Today I was IMed about a sofabed that was bought from me that doesn't work. The sofabed contains cuddles, sex, and stuff like that. I IMed instructions about "Reset Scripts in Selection", and said I'd stay logged in so she can tell me if it solved the problem. Maybe 10 minutes later, she IMed to say that it didn't fix it. 10 minutes was a long time for doing that, btw.

So I went over and found that all the animations and scripts were missing, and I told her that someone had removed them. She said something about someone at the previous location messing about, so I told her that only someone who could edit her things could have done it. There was a guy there too, and he started rezzing things - a box and then a bed. During that, she said that the scripts and animations are not in her inventory. Then the guy said, "I'll find them and put them back."

What a bloody cheek! Calling me out to fix something when what they were actually doing was trying to get the first set into another piece of furniture and hoping that I'd replace the sofabed, or put a fresh set into it. Some people really are unscrupulous.

I don't know for certain that the girl was knowingly involved in the attempted theft but, since she didn't IM to say something like, "Sorry. I'd no idea he took them out", I favour that they tried it between them.

Yep :)

I know it's not worthy of its own thread, but I was bored and it is of interest to some people.

Jesus, Phil. I can't believe anyone can be that cheap to not want to pay your prices.

You know... I sometimes wonder if price really has anything to do with people like that.
I think they get some kind of weird thrill out of cheating someone, almost like... they won the GAME!

Maybe they think the goal in SL is to cheat as many people as they can, and they will win when they hit a certain number?

Who knows what these folks think...

(the best one I had was when a group of girls came over to pick up the little teddy bear avatars I made, well one had no money so another paid for the no money gal's teddy bear

when no money gal could not get it to work (she did not grasp how to "replace outfit" o.O) she demanded her money back, well needless to say we were all stunned LOL

She wanted her money back and she did not even buy it!!! (I refunded the one who was nice enough to pay for no money gal, because well, I felt I ought to)

it was... interesting to say the least

Well, with camping at 1L per 15 minutes these days, my prices must be very high :)

I'd imagine in most cases it is as you said. People just want something for nothing, or enjoy weaseling something out of you. It is a game to them, it makes them fell smarter than everyone else. Look how politicians get all smug as smarmy while they steal our money.

I'm inclined to agree with that.

And yes, I do think for many it is just a game, of how much can I fool someone today.

Sad indeed!

Phil, if its any consolation, this has happened to us too.. a few times.
The very very best one was this guy who IM me same thing.. the bed didnt work .. no menu etc
so i ask him to pass me the bed to check.. no he says he will bring it.. send him a TP please. So i send him a TP.. and wait and wait.. i send him an IM asking him if he got the TP.. yes he says one moment... 10 minutes later .. another IM.. please send TP again..
so i do.. 5 min later another IM.. hangon i am changing.. then 10ish minutes later.. please send TP again.. so i do

eventually he arrives with a hugely erect penis attached. I ask him nicely to remove it. but he goes straight into this tirade about the effing bed and how it effing wont work.. and how he bloodywell wants his money back...and another copy of the bed as compensation.. how we stole his money by selling him stuff that didnt work..

so i ask him to give me the bed.. and lo and behold.. its empty.. I explained how sometimes ppl can make a mistake and remove the contents (which werent even in the root prim to avoid this prob) and i just gave him back the empty bed and told him to look in his invent.. and to send me the 199 animations and the bed and i will send him a replacement.

never heard from him again. he left with the bed and his raging hardon.

I never even think about it anymore. It happens that people break stuff, deliberate or not. It's not worth the effort or energy to find out if they are legit. I just replace the item and thank them for coming to my place. Almost all are honest, very few are not.

Not necessarily. A clock's hour and minute hands could be out of alignment and thus never show a correct time, or the clock could be shattered to smithereens and thus not be displaying a time at all.

:p
