What kind of mind thinks about the population in terms of 16ths? That is like 6.25%. Isn't it alot more trouble to convert it into a fraction instead of using decimals?

OH look there are 2,678 servers malfunctioning, lets see that is how many 16ths?

You know what, we are all not very different. I cannot think of anyone here who has given LL a pass on every issue. I certainly haven't, and I don't recall MortVent of having a record of being "so defensive of LL that you'd think he owned stock."

But Usagi and some others are all piss and vinegar and use every opportunity to bash the company, even when the company had nothing to do with the subject.

Ah, I see. We don't like the posting player's attitude, so we take the company's side. Personality games....almost as valid as cheerleading for LL, ayep. </sarcasm>

So, because Usagi posts, LL gets a passs for 1/16th of their playerbase/systems being down? I am reminded a lot of the posters over on the SLUniverse septic tank that are so into personalities that if certain players said the sky was blue they would devote a 10 page thread to disagreeing. Lovely seeing that same mindset start here. :(

I can understand Usagi, it is normal to become bitter when one is repeatedly burned. Hell, after the last month's DAILY screwups (broken search, unable to log in, failed transactions, etc) my sales went to zero and I nearly lost 2+ years of land and items in SL. Now that its going (semi) smoothly and things are back to normal saleswise, I still have a very strong bias against the Lindens and their level of incompetence so recently displayed.

Like I said. I like SL....but the Lindens? I'd like to see most of them replaced and stability become the primary focus over flashy toys.

LL doesn't get a pass. It's a separate issue.

The daily asset server issues are a constant thorn in the side to progress and development. LL is being cheap and keeping us on MySQL when they should make the investment to a more powerful database. The quality control of the viewer is ridiculous, when some of the simplest things become buggy. Yes, these things suck. Yes, it clearly smacks of incompetence. Yes, we are all frustrated. But not like some people, who use EVERY opportunity to twist the knife in LL, even when it is unwarranted, even when it's unrelated or past the point of reasonable connection to the issue.

There is plenty of discontent to go around, but some people have it in spades. Such bitter vitriol does beg the question as to why anyone stays when they hate the company that deeply. Customer service is spotty - good in some places, abysmal in others. Some would not be intellectually honest enough to recognize the good that is done, as well as the bad.

If I hated LL as much as some people here do, I wouldn't stay. Voting with your feet is the strongest message to a company that you hate.

Non-Techie minds.

Most non-technical folks I know say 'half a tank of gas' not '50%' -- '1/8th a cup' not 12.5% a cup -- '1/16"' rather than 0.0625 inches. For me, 6.25% makes sense, I can visualize that....but I am an electrical engineer turned systems admin. For my friends and family, 1/16 is just easier to visualize.

MortVent won't make sense. He, like some folks, is so defensive of LL you'd think he owned stock! You express displeasure and they jump to the Linden's defense with the ever snappy comback of 'if you hate how things go, leave!' comments. He is one of these 'defend the lab, attack angry customers' types, for which the common term is 'fanboy'. These types cannot seem to understand the idea of liking the game, hating how its run...apparently assuming if you detest the lindens it means you detest the game.

For those of us not vacuum-attached to the posterior of the lab, its a no-brainer why we stay. We like Second Life. We don't like the fact the Lindens are utterly incompetent (problems occur, are marked [resolved] and then reoccur, sometimes the same day....not a mark of competence) at everything but PR spin and Torley-style 'sunshine and flowers' posts.

/me looks at the ARC related threads where he was anything but cheering on LL's actions with it

Might want to do some research before you start flinging mud.

I asked a question as to why people who are predominantly posting negatively about a game/service stick with it.

When SWG changed to a point, the 3 years I had it in were weighed and I left. Same with many other games and services.

With SL you can pack it all up in inventory, cash out the lindens. And then wait to see if they get it back on track for your enjoyment.

Depends on where the happy bar is in relation to "that's enough".

I did the same as you did, in my case EQ, but it took time for the aggravation to build enough to overwhelm the previous love. You probably thought about it a few times before doing it, trying to hang in there. People who complain so bitterly or with such determination usually care a huge amount about what they are upset over...passion for the platform.

In the case of SL, it meets some non-traditional gaming needs also, that may not be easy to meet in other applications.

Why not just let them vent ?

When they can vent constructively I don't have a problem. When all they have is more or less canned whines, it becomes something that irks me.

The only question I had about this entire thread was the exact same one you did. Outside of woodworking where you have to halve numbers to split angles when you do joinery work, I haven't worked with fractions since 3rd grade (ok 3 1/2 grade. It was second semseter). Don't they have calculators at SL? Can't they deal in percentages or decimals? 1/16? How the hell many is that?

I got this message last night (the 1/16th one) just as i was stepping aboard a spaceship. I thought it was a particularly witty joke on the part of the owner of the ship. I didn't realize til later, it wasan actual message from LL. :)

Quoting those that are worth the effort.........

Since there are a few that know how to talk without personal attack on people are the only ones worth quoting others are just a waste of time.........

Some believe they are everything on sl and the rest nothing..........Ok wonderful live your dream on sl. All they do is troll the forms and look at the bad side of the game and play stupid forum and blog game and (harrass people with their alts in game as well........)

I Enjoy this game to maxium i can and i still here right? So i love it here. so some remarks just don`t make sence..( I guess these people don`t read the whole story ).......

After 4 years seeing many thing and experiencing almost everything one can in that 4 span of life. I have felt burntout........sure i am human right? But I still here right? So either people stay or go.................I still here.........

Then again its thse that post on 3rd party second life sites neg, crying, ***** remarks why? Because to them this game is their whole meaning or their existance in living in real life.......

This poor guy that lost 2 years worth of land I do feel for and i heard story after story of these ssame types..

" Now that its going (semi) smoothly and things are back to normal saleswise, I still have a very strong bias against the Lindens and their level of incompetence so recently displayed"
Many feel the same............Some have left and then some have gone......You stayed :) You strong enought to withstand the BS as they saay how we as users on sl get ingored by the company we pay money to each month.....

I guess those that continue to think they are something special really need this game, its good they need it. I never played a online game in this mass before SL. The only reason why i stayed was for the interpersonal social structure.......If one has any background in RL about social interaction in a univerity Level Masters/PH.D This game is a never ending wave of data, learning and education.........

Thank you for reading,
