millie...if you are wanting to learn about gor, i would first suggest going into cities, ooc (out of character). look around. listen...find one that you feel comfortable with. Join as a city slave, and get the training.

Mikal Snakeankle is the Head Slaver at Thentis. He also runs a training school. He does have a FreeWoman that works with Him, also, if you are "worried" about serving under a male.

Tis always a good thing to learn, and observe, before jumping in with both feet...not everyone was as lucky to get a Master, such as mine (21 months now!).

Also, join the group "Gorean Slaves"...support group for us kajira to speak together.

Hi Mille

I used to be a Free Woman(FW) in Gor, but I'm almost out of it. I can just say the same as the others - find a city you like, and who offer slave training and education.

As a slave, you can basically kneel to any free person, male or female, and beg for their collar. You should know the person before you do, so to be a city slave and look around for a Mistress is the best.

To find a panther tribe is also a good idea, but I stayed true to the Gorean idea of a FW and didn't go into the forrests. I don't know much about panthers, but it's the same there.... find a well established tribe who you like.

Think about timezones too, so you aren't alone a lot of the time. If you are europeean, like me, many places with lots of americans feel empty mon-fri because we aren't inworld the same time. Same the other way around.

Free Women live in the cities, panthers are runaway slaves or FW. They live in the forrest, as hunters and should not seek cities.... but most panthers do, because they will play "capture games" with the men. There are also outlaws and mercenaries, and some allow women in their groups.

There ar as many ideas about how Gor should be and not be, and so many sims that claim they are the "only right Gor".

But yes, it's basically male dominated, and the Free Woman who own you could be captured and collared herself. If you are just looking for a D/s relationship, maybe Gor isn't right for you. Depends if you want the Roleplay part of it, and then Gor can be a interesting RP experience.

While Gorean culture is undeniably male dominated and misogynistic in nature it's a fictional culture. Further Second Life "Gorean" cultures don't necessarily parallel the Gorean culture of John Norman in every aspect. It's also roleplay and therefore is not necessarily reflective of the true attitudes and beliefs of those who engage in it anymore than someone who roleplays in a game playing a nefarious assassin believes it is alright to go around killing innocent people for money. Not my cup of tea but I hope the OP can find her niche in a Gorean RP sim.

Mille, I would suggest the Panther tribes in Iaomai... its a good place to learn in a relatively safe environment.

I forgot the name but there's a panther tribe in Holmesk that's pretty cool. And they've built a beautiful compound too, very realistic.

Contact Robin Linden.

ROFL!

To the OP: Read the books, or at least try to wade through the first one. Get an idea of what you're getting into. Some SL Gor communities adhere strictly to the books, and others play loose... decide which you'd prefer.

Hi Mille :)
<snip>
My BEST recommendation is to go to Iaomai. They are very friendly and welcoming and will give a tour to you of their sim.

This gave me a chuckle - friendly and welcoming slavers - I'll just bet they are :-p

You know, that the best advice i've seen. Get to know the person IC and OOC first. Dont toss yourself at the first person you see...

Some people are amazing RPers who stay in character the entire time they are online, but 95% of us slip in and out (depending on how much wine we drink while playing SL) and its good to be able to have a good relationship / friendship on both levels .

Iaomai is a bit different than some of the SL Gorean RP sims in that they are 100% consensual. They forbid forced capture, collar, do not participate in "killing" etc. It was established as a place people could come to learn about Gor and D/s in a safe environment and they have one of the largest/well-known training schools of its type in SL.

So yes, they are sincerely welcoming. (There are no "slavers" in Iaomai to my knowledge.)

But noby ever seems to want to even talk to me. I know of others that have the same problem. dont they like other people or what ?.

I might be stupid (by standart) but where do one start as both a Free woman or a Kajira ?

Take off the observer tag, walk around in and start talking to people. Soon enough they'll say something like "Who do you belong to?" and if you start smarting off to them eventually they'll collar you and make you a slave whether you like it or not.

Mwahhhh, that'd be the day. Oh man, I'd be ejected and banned from these RP places faster than I could say "just try it, buddy".

Saw some leather-strapped cro-magnon on a beach the other day. His tag said "All Gor bitches are my bitches" or some idiocy like that. I was sorely tempted to deliver a swift slap on the back of the head to that one, but he was busy shopping for speedos so I let him be.

I used to feel like that, but nowadays I've mellowed. I usually sell them a better crawling animation.

Well, you have to make allowances for them - reading John Norman destroys brain cells.

