I have had the pleasure of meeting Ann, a very nice, intelligent person who makes the bestest shtuff, not that I mean much imho (shutup 2k), and I am not believing Lindens are involved in a conspiracy....but H&R Block looked kind of bizarro. I mean even if you need tax advice and want to seek it online, are you gonna look in Second Life ?
I mean they have to be capable of coming up with a better way, if they look at coming up with better ways, not that I, being anyone in particular (shutup 2k) would have an intuitive grasp of better ways.

From: Brenda Connolly The general consensus goes against the OP's view and I concur. I am troubled that the two posts that I especially liked were from 2K and poopmaster.... /me grins -- Me too!

From: MortVent Charron on behalf of the forums I got to ask... how did you get her to zip it? This thing you allege must not be spoken of, if indeed it happened, which it surely did not, because such a thing must not be spoken of when it happens, not that it did, or ever will, and if it did, would not be discussed, because it shouldn't be, if it happened, which it couldn't have. Goes to watch Fight Club for the rules, never having posted this.

-In my opinion SHOWCASE is just unfair! It prefers some places/clubs/shops, it's sure that place, shown in the showcase section will have more visitors/ more possible buyers.
-Popular places should show which places in SL we Users like to visit! But Showcase doesnt?! Its shows a lot "empty" places? *lol* I dont see how empty places will make SL more attractiv to new residents *giggles* We Users have no possiblity to influence showcase! So the former idea of popular palces has gone lost compeltly!
-Im not a builder, designer, club owner or so, but Im sure a lot of these people are very wondering about why LL is making promotion for free for some of thier competitors?
Greetings Maxine

Maxine, Popular Places has been gamed to hell and back. Now it mostly shows which places have the most traffic bots and the most campers (usually camping bots). It can't really be used as an accurate indicator as to which are the most popular places among real, live Residents that like to move around and explore places instead of parking 15 avatars on chairs and leaving them there for weeks on end. There are several long-running threads on this forum debating (that's me putting it nicely) the use of bots to increase traffic. Also, this makes two necroposts today. Is there some serious linkage going on in the blogosphere to raise these old posts from the grave?

I don't visit the Showcase section. Never felt the desire to. My recommendations come not from Linden Lab, but from friends and bloggers who go to amazing places and tell me about them. I don't particularly mind if a sim is empty. If that sim is an amazing build, I'm happy to be there alone. Indeed, often I prefer to be there alone, the better to savour it in solitude.

I prefer places, where I can meet people! Thats why Im in SL! Meeting folks from around the world! For a silent time I go into busy mode!
I guess a there are possibilities for a better tool as "popular places" has been! And for a tool being more fair and informatively as Showecase is!
greetings Maxine

Some take the "resident" market speak a little too seriously, I think.
For these conspiracy theorists who do hardly anything else but complain about how terrible LL is, they sure cling to the various LL market speak idioms. That doesn't reconcile for me. I find it odd, to say the least.
In any event, Ann is trying a bit too hard to be tough, as usual.

Ive said it before and i will say it againl...showcase is not going to harm my biz one bit. I get my customers from the marketing and promotions i do and not from whining about what someone else is getting that im not. My biz has steadily increased since fall of 2007 when i opened one tiny shop. I have researched and worked it like a RL biz...I put in alot of hours and effort to get my name out there...even going so far as the stay on these forums just for name recognition in addition to other factors.
I do not agree the showcase is some evil plot by SL to reward certain biz's. If you want to be on it, submit your info just like everyone else has done for months who wants to be shown there. SL has a system for accepting applications and reviewing them. They are not walking around handing out blue ribbons to folks who just happen to be standing around waiting for them.
So i believe all the hand wringing and cries of unfairness on the part of vendors in SL is a hige waste of time and energy. Get back to work, do your homeowork and SUBMIT YOUR OWN BIZ to the showcase.
BTW, I have submitted the Etopia sims which are technically "for profit" since they are not "non-profit" and we do rent commercial and residential space in order to raise enough money to cover tier and expenses. Acc. to the OP and others, it seems we would be excluded from showcase because we "make money" if they had their way. Since our goal is to be educational model of sustainability with all that includes, i think that blanket exclusions of "commercial" ventures in SL from the showcase is a HUGE mistake and another knee jerk...OMG someone is depriving me of something kind of reaction.
just my 2 cents...smile

From: Yumi Murakami I'm a bit sad to see that the *ONLY* Tutorials listed in the Showcase are Torley's videos. Now, they're good, but there are many other more interactive tutorials around the world. I agree - and while I do have some interest in seeing Robin Sojourner's Texture Tutorial listed as a tutorial, I would argue that the Ivory Tower and Particle Lab need to be featured.
