the payment information is all that's needed (I can't remember but a card has to be tied to an address). Beyond that I've no clue.

If you figure it out, let me know!
I've been round and round on this with all kinds of LL "help" over months. My address is still the one I lived at 3 years ago. My credit card won't validate because of it, so they luck out and don't get any extra dough from me lol.

Start a jira issue. I'd vote for it.

Stay tuned As for the ticket idea, nah, would rather have a way that I can just go in and change it myself. Edited to add, could not find it anywhere on the JIRA, can not add at this time, as it says it is going through maintenance, and to not add new ones.

its top secret stuff! the number of people that initially register with names like 'joe blow' must be astounding. it would be nice if ll let people update their details. im sure they have some 'security' reason for forbidding it, but even my bank and the federal tax office will let me update my details online.

Somewhere along the line, my RL name got misspelled. It was probably a simple typo on my part when I was entering the information.. and I only noticed the discrepancy when I was going through the PDF versions of USD transaction history.. in preparing my taxes.
Honestly, LL is the only company I have ever seen, that won't even allow me to view the information I have on file with them... much less change it.
I also no longer live at the address I did when I signed up. Nor do I still have the same phone number.
I was able to get the information changed by contacting Billing Support live help. I guess that's a solution for people who have premium accounts.
I'm sure LL has some sort of an excuse why they can't trust me with my own information.

From: Winter Ventura I'm sure LL has some sort of an excuse why they can't trust me with my own information. Hanlon's razor suggests otherwise. Is there, perchance, already a web jira open to request implementing that feature? Would it make sense to open one?

I've gone the ticket route to no avail. JIRA is probably the only way at this point.

I believe a mailing address is not required at signup anymore, this could be why you can't go in and edit it.
However, I agree that we should be able to view and edit our own contact information whether it is required or not.

I'm confused, where are you seeing an old address? I don't see an address listed anywhere in my account (other than country of residence which comes from CC verification IIRC)

when you initially signed up you would have been asked for this info. somebody... maybe adz childs... detailed a way to fool the website into allowing you to see the info you signed up with. might be interesting to try that. (also shows name, which I need to change as well, since I have gotten married since signing up with LL and changed my name)

(also shows name, which I need to change as well, since I have gotten married since signing up with LL and changed my name) huh, sure enough, it's my old address, I think they'd have a little trouble trying to bill me there lol, it's only about 600mi away in another state. for reference, under US law, they have to provide both what information they have for you and the method by which you can correct it (and or dispute it). From: Personal Information Protection Act paragraph 23 (1) Subject to subsections (2) to (5), on request of an individual, an organization must provide the individual with the following:
(a) the individual's personal information under the control of the organization;
(b) information about the ways in which the personal information referred to in paragraph (a) has been and is being used by the organization;
(c) the names of the individuals and organizations to whom the personal information referred to in paragraph (a) has been disclosed by the organization.
Paragraph 24 (1) An individual may request an organization to correct an error or omission in the personal information that is
(a) about the individual, and
(b) under the control of the organization.
(2) If an organization is satisfied on reasonable grounds that a request made under subsection (1) should be implemented, the organization must
(a) correct the personal information as soon as reasonably possible, and
(b) send the corrected personal information to each organization to which the personal information was disclosed by the organization during the year before the date the correction was made.
(3) If no correction is made under subsection (2), the organization must annotate the personal information under its control with the correction that was requested but not made.
(4) When an organization is notified under subsection (2) of a correction of personal information, the organization must correct the personal information under its control.

My SL funding, including tier, comes from my CC. Reading of your experiences makes me think that it would be a good idea to load up my USD account with a few weeks or even months of tier, just in case I have an extended period of grief trying to get this sorted out with LL

Live chat
03-29-2009 06:22
I decided to ask in live chat support as I will be changing addresses in the future myself and this was the response. I put X's in for the names of the support as I am not sure of the TOS for listing the names. XXXXXXX: Your Linden helper may be helping other residents. In the meantime, please ask a question or explain what the issue is. Belle_Loll: I am moving and noticed my account statements has my old address. Where do I go to change it to my new address? Thank you XXXXXXX: good morning belle, thanks for contacting support. you may do this from the My Account page and click Update Billing Information Belle_Loll: okay thank you...will this wipe out all my old billing information? XXXXXXX: yes, please review the options on that page Belle_Loll: OK..went there but there is no place to change my adress? I can only change my billing info and since I use PayPal it does not ask for an address. Belle_Loll: The address listed in my accounts statement is not even my current address..it is from when I signed up in 2006. There actually seems to be no place one can change an address from when originally joining SL. XXXXXXX: You can only change your address when you delete and update your credit card information Belle_Loll: I have done that before...but my account statement still shows my original address? XXXXXX: one moment while i transfer you to a member of our concierge team System Message: Please wait while chat is transferring ... System Message: You are now transfered to XXXXX. XXXXX: Hiya Belle Belle_Loll: Hello XXXXX..as you can see I am trying to update to a new address and can find no place to do so XXXXX: There is actually no place on the site that you can change the address I'm afraid. But we can manually change it for you. Belle_Loll: How do I do that? I am moving next week and trying to find a way to change my address on file XXXXX: ok, we'll need a ticket from you, with some form of ID with the new address... something with your name & address on it. Then we can use that to update the address & verification. Belle_Loll: You mean like attach a copy of a credit card or utility bill? XXXXX: utility bill is good, credit card too (just don't forget to not disclose the credit card info) Belle_Loll: Since it still shows my original address and I have moved since then once...does it even matter if I update my address? As long as all my billing info is correct? Belle_Loll: I guess I just don't understand why I have to prove a change of address when I didn't even have to do that to sign up originally XXXXX: Not strictly no. There wouldn't be a need for a rush to get it updated. XXXXX: We can't manually update the address without referencing it to some form of ID... there to also protect the account holder too. ---------------------------- So I am just as confused as before the chat and my conclusion is not to worry about it as LL does not seem to care as long as your billing info (credit card or PayPal) is current.
