THAT got a bit annoying after a while, I'll tell you . . .

I staggered onto the main grid totally clueless as I was fed up with being bumped about on OI and the parrot thing was annoying (yes, Im still impatient lol) Somehow found my way day one to A Lady and spent my 300L I had been given upon starting on a shape. Met a guy there who gave me 3000L to de-noob, i was insistant that he have it back but actually on day one had no idea HOW to give it back ! He was lovely and i DID pay him back a few months later,thanks to him I had skin,hair,manicure,ao & hair on day one.

I thought I looked prettttty hawt...in my awesome designs outfit (free) and blingy shoes..was sharply told infact I looked lousy when I applied for a strippers job. Was taken to Simone and directed to the range of clothing more suitable for the position and voila.

I kind of denoobified myself.

Bought land, and started trying to figure out what I was doing with it, and that sort of let me see a lot more about what was going on in SL than when I was just dancing in clubs, hitting the free-this or that spots, and entering outfit contests.

Owning your own piece of mainland really forces you to start seeing under the hood.

Guess that's the Neko in me - a loner unless I want attention, and then I need to be buried in it.

Back in 06 when I first logged in everything was a grey shape of not much clear detail.

I was on whatever the welcome island was called back then, and it said to edit my shape, so I did. I'm still wearing the shape I made, and in fact a version of it is a freebie available in my shop (different face, same body).

When I came back in 09 and realized everybody else had gotten giant with big boobs and tiny butts with no hips... I figured I was GTG in the shape department - I had a look that got me a -LOT- of positive attention. I'm as brown in SL as I am in RL, but in SL it doesn't get used against me.

I googled when I came back, for some help on good items. I found an outdated 06 blog with something called a SLURL all over it. Not knowing what that was, I typed the names it mentioned into SL search, and TP'd to those places, and got some really nice freebies.

After being in for a bit and finding a few nice freebie shops, I found a box with cat tail and ears in it. Trying them on, I've never been able to feel comfortable without them since: although I later switched to a purchased and well scripted set.

At this point I was already getting some intense attention, and on my freebies winning costume / dressup contests. I figured, at the time, that I could work it and make 300-500L a day as an average - but started to sense it was not time efficient.

After that I went searching for what had happened to me, and found http://virtualneko.com/ . From her blog, I learned about Neko skins, and some fashion, and so on.

Realized right away I, like most nekos, was NOT grunge.

Though I didn't know most nekos were anti-grunge until much later. At the time I fell for the hype and just believed I was the unusual neko.

The final step in losing the noob look was when I saw a woman in a club who had on a skirt that really floored me. I inspected her, found the name of the skirt, and the designer, and looked up that designer, and landed at Bare Rose.

I never found that skirt, but that point forward I was willing to buy outfits to improve my look, get my own AO going, and work to customize myself.

No one...

I read up about SL on various blogs and I had a guide book. Left the beginner area immediately and just visited popular sites.

I "denoobyfied" myself.

Created my own shape my second day in SL (which I still use), signed up for SLexchange, and bought a skin (by Munchflower Zais) and hair. I bought my first clothes from low cost and freebie places. I signed up for a Greeter, but by the time she and I got in touch I didn't need her help anymore.

Brace Coral and Simone Stern forced me to upgrade my skin two years back. So by some reckoning, maybe they "denoobyfied" me. But then again, I still wear my second day purchase mesh hair, so maybe I'm still not "denoobyfied". Then again, I took over running NCI from Brace when I was two and a half months old, so maybe I am.

Over the four and a half years Linda has been in Second Life she's quietly helped hundreds of new residents like you, both through the SL Mentors and NCI. She doesn't make much noise about it, she doesn't politic, she doesn't ban people; she just helps--again and again and again.

I'm sure NCI will find some reason to get rid of her soon.

Hmmm..... wow it's been a while....

I guess the person who officially denoobed me would be the girl who gave me 2000L on HI and told me how to go shopping. I was a quick study....as soon as I saw all the cool skins and hair and threads....I morphed myself. I did my own shape initially....then I bought a few but they always seemed too freakishly large and over done so I started messing with that too.

The girl that gave me the Ls' tho....she was such a sweetheart.....never did find her again after that first day....but it definitely gave me a positive outlook on the rest of my SLife. Since then I've done a LOT of paying it forward. I like helping people (if they ask for it) as I am the same creature in SL as IRL.....I'm most satisfied if I can make someone else happy. But I'm still pretty much a loner.

I dont mean who made u hot looking, caws THAT was mainly Candace Flossberg my editrix, I mean who gave you that in depth SL knowledge and helped shape our attitudes and sensibilities in this, our virtual world. For me it was Lady Dawson (sorry Brianna) for example she introduced meto the works of Juro Kothari (i thought EVERYONE had a custom home by him like she does!)

Ok, then my first post counts, and my second doesn't.

The Stages of nOOb:

1. Totally clueless and asks too many questions instead of watching tutorials or reading the Wiki's.

2. Understands the basic mechanics of functioning in SL, and thinks they're no longer a nOOb.

3. Realizes they're still a nOOb because they don't really know anything beyond the basics.

4. Starts really engaging in SL and forgets about being a nOOb.

5. Starts to meet scripting gods and amazing designers - realizes they're still a nOOb because they've only skimmed the possibilities of SL.

6. Finally masters Second Life and realizing they're really no longer a nOOb, leave SL due to boredom and lack of challenge.

I sat at HIP for days completely intrigued though slightly intimidated by the chaos and fast paced banter. Finally I got the nerve to jump in with a question: “what does rez mean?” and I got my very first IM from the sweetest lady … SweatLady Eun.
Her and I became pretty close as she showed me what was possible in SL. But she was always a lady, no matter how ungentlemanly I would get. I was lucky though and if it weren’t for her and a few others kindness and patience I would have never lasted but a few more days maybe.
So blame SweetLady Eun.
I miss her sometimes.

This reminds me of the first IM I got, also from a lady. I didn't know about IM's or what they are. I thought it was someone invisible in local chat. I looked around - saw no one and got angry, thinking they were playing a trick on me.

To this day I don't know who the lady was or what might have been.
