This subject was brought up in another thread, but thought it would be worthwhile to ask here. Is there a Mars sim in Secondlife? Casual search and google didn't find anything. There is the REALISTIC Mars diorama at the NASA museum, of course, and while spectacular, that's not what I mean. I mean something along the lines of canals and aging buildings. Barsoom would be spectacular, but other imaginings would be good too. Friends of mine have been building Space 1889 aerial fliers, and I cobbled together Sky Galleon to sport about in as well. We've been having fun in the Middlesea of Caledon, but would love to soar along over the arid plains of Barsoom If not a proper Mars, is there some area that could be seen as Marish? Such as long, empty rolling red lands? Here we are with some ironclads in a Not At All Mars part of Second Life:

I haven't found Mars here yet but I still think it would be cool to introduce new planets as new grids, and give us the ability to transfer between grids/planets. I think I made that a "big new idea" suggestion in JIRA a long time ago.

I was exploring the Avaria Kro Sim (and its surrounding sims) and it sort of reminded me of Mars with its sandy ground and very little vegetation.
Not quite Mars, but there are canyons to drop down and travel along.
and then there are the caves...
very cool to fly around in

OMG, Barsoom would be so cool.
I never wear silks, because I don't want to be mistaken for a Gorean kajira...but I'd wear them if I could ride a thoat or a flier, behind a clean-limbed fighting man. Then we'd curl up in our sleeping silks and furs and watch the hurtling moons. Sigh.
The sim next door could be Heinlein's Mars, with three legged aliens and ruined towers and asteroid miners passing through on the way to the Belt.
OK, that's it. Barsoom is going to be my next project. Now, if I can just round up some investors. Who's in?

What about Bradbury's Mars? Don't forget that one... or the Mars from "Outlander" I think it was, or "Total Recall?" If I had the money, I'd totally go in on it with you Lindal.

As long as you are the Master of your life, who cares what they think. I left Gor a bit ago and I still wear mine. Let's go walk around Venus in our silks!!!!

I always wear silks and I am not a Kajira and have never been mistaken for one. I am a pet with a mind of her own and not to be bought and sold. Grab your silks out of your closet, shake the dust off them, wear them with pride and hold your head high. I do

I built a sky-galleon inspired skybox that I lived in for a while. It's too many prims to be a vehicle, unless I try one of those nifty no-phys flyer scripts.

There's a Mars section of the Privateer Space sim, complete with a dust devil and canals, but it has somehow gotten an atmosphere and some really odd saurian livestock, so I don't know quite what the story is. There is a very cool subterranean Barsoom-like temple. http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=245892&sort=Pictures.PictureID+desc&Name=Galena+Qi

I swear the first time I read this I thought you said Bradley's Mars. I was shocked to hear you'd be interested in a red planet populated with hot men in thongs.

Or you can attach part of the vehicle to your avatar, and have the movement script in some part that you don't don't attach. That is how the 300+ cars are able to move. The wheels are rezed, the rest of the car is attached to the avatar. re: Primotors (how does that go? It is something like Primmotors, or primoters or. . .ack). Or motorcycle, see Lost Coyote.

From: Virginna Tombola Is the a Mars sim in Second Life? http://slurl.com/secondlife/Exploratorium/128/165/251This SLURL will take you to a scale model of the Mars planet surface and a simulation of an asteroid impact. Recently an asteroid, 2007 WD5, came very close to hitting Mars. The model crater is 50 m in diameter. The model runs in slow motion 1/10 the speed of an actual event If it hit, it would have created a crater 1,000 meters in diameter. The 1000 m diameter crater would be made by a 50 m diameter rock hitting the surface at 20 km/s. At this speed a rock would cross a large city in 1 second. The asteroid travels about mach 40 through the atmosphere of Mars. It would have released the energy of an H bomb, 3 megatons. The particle effects are themselves massive ~ 100m diameter and hundreds of meters high. Set sun to midnight and particles to 8192 and be prepared to be astonished! The model is brought to you by the Exploratorium ~ the museum of Science, Art and Human Perception Project Director atio Plasma Builder /scripter: Emileigh Starbrook Special effects/scripter: Debbie Trilling A video of this simulation was shown to delegates at the RL NASA World Conferance and you can see the video yourself at: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6610040126244581082&hl=enBut the simulation at the above SLURL is far better!

Mars, the planet? I got confused with seeing ocean and ships.
NASA is working on a Mars sim--made of entirely sculpties at full size...very impressive, and very slick. I was invited to see it under construction when I met the gentleman in charge at a movie sim I was working on.
I'm not sure it's out yet, but it was pretty damn cool. Last I know the build was way up in the sky.

One of thew lower levels in Privateer Space has an awesome Mars build. Everyone should look at it, IMO.

That was an amazing Machinima, Debbie! But what I'm really looking for is more Barsoomy.
Does anyone have a SLURL to Privateer Space? I must be really dim today, as Search only got me a small scripting group's headquarters.

From: Annabelle Babii Who's going to design the 3m tall six-limbed avatars?
oooh... and are we gonna all lay eggs? Maybe I can get Grendel's Children to design the alien avs (green men, and the white apes) and the thoat and zitidar "vehicle" animals. Zooby's could do the martian warhounds. We'll need a skin maker to come out with a line for the "red men" of Mars...or maybe there are some existing ethnic skins out there that would serve. As for egg-laying...YOU do it if you want to. I want to become oviparous about as much as I want to become pregnant with a prim baby. But let's not start yolking around until we've worked out the hard-boiled details. To do this, I'd need a consortium of, say, ten investors, each willing to put up about US$ 200 for the private island and its development, and willing to lay out US$20 a month in tier. After construction, the investors could live on the sim themselves, or rent out their share to tenants. Some of them, at least, should be builders, wanting to try their hand at constructing Helium, a green Martian war camp, an atmosphere plant, the Lost Sea of Korus, some underground areas, fliers (small and large), and at least a couple of fairly extensive skybox builds (aforementioned underground areas, Evil Overlord Strongholds, and one of the Moons of Mars). And does anybody know how to script a gadget to allow Earthmen visiting Barsoom to experience the reduced gravity and air pressure? A "jumper", if you will? If anyone's interested in exploring this further, IM me. If we get enough serious players, maybe we can do it.
