Camping For Money

I see these people sitting around "camping" to earn linden dollars. I tried this but was logged out for inactivity.

How do you go about doing this without being logged out?

There's a setting in the Advanced menu to stop your av from going AFK as long as the viewer window isn't minimized, but I'm at work and can't check the specifics for you.

Camping really isn't a great way to make L$ though. I mean, even if you get a relatively decent payout of 5L per 10 minutes, it's still going to take about 9 hours to earn the equivalent of 1USD.

Someone actualy worked out it cast you more in Electricity to run your computer that what you can make camping. .. you "lose" money not make it.

Yeah. Camping is only a beginner's way to earn lindens IMO. If I wanted to earn lindens that badly, I would participate in trivia events.

BTW, my "sister" Danielle did get a hosting gig at a club this week, and she did reasonably well! And she's only been a member for not even 2 months. Too bad a 9-month veteran like myself still doesn't have a job as yet; but at least I do earn lindens through trivia, and Danielle is doing well thus far and contributes money to me when in need. That's what "sisters" are there for.

Yeah you have better luck see if you could get paid by tips working as hostess, dancer or escort it seems these days...but that isn't sort of my thing.
When I was new there were good places to camp and play games at same time, you could earn up to 10k to 15k a month doing it not now its much harder.
There is places you can still win money in contest, games, and some jobs still out there but I never really could figure out any more then I have been able to figure out how to sale my artwork here.

Or...you could put a credit card, debit card, or Paypal account/bank account on file and just spend a buck and buy Lindens! It's much easier and a lot less work.

Gone are the days when a good camping place could actually earn you enough to make it worth your time. When I started way back when I found a place that had dance poles that paid 5$L per 15 mins. It was also a strip club so if you stayed with your keyboard and paid any atttention at all you could "earn" much much more in tips. I did that for about 6 months straight then dropped to just doing it occassionally. I developed an addiction to skins..............I was one of those freaks. I presently own more that 70 skins that cost from about 500 $L to 4000 $L. And I think I only purchased Lindens one time durring that 6 month period at $20 USD (heck, I've only purchased Lindens twice in the nearly three years I've been in SL..........at $20 buck each time). You do the math.......there used to be money in camping. Skins haven't changed prices much at all since I've been in SL.

Of course if I had only parked my avatar on a pole and gone to bed I couldn't say that. There used to be lindens to be made if you worked at camping. But not any more.

in my very first days i have had problems with sl and my cc, so i have had to set up paypal and was exploring sl without any bucks in my pocket.
awnee_ruth with build in hairs, basic cloth, duckwalk and all the wellstyled people round me, maybe you know how it feels, noone wanted to chat with me, i only was asked for xxx, ...
i was hunting freebies and have edited my shape, was camping, dancing, stripping for peanuts.
i met a guy (clubowner) he was friendly and gave me xk of lindens for nothing.
i was able to buy a real shape and skin some cloth too and have had the money to rent my first home.
now i have my own island and have made my shape, skin, hair, cloth for myself, the camper reminds me to my first days in sl.

camping for money is ok, but frankly its to less money you can earn with - most newbies dont know bout campbots.
i remember my last shape i bought was 5k lindens mod/copy and different skins included
welldesigned cloth is costy, shoes, hairs, ...
a private home to edit your appaerance - its boring to respawn nude in public areas cos of a viewercrash.

I still camp while I´m afk.
I have my pc on anyway so why not camp and earn a bit or L$?

-Escorts don't earn as much as they used to, the market is too tight these days (or so I've been told).
-Loads of "camping" places are hoaxes with the owners' bots filling the spaces.
-There is basically no "easy money" anymore in SL.
-Linden$ aren't as expensive as they were 2 months ago though, so that's a good alternative for some.
-If you do have a special interest, and a matching talent: go for it. You probably won't get rich, but if it's enough to sustain your way of second life, or make some things easier, then why not?

I know how to do the credit card thing to put money on my account but there are times when I may want to "camp out" or hang around in an area where they are giving out money just for you being there and having their name in your picks.

