How will the newly applied VAT tax affect you?

Have just sold off 1024m tonight.
Will wait and see what it means in terms of the SL economy and costs.
Will wait and see if some of my favorite UK based sims pack up.
Will wait and see if LL actually got the VAT laws right in the first place (have registered questions with HMRC).
Will also wait and see how ID affects SL.
But ...
It is becoming less and less fun...

For those who are tiering down, I wouldn't mind hearing, if you don't mind saying, how many m2 you were at and how many you're planning on going to.
I split a private island with two friends, both of whom are in the EU (I'm in the US). One of the folks in the EU is the de-facto island owner since only one person can really 'own' an island.

I don't know if they're aware of this situation yet (they don't log in much any longer due to RL concerns) - I've left messages. When I can get hold of them we'll discuss things. The current pricing (we were at the USD$195 price) was _just_ low enough where it was worthwhile to have an island as a fun place to hang out and have fun, terraform, build, etc.

This may put things over the edge. If it does... essentially, we were at 65,536 sq/m and we'll be tiering down to zero.

I don't know if this is a unique situation... I suspect not, however.

Well, I had a place in 1/4 of a sim and rented out the other half to cover tier. Now I'll be going from $150/month (Splitting tier costs through using an alt) to zero.

I just barely scraped by with the monthly sales I made ... a sudden 20% cost increase pushes me over the edge.

I'm at $15 tier, but after trying to get rid of enough prims to tier down I just let it be-not worth the effort. It's just the principle that bothers me. Oh, and I have to pay 19% VAT, not 17.5.....

I think that as much as anything. it is the way this has been handled by LL. We surely should have been entitled to a month's notice and by now have a blog about it. Instead, they have squeezed more money out of people by releasing islands in record time, knowing full well that the EU residents would be hit with this tax. It's a shabby way to do business.

After more than 3 years in SL, I have seen LL do some stupid things, but recently they have shown that they really don't give a damn about the residents and it saddens me to remember how it used to be.
