Do you shop with 'Busy' enabled?

I keep seeing people shopping with 'Busy' enabled. Does anyone enable 'Busy' while looking around and then disable it while buying something? Or are these all just accidents waiting to happen?

I only activate 'busy' when I'm AFK. It actually tells people.. 'away' mode seems useless to me.

And busy mode while shopping would end up disastrous for me..I'd never get anything O.o

Nah, I rarely use busy. When I do I am exactly that. :)

I don't think I've ever done anything (Busy) and I'm too active to go (AFK). If I'm after privacy or have better things to do... I log off. (=_=)y

If your in busy mode and you buy something, doesn't it just go to your trash? You could then drag it up into the appropriate folder. At least this works for notecards. lol

I seldom use busy for anything.

As for shopping I suck at it. Everything I pick out is usually ugly. That is why I wear the same clothes for days.

This has been said a few times, and last time I believe someone mentioned this happens only for copyable items (Or maybe it was transfer?). Otherwise it's gone forever or something.

I've no idea how accurate the above statement is, but be warned.

i have gone shopping numerous time in busy mode, normally when i have a ton of people that will not stop IM'ing me and i don't want to talk. I just drag the things i buy out of my trash, it has worked every time.

I have asked a few customers if they knew they had busy on when shopping, and usually they say "yes, some noob was harassing me so I put on busy to make them go away." Or something to that effect. I guess it's fine as long as they realize their deliveries will be auto rejected if they don't turn busy off.

Really it's the ones who accidentally mute that are the hardest to deal with. I wish LL would make a confirmation on muting. So many say they have no idea how I got muted, and are doing it accidentally somehow.

I use Busy mode speed teleporting around and shopping,
when I am not really "here" and suppose to be working irl.
For good measure I take that mode off when purchasing something.
I buy Demos in Busy and get them np.

yah That's me camped out at your very nice store, enjoying your atmo all "brbrbrb" :p

Well in the past few RCs a person who is muted shows up as a gray flat cutout of themselves and it also says 'muted' next to their name. Of course this doesn't help if the person has no clue on how to unmute you.

I have never really used busy mode. My interruptions are usually more important than what I am doing at the time.

I've been in busy mode when buying something from SLX, forgot I was in busy and I never got the item...not even in trash. I've never gone out shopping or anywhere with it on, usually only use it when I'm building or something similar.

Probably a stupid question, but just wanted to confirm...people can still send you L and pay you if have Busy Mode on, correct?

I have used Busy when sitting in my house and really AFK, but didn't want to log out. I have also used Busy during intimate moments.

In all cases, when you turn on Busy, you get a little pop-up box (unless you have turned that off) - I do not say okay to that box, but leave it on my window as a reminder that I am in Busy mode, only clicking okay on it just before turning Busy off.

Since there is so much uncertainty about what Busy does and doesn't do, I decided to go ahead and test it with myself and a victim.

I made two cubes, one each with next-owner no mod/no copy/xfer and no mod/copy/no xfer just to see if that made a difference.

Avatar-to-avatar transfers went into the trash when the receiver was in busy mode, every time. They went though normally when not in busy mode, every time.

OBJECT-to-avatar transfers were different. They disappeared completely when the receiver was in busy mode, every time. They went though normally when not in busy mode, every time.

For testing the object-to-avatar transfers, I used the simplest vendor ever:

CODE

default
{
touch_start(integer num_detected) {
key victim = llDetectedKey(0);
llGiveInventory(victim, "busy test copy");
llGiveInventory(victim, "busy test xfer");
llWhisper(0, "sent"); // just to make sure touch registered
}
}

For all these tests, we emptied our trash between each transfer to make sure there weren't duplicate copies to confuse things.

This will only affect _vendors_, that is, objects where you might use "pay", not things where you pick "buy".

It could be the store owner's fault as well. If they have one of those annoying "give inventory on arrival" scripties running people will see "Keep/Discard/Mute". If they press mute, the store owner is muted, not the object. They might not be aware, but the store owner should be.

LL adopted the proposed backwards method in 1.20 though: directly interacting with a resident will now automatically unmute them.

I don't have those, I agree they are annoying. Most often it happens when people are shopping at mall vendors. It's all well and good interacting directly removes the mute, but usually all I get is an IM from parts unknown. It often takes me awhile to figure out they can't see my IM replies. I usually have to have friends IM them on my behalf, but half the time they ignore IMs from some unknown person. It's all rather frustrating.

I have not put 'busy' on for many years. Nor do I intend to do so, unless it was a dire emergency (which I can not actually imagine, but who knows?)

Why? Because I make and sell things here, and so I feel very strongly that I should be accessable to cusomers and potential customers as much as possible.

If I am building, sure I am technically busy, but if a someone wants to ask me something then that is even more important. If I really had to say 'I will be happy to answer that for you, could you please give me a minute or two whilst I ......' then I will.

Ultimately though, if I want people to buy my products, then the least I can do is offer them the sort of customer service I would most like to receive myself.

So if you want me - HOOT!

Paying someone and IM'ing someone would count as "interaction" and would automatically unmute (or that was the original JIRA proposal anyway).

Another decision to change behaviour to suit the uninformed rather than fixing the actual problem :rolleyes:.

Hmm, well i guess i'll have to see if that is how it works. IMHO IMing someone you muted should be considered interaction, but I wasn't sure if that was meant, since you said 'direct interaction'. :)

I'm just using the wording of the original JIRA :).

Directly interacting with a muted resident should unmute them
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1735

(You could look at the patch to see what it considers interaction, or I'll have a peek at it in the morning :))

Looks like that's going to be a thing of the past soon. Directly interacting with someone will force an unmute (like.. PAYING THEIR VENDORS).

Edit: heh, didn't see page 2.

cool, this is exactly the fix needed. Now if they can just get 1.20 stable enough so people start using it ;P
