Does anyone remember desert boots? They are a soft suede man's shoe that might be made by Hush Puppy? Do you know where I can buy them for someone as a gift? TIA

Gaaaaa I hope you're talking SL here ... this isn't PayLess.
![]() Um, my first stop would be shoe stores. There's quite a lot of them inworld. No, I don't happen to know off hand - but I remember them, if you find them let me know. ![]() _____________________

Men's shoes: The single most worse made items in all of sl. There is nothing in sl that surpasses men's shoes as the worse item there.
Either the shoes are exceptionally large making the wearer look like a clown or the shoes look like the left one should be on the right foot and the right one on the left foot. Or /and the shoes are tiny where you look like you've had your feet amputated. How many times haven't you seen a guy wearing shoes that just don't look right? Shoes that aren't equivalent to their body? Their feet get to where they're going a few minutes before they do. They look ridiculous and at times you see them in formal wear with these same contraptions they call shoes making them look so goofy and dorky. There are very few and I mean f-e-w shops that have shoes that actually look good. By personal experience, I've brought and then deleted so many different pairs of sneakers, shoes, both casual and formal as well as boots that I've lost count. And I've done this from shoes purchased in many of the shops mentioned in these forums through out the 2 plus years I've been here. The shoe ads look great but when you buy and try them on you know you just can't wear something that's so badly made. If you find a shop that has well made shoes then consider yourself lucky, cause they're far and few. I have. But only after wasting time and money going thru' half the junk being passed off as shoes out there. Men's shoes: The single most worse made items in all of sl. |

How many times haven't you seen a guy wearing shoes that just don't look right? How many times have I not seen a guy wearing shoes that just do not look right? All the time. But then I do not normally look at feet. The feet in SL are ugly and disgusting and make dolphins cry. _____________________

My pet peeve here is that so many men's shoes are no-mod, and the smallest men's shoes in most stores are just laughably huge on me. (I will just mention that Calveen's shoes are mod perm, and they're the only dress shoes I've found that work for me. Some mod-perm grungy work boots from Renegade are good, too.)
Now I just refuse to buy *anything* from a store that sells no-mod shoes. They care so little about their customers that they expect me to change shape to fit their shoes. It's like foot-binding in reverse. ![]() _____________________

A quick follow up... I found 3 pairs of shoes for my friend that I'm very happy with, two of them are from Hoorenbeek's, some very spiffy high top sneaks and a handsome pair of dockers, they are well made and not clunky looking at all, http://slurl.com/secondlife/JT%20World%20VI/143/17/23 (I had never heard of this place and their men's stuff is very nice... I bought a fatpack of polos and a fatpack of cords too!) I also bought him the pair of desert boots from Maitreya's that Max mentioned and got myself the girly edition, I love them! http://slurl.com/secondlife/Glam%20World%202/201/224/25

The Chucks at Urban Bomb Unit are my favourite shoe in SL. There are endless colour / fabric permutations, plus they are resized via menu. And the detail is exquisite.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Obviously, you can choose to make yourself look ludicrous by fiddling with the menu (as above), but the number of combinations is endless* *statement may be less than mathematically precise, for any pedants out there ![]() _____________________

Oh, right: I remember Hoorenbeek. That place had great promise, I thought, until I discovered their shoes were no-mod. Another shop crossed of the list completely.
Just tried Maitreya. Same results. The female version *almost* works. The male, of course, looks like I'm wearing clown shoes. Didn't bother to fully rez Shiny Things: everything I saw was no-mod. JCS (Jeepers Creepers)--nice shoes, but same problem. They do take returns graciously, though, which I know from past futile attempts. I swear, these accursed cobblers have wasted so much of my time (and before I knew better, my L$s) with this no-mod prim paranoia, if they get copybotted, I'm not gonna feel the least little bit sorry for them. And if one of these stores ever sees the light, I'll sing their praises from the rafters--and probably buy everything in the store. _____________________

My pet peeve here is that so many men's shoes are no-mod... prim-grey shoes available in all sizes for L$0. You try them on and find the size you like. Then you Buy a fully textured one in the correct size. too complicated? _____________________

One of the problems I see with both men's shoes and women's too, sometimes, is that the two shoes in the pair are not mirror images of each other, but identical, and are only assigned the designation of left and right foot rather than actually being left and right shoes.
It looks very odd. Is there a technical reason for this? |

what if a shoe store offered "no mod" shoes in different sizes, just like RL. What I'm envisioning is something like this: prim-grey shoes available in all sizes for L$0. You try them on and find the size you like. Then you Buy a fully textured one in the correct size. too complicated? Some do, Vampaerus...I cannot recall where, but the shoes came in S,M, and L sizes... |

i am the bootaholic ![]() As for me, I just wish I could find a bootmaker in SL to make the pair of boots for me inworld that I've been drooling over in RL. Take a look at these and tell me they're not the hottest boots ever: ![]() I get tingly every time I look at 'em ![]() P.S. Hope those links work. Only just found out about the img trick to get them to show up... |

Try Nevermore Studios, in Sovereign Crux. They have gorgeous dollfie boots in male and female (moddable, too) for about 250L per pair (last time I looked). The 'Exalted' style that I'm currently wearing have amazing prim chain details.