If you are looking for Gor- SL is not where to "take it seriously". If you are looking for D/s stuff search like that- if you want to know about Gor- search outside of SL..

And while the actual books leave much to be desired literary wise- it is the best start to figure out if it is what you want. Since you are looking for a Mistress - I don't really think Gor is for you.

I have a hard time taking you "seriusly", "to". Learn to spell, learn the difference between "to", "too", and "two", and you will be taken much more seriously.

And the suggestion to look for a mistress outside of Gor is a good one. Gor is a *male* dominated society. A mistress is sort of against the Natural Order of Things, as they see it.

My kajiru (male slave) RP did not last very long. :(

*giggles at the furry ferret comment* That would not make it past lunch... yes you would be the lunch. Yumm.

As a furry I had to modify my profile back when I was exploring Gor.

I would suggest playing a Free at first and then become a city slave for a while.
Once you earn your silks you can be sold to a FW(Free Woman).

Just be ready to learn a lot of descriptive writing as a "drink serve" can take a lot of lines of text describing your curves and how they look by the fire as you deliver the drink.

Serving a Mistress can be a lot of work as well as you have to wash dishes, clean, and do lots of chores.

serve with fire little one.

Wow, this is incomprehensible to me. Of course, it has been a year since I was last in Gor, but if you wish to start as a Kajira, it used to be simple:

> Look like a Kajira
--- silks
--- long hair, preferably not blonde, & loose
--- darkish skin
--- slender
--- respectable, but not too fancy, skin

> Kneel (nadu) near the outer gates of a Gorean sim.

> Read the notecard on Karjira conduct for that sim and follow it.

> Do not wear an observer tag.

Personally, I would stay clear of merchant slavers, but that's just my preference.

If you enjoy risk at all, then go to a slave auction.

Try to join a sim where they speak your native language. There are several non-English speaking sims. If English IS your native tongue, then brush up on your grammar and spelling -- Gor is intensely verbal!

Good luck and have fun! IMHO, Gor is SO not worth it if you don't find some fun.

Hi, Mille - From your profile it looks like you found a mistress today. Good luck.

I also noted in the 1st Life tab of your profile that you are a "31 Y.O. Male From Denmark." That might explain some of the trouble you had getting people to interact with your female avatar. It's something of a specialized situation many Goreans might have trouble adjusting to. :)

Hope you have fun learning about Gorean roleplay.

yes your are right i was collar yesterday, by a Free Women, a sweet and kind too.

On the Male part, i did not put that in before 3 dayes ago, i dont think that is the problem.
According to Discovery Channels 82% of all males Playing a MMORPG play a female Avatar.
According to Linden Labes about 50% og all Avatars are females.
Meaning that about 45 % of all the Female Avatars in the game are a man playing a female.
I dont find it wird to play a female avatar, this is a RP game.

Yes i know lose numbers, but it still makes you think.

Thanks you for all the good sugestions.

You know, Lindal, I've been in RP communities and NEWER had a snappy remark on my spelling. In intense RP, it's speedtyping and even people who I know well, and I know their grammar is 100% correct in other situations, type wrong.

The human brain has a way to correct minor misspelling like this. Personally, I prefer people who's 1st language isn't english and that try to make an effort and spell whole words. The native english speaker often type: "wtf u gona do 2mrw?".....

“You can't help respecting anybody who can spell TUESDAY, even if he doesn't spell it right; but spelling isn't everything. There are days when spelling Tuesday simply doesn't count.”
Winnie the Pooh

I have that quote on my 1st life page

But, Marianne...this is a forum, not a hot RP session. There's time to spell it right.

Regardless, my apologies for sniping at spelling and grammar. I try to be tolerant, but words are my business and my recreation, and sometimes the mangling of them gets under my skin.

Yes, the non-english speakers often do have better english than native speakers. When they DO make an error, it is always understandable, and usually rather charming...a sort of "foreign accent" in print.

The younger generation is the worst, as you point out. (Hey, you kids! Git off my porch!) I blame the modern Public Education System. We should have stuck with "teachers", and never let an "Educator" anywhere near a position of authority.

I don't know about the Discovery Channel statistic. It sounds bogus to me...besides, SL is a game that has appeal for women, while most other MMORPGs appeal more to men.

A survey quoted in the "Official Guide to Second Life" found that about 20% of male players used a female avatar, and about 6-7% of female players used a male avatar. My own experience suggests that these numbers are closer to the real state of affairs.
