I love my Sirena scripted hair. She's done such a wonderful job with it, however the built in facelight concerns me. I've seen so many who get so pissed about it, and although it doesn't look bad to me, I don't want to be the avatar of disdain in any room.
Is there a way to turn it off? When I right click the hair, I see this huge glowing circle around me and geez! I don't wanna be hated on!

I'm appalled that someone would build light into hair.

I haven't looked at the Sirena hair contents folder, but I'd like to turn that facelight off too. I wear a fliptag which has a facelight included, so one night when I was wearing my Sirena hair I was apparently lit up like a Christmas tree and didn't realize it. The excess wasn't showing up on my screen but a friend took a picture--I was radioactive!

I think the one I have has an option to turn it on and off. There should be a notecard with it that tells how. (I'm thinking /2 light off /2 light on, but not sure about the channel)

Hehe..
I looked in the folder and didn't see anything pertaining to the facelight. The hair is no modify so I'm guessing that it can't be turned off. Rawrrrr I love that hair so much, it's just gawjus! But I walked my glowing butt into a dark room and there were exclamations in foreign languages that I couldn't understand. I cringed knowing that this had something to do with my facelight.
Edit: Oh thank you Darien! I'll give that a try.

If it's scripted, great.
If it's not, but it's copy/mod (like most hair), then... 1. copy the hair and wear the copy. 2, Select the hair, and check Edit Linked Parts 3. Select the light prim, and either 3a. Go to the Features tab of the edit menu and uncheck Light, or 3b. unlink the light prim, and delete it.

From: Osprey Therian I'm appalled that someone would build light into hair. I've come across two people recently where every single prim in their hair was set as a light .

Darien is correct! From Natalia's blog: From: someone All the new Sirena Hairstyles now come with built-in Face Lighting! And if you dont like the effect, you can just turn Face Lighting OFF by Chat command: "/2 light off". To turn it back ON, just say "/2 light on". (All these instructions are in the included Notecard if you ever need them ) http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/2007/07/day-302-sirena-3-women1-mens-hairstyles.html

I've seen it a lot lately.. A club will be more-or-less well lit with some house lights. One person comes in and suddenly the whole place goes dark except for a nuclear halo around that one person.
They either don't notice that they're doing this or they don't care, though.

From: Osprey Therian I'm appalled that someone would build light into hair. I don't like it either. I just don't see the advantage to having lights built into the hair, and I have to wonder how many people wear it and don't even know the added lights are there. Even if you turn it off you will still have the extra prims (assuming they use lighted spheres like most face lights) hanging out in front of you, if the hair is no mod and you can't detach them.

yes I don't use facelights, but I appreciate the hair people trying to save their customers that do a valuable attachment point. As long as it can be turned off, I don't see much harm.

From: Nimue Jewell I have to wonder how many people wear it and don't even know the added lights are there. Many people don't even seem to know how many lights they actually have attached even when they know they have a facelight on. Two weeks back I was adjusting the lights in my house so I had the light infodisplay on when a friend tp'ed over and I commented on her being a lighthog (jokingly) since I counted 5 lights on her. She insisted she was only wearing 2 (her MystiTool Implant and one she made herself). "Inspecting" the prims 3 lights came from the MystiTool Implant (she had wrongly assumed it was just one light), one from the custom one she made and one in her hair she didn't know about.

I had this hair too. Took me a bit to figure out that the face light was from the hair then turned it off. Thank goodness I was able to turn it off.

I used to use a face light, but ever since I changed my environmental settings for the custom sky, lighting effects thing, I see things nicely, and no need for facelights (seems with my new setting a facelight has no effect anyway LOL) works for me!

Yayyy woohoo! So I can keep my favorite hair and buy even more hair from Sirena then. If I can turn it off, then that's all I need to know. I'll reserve the facelights for pictures.
Thank you kind peoples.

As long as it can be turned off, I don't see much harm. I use one occasionally, but ditto Dariens comment. Anything to save a valuable attachment spot. I DO think the default state should be OFF instead of on if they're going to make hair like this. I love a few of Sirenas hairs, but I dont mess with the facelight on them... it's high intensity and high radius and will piss people off. I always turn it off and usually just delete the script from the light prims too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the max number of local lights we can see six? Therefore if I'm in a moodily lit room full of 6 candles, and Jane Doe with 3 hairlights comes in, then I can only see 3 candles plus Jane?

The first Sirena hair I purchased was for our Partnering Ceremony. Held outside in the gardens of a Victorian Castle. We asked the guests to turn the world to midnight to get the full effect of the little luminaries we had placed as well as the candle-lighting under the arbor. I LOVED that the hair lit my face up...it made me look very luminous and my Partner and I could be seen well in the midnight light. Interestingly, people who took photos of us during the ceremony with their local lighting turned off are basically very dark photos where you can't really see anything. Those who had local lighting turned on produced very pretty photos. I had never heard of face lights until I purchased that hair and since it seems to irk so many people, I leave it off for the most part now. But there are times, like the above, that it DOES come in very handy.

Even though they are scripted, I deleted all of the light prims anyway, four less active listen scripts. But I did save the originals, just in case.

Someone's atrociously bright face light caused me to turn off local lighting once. As she danced, with each spin the light would be blocked and go dark, then back on, basically causing a strobe effect that was surprisingly headache inducing.

Lol sorry about the facelights
05-02-2008 17:37
As Darien mentioned, you can turn off the facelights on all Sirena hairs by saying "/2 light off" ("/2 light on" turns them back on). (But I really should do a better job with signs in the store...although there are way too many signs in the store already ;P) Lol I know this is a very personal subject. Some people love it, some hate it. I tried to make it an option. I thought the extra prims would be worth the convenience for most residents. All Sirena hairs are Mod/Copy (so the facelights can be repositioned or adjusted as needed). Just press Ctrl-Alt-T to see transparent objects, then you can move them around or change the intensity Just to clarify, there are 2 types of facelights on the Sirena hairs: The majority of hairs have only 1 facelight in front (used to reduce the shadows on the face). Many of the newer hairs with flexi all around use 4 lights (to minimize the shadow between the fixed and flexi parts of the hair). The facelights do make a HUGE diff when it comes to taking pictures. It also saves an attachment spot. And I think they helps new residents the most, the ones least familiar with prim attachments. I do apologize if facelights are not your fav thing. I have asked my brother to help me make a central script to reduce the listening. Hopefully, the lights are just a nice option if you like them.
