Hi SLers, I'm writing a paper for college, and I'm curious how you would express your views on dating and love in Second Life. Do you think its ridiculous, or do you believe it could actually happen? How about using SL as a "match making" social networking area to find true love? Any opinions would be great, even if you hate the idea, at least it gives me a general idea on what you all think. Thanks D

You have been misinformed. There is no dating and love at all in SL.
Pep (There is lots of sex though.)
PS Is this an anonymised LL PR initiative? The viability of using SL as a dating service was discussed recently - and broadly dismissed as it would require more real life information than would be safe for the participants.

It worked for me, I found my real life partner in SL.
P.S. Pep is technically correct, although maybe not psychologically.

It could happen, it has, but it can also be ridiculous, disasterous even. As far as using SL or any online venue to find a mate...nope. Not interested.

It's nice to see Computer Games 101 is still a popular course of study in Colleges.
Who needs political science, economics, or business administration anyway?

You could just search this forum for "love", "relationships", "dating", and find many threads on the topic.
Actually, looking for something along the line of "guys suck" and "scumbag" would probably give you some good threads too.

From: Dekka Raymaker I think she is speaking pyschologically? "I" think she's speaking obscurely and without a coherent line of thought. Wait, did I say that out loud?

PS Sorry Arielyn; I'm stumped too, as you can see. Well I'm saying its not like you log on, ask random people to partner you and go on with your day, people usually take months to make that choice. I'm asking why would someone partner and date on SL to begin with. I'm not saying its a good or bad thing to do, I'm just curious as to why. And obviously I have not partnered up with anyone on SL, but many use SL as a dating venue, such as AvMatch.com and other random dating sites connecting to SL to meet other avs to date in SL, and into RL eventually.

No time for pixel sex between rounds, then by the time it's all over, I've usually lost the notecard where I kept the names of those I wanted to try LATER. Waste of time I say.

And it is going to happen even more. That is the crowd LL wants in SL in a big way. Personally, I think you need to do a lot of work if you want a RL romance from SL. There are so many traps and pitfalls. I guess if you find your soul mate it is worth it, but not for me.
