Hi folks,

I have implemented the MetaCard in my store and I wonder who, among those of you who use it, have been it used by customers for sales. Did you get many sales from the card?

I'm a Metacard merchant. It's a neat option for those who want SL debt like in RL. I have had some sales from shoppers with the card, but nothing like the sales from 'cash' shoppers. I figured I would test the waters with it and see if it has enough sale to offset the merchant costs. So far I'm still undecided, after December I will make my choice if I want to stick with it or not.

It's a feature of the Mysti-tool I will never use.

It does exactly what it says on the tin. It's a second life credit card that you pay each month. The concept is one of such monumental absurdity that I've passed through being amused and out the other side into terrified.

If the very concept of virtual debt itself doesn't confuse and frighten you, then no amount of explaining can make you see why it should.

"Oh geez why?" was not questioning it was idiotic, it was exclaiming it was. As in rhetorical question.

I'm one of those people who think a credit card in RL is stupid. You wind up paying 10 times what the product is worth.

I don't see it catching on in SL, but then again, I never thought Ginko would either.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

Only RL info you need to supply is your name and email address for a basic account. Unless you want to be a 'gold' member. That's where they want a backup in the case someone doesn't pay their balance or poofs from SL.

You must have missed that part...

I was actually considering using it as a consumer but the minimum payment if you don't do a certain amount of buying in a month turned me off, if they got rid of that I'd probably give it a try.

Just was reading about this.
Who would do this especially after Ginko bs?
I would never use credit myself in my first life, I sure wouldn't use here.
Was reading the faq and default.
I wonder what Linden Lab would do and how they plan to dislose avatars identities.
Also their is no real protection the company could use your real life credit card information
and use it unlawfully.
4. Consequences of Default
If your account is in default, we may freeze or cancel your MetaCard™ and offset the outstanding balance by (i) debiting your MetaSavings™ account and/or (ii) charging your real-world credit or debit card. We may report your default to Linden Lab® and publicly disclose your avatar identity. We may also close your account permanently and issue a negative credit rating.

Ok I give up can I get the Cliff notes of how this works?

-How do they guarantee people will pay them back?

-How do they stop Alt fraud?

This seems like it has the potential to be a reverse Ginko

In that tons of people supposedly owe them money but they cant get it.

yeah I think not...

I do use a credit card IRL, solely for the purpose of building my credit rating, I charge nearly everything to it, and pay it off immediately, I see no point or use to this other than to line the companies pockets directly from the vendors and buyers.... and seriously, DPR averages calculated on new purchases? wtf? that's cut throat

All I saw was that you were suppose to give them your real life credit card information and if you didn't pay or something they would charge your card.
They didn't say anything about them defrauding the consumer only what they do if you went default i.e reporting you to lindens, publicly sharing your personal information, filing a bad credit report.

In the sign-up process they ask about your SL. Business, job, etc. They then manually verify it. If they feel there is little risk you will be issued a basic account(5,000L limit). If you do not, you can then get a 10,000L limit gold card with a RL credit/debit card on file with them. They are a business in RL, and verify that your RL card is active. They also have a merchant account with a 25,000L limit (extendable to 40K if need be).

You can use the card to make purchases at stores that take the metacard or you can go to the metacard sim or any merchant store that has one of their ATM machines and take a 'cash advance' against your balance.

I've been using their card for a while now and have had no complaints. made cash advances to buy some land, and then paid the balance off at the end of the billing cycle to avoid finance fees(as I do in RL with my CC). As a security for me, I contacted my RL card's bank and ANY charge from this company would have to be approved by me. So I look at it, I have no risk in it at all. I know better then to use the 'savings account' they offer. :D
