From: Annabelle Babii see below: Right, but do you plan on defaulting? Or maybe you have the most unique name in the world that makes you so identifiable in RL that this is a big concern? Seriously, a name and email means nothing in todays world. If you tag on a home address to that then it's a different story. I have supplied my RL info, and I'm not worried as I wont default, and if I did they'd get their money from my credit card. being reported to LL would do what exactly? nadda! Oh i know, it's another "Conspiracy theory?"

From: Theo Kline Oh i know, it's another "Conspiracy theory?" Yup. It astounds me all the uproar over age verification, and now people are willing to PAY to give their RL info away. And no, I don't plan on defaulting, but I also don't trust there to not be a glitch that makes it appear I did. I really don't want some gridwaide announcement or some website showing: Annabelle Babii, RL name Jessica Linden* has defaulted on $100L! *not probably my RL name

I've had many talks with the people who run the company. I honestly think its just used as a scare tactic.

I was curious and tried it out as a merchant. The people I met with Meta were a pleasure to work with, but almost every sale I had at their neko fair was cash.

From: Theo Kline In the sign-up process they ask about your SL. Business, job, etc. They then manually verify it. If they feel there is little risk you will be issued a basic account(5,000L limit). If you do not, you can then get a 10,000L limit gold card with a RL credit/debit card on file with them. They are a business in RL, and verify that your RL card is active. They also have a merchant account with a 25,000L limit (extendable to 40K if need be). You can use the card to make purchases at stores that take the metacard or you can go to the metacard sim or any merchant store that has one of their ATM machines and take a 'cash advance' against your balance. I've been using their card for a while now and have had no complaints. made cash advances to buy some land, and then paid the balance off at the end of the billing cycle to avoid finance fees(as I do in RL with my CC). As a security for me, I contacted my RL card's bank and ANY charge from this company would have to be approved by me. So I look at it, I have no risk in it at all. I know better then to use the 'savings account' they offer. I still don't get it. Your virtual credit card is backed up by. . .a RL credit card. Why not cut the middle man and just borrow money from the RL credit card? I *could* see a market someday for a branded "Second Life Visa" that gives you linden dollar bonus for making a certain amount of RL purchases but not a card based soley in SL.

If you have to use your Credit Card as collateral. why not just buy Lindens and keep them in your account. It just adds another step where something can go wrong.

I considered allowing my customers to use First Meta's card. I had several very pleasant meetings with their staff. They seemed nice and all that.
But in the end... I chose not to offer that option to my customers. Mostly because I wouldn't use it myself. As others have said, if someone needs L$, they should just buy L$ and be done with it. If that can't afford the L$ purchase... well, there is nothing in SL so desperately needed that it can't wait to next payday, is there?

From: FD Spark 4. Consequences of Default If your account is in default, we may freeze or cancel your MetaCard™ and offset the outstanding balance by (i) debiting your MetaSavings™ account and/or (ii) charging your real-world credit or debit card. We may report your default to Linden Lab® and publicly disclose your avatar identity. We may also close your account permanently and issue a negative credit rating. Since some seem to be taking this as a quote from their site, I'll post what they actually say at https://www.firstmeta.com/main/tnc . Or do you have a link for them actually saying that they will disclose your RL identity? From: someone Consequences of Default If your account is in default, i.e. you fail to pay us any amount outstanding within three months from the day we froze your account for non-payment, we may cancel your credit card issued on your account and offset the outstanding balance by (i) debiting your savings account with us, (ii) charging the remaining outstanding balance to your real-world credit card and (iii) report your default to Linden Labs in order to inform them of your SL behavior for further monitoring. We may also close your account permanently and issue a negative credit rating.

I would never use this as a customer or a merchant. It's bad enough RL credit card companies work to saddle people with debt, I'm not about to act as an agent to multiply that through "virtual" debt on top of it. Paying interest and fees on money charged from a credit card is probably the epitome of foolishness.

Paying interest and fees on money charged from a credit card is probably the epitome of foolishness. Just as in RL to be paying interest on things like meals and gas, stuff that is not a tangible asset, the idea of running any sort of credit card balance for SL is a unacceptable thought.