Would someone tell me how I keep my Avatar from being logged off for inactivity? It is a simple question and one of you should know the answer.

Go look in the Advanced menu, like I said in post #2.

If you don't see that menu, hit Ctrl-Alt-d.

Edit:

Client > Character > Character Tests > Go Away/AFK When Idle (uncheck)

Er, maybe...they changed the menus a bit a few versions ago, so the info may be a little different.

I was never fan of campin... but I used to do it back 2 years ago..WOW I am getting old LOL..

as someone else said I have my PC on all the time, so why not. I stoped though (heck I have 4 PCs on 24/7 and enough alts and family AVs that could camp.

used to be 5L per 10 minutes anad bad ones were 2-3L for 10-15 min but now try finding better than 3L for 60 min its not even worth it if your going to be AFK as you can't come back and play for at least an hour to get paid.


Have you done the Money trees? they are more pay (when you get a full tree (heck the one I have out had 40L on it the other day, mind you only 15 can be picked per day per AV on mine *each set there own rules)

Besides not just sitting you get to explore, if you don't just hop top the next.. you may find a great gem of a build/sim, a club you love, a store you must come back to after you have collected those riches

to not get Kicked has already been explained... there used to be anti idle orbs to wear as well (scripts are bad though do the adcance and debug if you must...

now I'm thinking if I could find a good decent paying spot that was not all bots...hmmm

I'd really like to know how to use the Money Trees in SL. Can veteran members (not just newbies) pick money off the tree and still collect a lot?

My sister, Danielle, told me she did touch and collect "dollar bills" while scuba diving in a SL region - and she did it fully clothed!

Back to the Money Tree, does the money exist on the tree all the time or is it only loaded during certain periods of the day? Is there competition involved?

I must try it out on a near-daily basis and see what results will occur over time.

Camping varies. I do it when I have the sit-flesh to not be up and hanging in a sandbox or dancing. It is nice to get paid to straighten out the inventory. You need to find good, well supervised campatoria. I'll recommend two. I don't use one because I won't join their group. It's a Christian group and I'm Jewish, but that's not a problem for a lot of people

Eternal Creations -- 3L/15min They watch for bots and the owners are out there supervising the camping pads at Club Eternal.

Gomorra (Actually it's Ilha Bella Gomorra. There's also a Sodom but it's full of ban lines) -- 2L/10 minutes. Group membership required and there are regular bot checks.

Hey 12L/hour to clean your inventory isn't bad.

Most money trees will only pay to newbies, less than 30 days old. So, if you are older, you are out of luck. Money is "rezzed" at time intervals based upon a limited amount of money available. The idea was to get you to tp in and wait for money to rez thereby increasing your traffic (back when traffic meant anything). Now the amount of time spent is a factor that increases traffic on a parcel.

Hence the use of bots, look around there are parcels full of them. All bots are good for is to trap newbies into believing that a parcel is "popular". Well I would say take a look around. Do a number of the avatars have the same first name? If the do, I don't buy a single thing there and stay even shorter. Try and talk to ppl, do they respond? Probably not. You can't really think there are 60k users online at any given time.

But back to the subject, there are better ways to "earn a living" in Second Life. Try and build something, or script and make the world a better place.

I miss camping I made more money then I have with anything I made.
I would love a job that paid 50 to 90L hour or 1000L a day while I am sleeping, socializing, create or learning to create things while making new friends but that just doesn't exist any more.

I use Sleek the sl text based client to camp. make pretty good to, enough to rent a place, and buy all my goodies and stuff

I don't really have the time and energy to build anything in SL. After all, RL comes first.

And just to clarify: are "bots" referred to users controlled by the computer and not the human?

For the time being, I will stick with trivia. AllieKat's trivia does pay hefty lindens, as far as I know.

I don't think when I first started that camping was an option. I took a small break, roughly a month or two and when I came back, there was camping. I think the highest I saw was L$9/10min. I admit, I used it to get DiamonX up and running and haven't done it since. Made for a nice start up though.

Sadly, it was camping that helped kill dev incentives. If it hadn't, 06/06/06 would have finished it off.
