So I was on my island and checking on the top scripts in the sim as I do regularly and I noticed avatars were now showing up in top scripts. They did not have to be on a pose ball for them to show up. Just their name as an object and the script time they are using. Has anyone else noticed this? Have I been under a rock or something because this is a big deal and something I have asked for for a long time. Could someone else confirm this, because if this is a temprorary glitch i want to keep it LOL.

I spotted this earlier today on one of our resident's sims whilst checking performance - seems I was taking up 0.315 ms!

It means that sim owners can now see how much script time individual avatars are using up in their sim. Avatars can be the biggest resource hogs in SL and now the owners of islands have a tool to see who is contributing the most to script lag. For me this is more of a big deal than the Avatar Rendering Cost score ever was. I am only surprised it was not announced.

This has been around for a couple of weeks, now. Heard it in concierge chat, maybe the only useful thing I've heard since joining a few weeks ago.

This came in with the last sim upgrade. It's extremely useful to find out who is causing the problems on a sim. I really hope it pushes content creators to focus more on efficient scripting for their avatar attachments.

Yes, this came out during the rolling restarts that brought us server version 1.26. I really like it, though I wish there was a way to separate avatars out of top scripts. Since avatars move in and out of the sim I would like to be able to also look at just the scripts in objects, so that I can monitor my overall script time with a more consistent list. Anyone know if there is a way to sort so that the avatars don't show up?
BTW, it is really interesting to be able to see the script time an avatar takes up, and I wish there was a way for everyone to see this information about themselves, not just estate owners. The script time of some avatars can be really over the top. _____________________

The next step: script strip searches in clubs
04-23-2009 22:26
I've been eyeing script time on avatars in my sims for a bit, I see women with 3.0 ms! and more! To put that in perspective, a really lagged sim is probably at a total of 20 ms. script time (adding up every script in the sim, including those worn). When script limits are instituted for sims, we'll see sim owners and club managers just asking people to leave if they are too heavily scripted.

Often avatars are not aware of many other scripts that are inserted by the creator of attachments. I mention in other thread about a copybot protector script I found in my hair. I went through all the other prims and found 2 more scripts. They were just called New Script, were NoMod+NoCopy. The hair prims themselves being Mod+Copy+NoTrans. So I suppose was also some kinda security thingy that the creator thought was necessary.
Also I have a pair of shoes that I really like. They 104 prims each. And each foot has 72 scripts. My ARC goes from 907 to 1652 when I put them on and over 1800 when I move. All that scripting probably there for a reason but it seems a bit excessive for a pair of shoes. I not able to remove the scripts because the shoes are NoMod. I have them fitted the way I want and I didnt need a script to do this. I wish was I allowed to delete the scripts. I not wear them much except at Home, simply because I dont want to be a lag monkey when I go places. Is a pity really because I do really like them. I send notecard to creator asking can I buy another pair thats not scripted but I never hear back. |

I brought this very topic up a few weeks ago with my thread calling to "Ban the resizer scripts"
Damselfly hair is one of the worst culprits, Shylah Honey ignored my call to come to the thread to comment. To be fair it's not her hair per se that's the problem but like most, near 200 prim hair, each with a script that *most* girls fail to remove or know how or even why they should remove adds near 0.5ms and has no function whatsoever. Then there's the radars... (why aren't people using the little << button in the local chat dialog? that tells you who is in range, what's the deal with radars, seriously... WHY?) Worst of all, scripted resize objects which are no copy because then nobody wants to remove the scripts. As for making content creators more careful...nice...*if* they didn't have to have estate rights. This would be much better as something if everyone could see it and let the witch hunts begin... |

This would be much better as something if everyone could see it and let the witch hunts begin... I'm not so sure about the witch hunts but I agree this would be a great feature if they made it available to everyone. Any tool that helps us assess the performance of our avs and attachments is beneficial all round. Perhaps it's too laggy for general use in itself? I believe ARC is quite heavy in that respect. |

ARC gives an indication of texture lag, since certain textures just take longer to render (planar maps, alphas). I think that is directed more at client side lag than anything else.

I'm not so sure about the witch hunts but I agree this would be c great feature if they made it available to everyone. Oh they would happen. Neva Naughty went on a rampage electing and offering to ban their staff who had too high an ARC because they incorrectly thought it caused lag to the sim. Amusing part was they would not state what too high was. Ban without warning - nice! So yes if we all saw each others lag it would be hunt time. What would be nice would be a way to restrict access to those greater than a set limit or effectively disable their scripts |

So how do we check top scripts on our land? Can any land owner do this?

Only region owners and estate managers can check top scripts, and if you own mainland, you can't.

I found myself taking up .132 to .147 of script time when in sailing gear - my Mystitool was taking up around .7 of that. My AO from Silva's Animation Factory only took up about .02, the Mystitool takes up about .7 or .8.

I was a PI owner in the early days of the various multi tools and I am not kidding in the least when I say I could tell the instant someone landed on the island wearing one.you could clearly see the jump in script times on the ctrl+shift+1 panel. In the case of our island, 1 person w/multitool quadrupled the script times of the entire island. LOL
I can just imagine what its like now with overscripted hair + AO + shoes + Xcite + TIny EMpires + name your gadget here. |

Have I been under a rock or something because this is a big deal and something I have asked for for a long time. Could someone else confirm this, because if this is a temprorary glitch i want to keep it LOL. In this last server release they enabled the Top scripts to show Users script time. They are collecting data to make to see where they may need to make possible future changes to enhance server performance.. Our busy region can have anywhere from 8,000 to `16,000 active scripts lol. Which Averages out to be, 100 to 200 scripts per user (Amazing huh?). I only have about 900 on the land. I notice that if a user is on a dance ball for a long time, it registers script usage to their avatar. They are attached to the object so I can see why id does that. The longer they are on it. The larger the number will be.. They may want to take that into consideration when collecting that data.. I think the biggest heavy script most users wear is an AO.And The resize scipt is heavy. I think they should incorporate an AO system into the viewer .. Pratically everyone uses a free AO script to begin with . What you are really paying for is the animation. So if they set it up where all you have to do is load the animation in your viewer with a few kool settings . it might take a slight load off of things . I havent been doing any witch hunts, but just monitoring the amount and load each script uses. Very intersting to see My staff is the most buital script runners on the land lol All of them run on the top of the list. (freakin Divas! They have to have all the dooodads!) hahahah ![]() _____________________

I think that one runs tops as well lol' I use the Mystitool sleeper to help ease the pain on my region. It asks the users to enter sleep mode while on the premisis.. then when they leave it is automatically enabled.. Nice of them to provide that lol _____________________

That .7 or .8 was only the HUD... I forgot to take out the implant. I'm sure that would take up most of the rest of my script time, since I'm not wearing any jewelry.

yep... without the implant, and taking off the AO, the only bit of script time I had was my hugger, .005 of script time.

I guess the fundamental question is, what is a decent script time for avatars and for sims in general?

I noticed it too in top scripts, only recently. My question is, how do you approach someone with this issue, when they are using a huge amount of resources? Now that you know, is there anything you intend to do about it? If you are an estate owner/manager, are you going to have a chat with your good, tier paying resident to explain this and ask them to do something about it? I'm not sure how to proceed when I notice that it's an actual avatar. I don't want to lose people by being overly ticky.
