Who denoobyfied you?

Everyone starts SL the same! as a know-nothing noob! It takes that one great mentor to shape our SL-destinies for good or ill. Who shaped you?

Though my editrix C. Flossberg was one who had a hand in denoobyfing me (though it mainly consisted of, "you still look like a noob!", the main person responsible for denoobyfing me was one of that last two Dawsons (L. not B.)

THIS Dawson also is credited with denoobyfing The Great Watermelon, so it's like TGW and I are like the 5 Deadly Venoms. Some day the last "student" of L. Dawson might just come and see if we are using our powers for good or ill and take me and THAT Linden out.

Janus Rhiadra both denoobified and deflowered me.

But now I manage to dress myself just fine.

I cheated, I had a RL mentor giving me advice before I even signed up. Had a skin and some passable clothes and hair in the first hour, and an AO I liked the next day.

Then again I'm still in the same horribly dated freebie skin years later, so in some sense I guess I'm still hopelessly noobified

The first person to ever get me to do anything more than stand and watch everyone else was an NCI regular - I think her name is /was Linda Coffee. A very patient individual.

How about a sister thread - how many have you personally denoobyfied?

.....a gorgeous, young Brazilian man....witty, intelligent, charming....grabbed me by the hand and took me out of Noobville the very first hour......ahh....the memories......but I digress.....

Kristyn Muir gave me a shape and skin, and taught me a ton about buying land the first week. She was a sweetheart. I wanted to buy her land, but LL had that darn limit on spending. Do they still have that?

The guys at my office helped me tweak the shape a little.

I don't know. I was a noob for a long time! A kind furry once brought me to Yadni's junkyard and gave me 100 lindens. I think that was the time I decided there was more to SL than wandering into people's homes. As far as dropping the noob look I think I did that myself when I started my very first alt after six months of wandering.

Nobody. I prefer to work alone. I left OI after an hour or so and just went in world and started wandering and finding quiet spots to figure things out. a lot of things I learned right here in the forums. I don't believe in the "SL Learning Curve" hype. I think it's just an LL publicity scheme to make SL users feel smug and superior to those who don't.

My first few months in SL I stumbled around like a very clueless noob

I owe Marilyn Murphy a *lot* of thanks for taking me under her wing so early on: teaching me what SL was like in the years before I joined, making me a custom shape (though I've since heavily modified it!), helping me with my look, introducing me to people, teaching me about SL photography...almost too many things to list in reminiscing about those times.

But, she very much helped shape my path in SL, probably more than she knows...

I'm just hanging out waiting for noobitude to become fashionable again.

Shaped me?? I shaped myself.. huh? I have always been the type who has to do things for myself, watching observing and commen sense...

People helped me along the way for sure.. mostly the classes I took. NCI, TUI etc.

I stumbled around by myself, studied the UI and the inventory/library, played with the appearance mode etc. All while never interacting with anyone.

Then as I was flying around I came across this place called the Shelter, went inside, sat on a chair and just watched the room as other noobs came, asked and left. After a while I was confident enough to test the dance balls.

I always sucked at actually *asking* for help, so pretty much like in RL it was just observe and learn.

I knew what I wanted to be so had a specific "Jig" in mind. I stayed as the real "myself" and just slipped into the skin. I lost my sl virginity to a lovely Dane. I covered most of Europe (or rather, Europe "covered" me), ended up married to a real South American architect who was a wolf, then found the sexuality of intelligent older men irresitible and partnered Hal.
In the meantme, I have had numerous lovers (many many men) who have all denoobed me and annoyed countless individuals who wished I had never been "born".
In many ways I am still a nooby since I am such a klutz and addicted to play in sl.

I was brought in by a friend from WoW, she actually brought 3 of us in, we just wanted to check it out and go to an event where she was DJ (she had been in SL since '06). I was the only one who stayed. She told me a few things, showed me around a little, and gave me some transferable clothes she had in her inventory. I had a question not long after that and came to the forums and have learned a lot here. Other than that it was mostly trial and error.

Except for a few helpful hints, I basically deenoobyfied myself. No mentors, helpers, tutors, or any of that... all observation and trial & error.

Uh. Maybe Lady is not friends with the other Dawsons so she told you we were the last 2, after all, she was wishing i was gone so people could keep thinking she was my alt . However, there are 2 Dawsons in my friends list - none of which are Lady - and 2 of them still log on, leaving 4 out of 14 total Dawson's still active.

In my case, it was pretty much a team effort. A friend & I sort of denoobified each other via trial and error plus visits to Sarah Nerd's, TaP (are they still around?) and GuRL 6.

ummm....a mentor called janelle tagged me from the first day at OI. She's been very helpful in support, advice and how the hell do I do this stuff questions. I also spent several weeks at OI, so I knew exactly what was going on before I flew the nest. Even now I ask janelle stuff and she always has the time to sort it. The 'male' denoobification process was self learnt. I also had really nice girlfriends who took pity on my shocking appearance.
