well i just want to inform all that recently my account (using SL name, arjuna nirvana) has been disabled from facebook. it seems that facebook will removed all fake account, since they say that SL name is a fake name. here is the reply i've got when sending a question to ask why my account got disabled

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Arjuna,

Facebook accounts are meant for personal, authentic usage only and should reflect mainly your "real-world contacts." As such, fake accounts are a violation of our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. This includes accounts that exist solely for the usage of third-party gaming applications, as well as users that maintain multiple accounts to gain an unfair advantage in these applications.

While we realize that certain third-party applications might encourage users to create multiple accounts, send out form messages, or make posts on other users' Walls, we cannot make exceptions to the policies we have in place.

Please be aware that we take the appropriate action on any violations we encounter. If there are any accounts like this on the site currently, it is only because they have not yet been removed.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to reactivate this account for any reason. This decision is final.

Thanks for your understanding,

Marissa

Yep..they've realised that it's pointless trying to data mine a group of avatars, or advertise rl products to it.

This has come up before, and will be more frequent since SL is trying to "hook up" more closely with FaceBook.

Everyone who gets one of these little messages from FaceBook should copy it and MAIL it along with a short cover letter to Linden Lab. Ask them why they're getting in bed with a company that won't even let Second Life residents have an account there under their avatar's name.

Here's the mailing address:

Mr. Mark Kingdon, CEO
Linden Lab
945 Battery Street
San Francisco, CA 94111

Facebook is for real-world identities, I thought that was its strength, as well as its weakness.

For Facebook members who want to link their RL identities to their SL presence, a link up with SL is fine. But the other way round, where an anonymous avatar wants a presence in Facebook....err...no!

What we could do with, though, is a message board service a bit like Facebook but just for SL, using our avatar names - one that could be accessible in-world AND via the net. That could even be something for LL and Facebook to collaborate over!

Why not, Conifer? I have a MUCH greater online presence as Lindal than as my RL identity. If I'm public, on the web, I wanna do it as me, Lindal. Not that I want a FaceBook account myself, I'm happy sticking with SL.

But, on principle, I say EQUAL RIGHTS FOR AVATARS!!!!

A Euro SL user did go through teh effort to make such a site

http://secondfacebook.ning.com/

I like it for the working event calendar and the photo wall. Registration is free.

Facebook is offline right now so I canot acces my RL or SL Facebook page. I made attempts to link them. I confirmed as much info as possible and have made Facebook purchases using my SL Facebook account.

Anyone have the e-mail or number to Facebook Customer Service please pass it on. Thanks.

I wasn't trying to make a moral judgement here, I was just pointing out that Facebook say they exist for people openly using their real identies, so it's not suprising if they don't want aliases. There was a case recently of a girl in Australia who had an unusual real name and Facebook blocked her from joining because it wouldn't 'believe' her name was real!

I really don't see the problem with facebook allowing account verified avatars to have a facebook page, other than Facebook being determined to prove people shouldn't have privacy.

Mine came back - but I suspect they will eventually deliver the coup de grĂ¢ce. I may be getting past their censors because I have a cell number listed and verified.

I first heard rumours of this over a year ago.

I made an account as spinster to get access to two photos a friend said I could have and have regretted it ever since. I hate how it goes through all your email contacts and suggests them as friends. I hate the competitive "I've got more friends than you" culture. I hate how otherwise sane people from all areas of my life suddenly start bombarding me with jokey spam. I hate getting emails saying "so-and-so has sent you a message on facebook - log in ..." when they have my email address anyway. Most of all, I hate how you can deactivate an account, but never quite delete it. I guess I just don't "get" it

If they are finally getting round to implementing this then good. Perhaps they'll delete my account properly once they realise it's junk data.

hmmm ... wonder if I should warn my cat? She has 114 friends who'll be very disappointed ...

You mean like profile pages you can see on the web also?

http://world.secondlife.com/resident/1a5d7439-5915-4d1f-bb06-022e348cb81a

All that's needed is to add the friends list widget and a way to send IMs to that page, and there you have it. You can *already* see any web page from within the SL viewer. Oh, and maybe use your actual avatar name instead of UUID for the page address, but all the pieces are there, it just needs putting together.

Well, my avi's FB page is still up. Hope it stays there: I'm in the midst of a frenzied snowball fight with Deira there!

Argent is a real world identity. I have been Argent online since the early '80s. Argent is no more anonymous than "Sting".

What's the average lifespan of a ferret anyway?

Not long. A three year old ferret is "old".

They should just have left out everything technical this guy tried to explain. Like, the difference between a compiled language and a scripted language. Oh god, the stupidity burns...

Getting a FB account for my avatar has given me a chance to see what an insipid waste of time that place is without having to put up any real info.. If anyone from FB is reading, please feel free to delete my account. I'm too lazy to go and cancel it. I don't plan on going back to it ever again.

Sure. Except for the snowball fight application. Right?
