I'm ageist in SL. I ignore (not mute) most of those who speak in txt, which tends to set the bar at a certain age - or is it intelligence? I also wonder why single 20somethings are spending any significant time in sl rather than being "out there". As for married 20somethings . . . why aren't they making babies? . Actually, I don't bump into them very often and don't hang around very long when I do. I much prefer the 30/40somethings who have some sort of reason for being here, as well as the ability to communicate. It helps to have some connection regarding the mutual culture, although the existence of progeny tends to update you on contemporary trends whether you like it or not! Pep (I tend to stay away from females who are looking for father figures; sorry, Jig. )

From: Jig Chippewa How do you help people in sl who may be older than yourself, lonely, confined, or disabled in any way? I don't ask them about their RL and let them be who they want to be in SL, and I hope they will do the same for me. If RL conversations come up and I find out those kind of things, I still let them be who they want to be in SL. After all, most of us are in SL to relax and do/be things we cannot in RL, including me.

From: LittleMe Jewell It is really a lot of fun. My mom and I were not close for many years, but we are now and I like sometimes chatting in SL with her. We do almost nothing together in SL - we have totally separate circles of friends and activities. However, even after being here more than a year, I am still often telling her some of the same simple things over and over again - but I don't really mind. *LOL* Had to laugh at this, because you do the same thing with me, and I'm probably not your mom's age, but I am always asking you, Lil, how did you tell me to do this, *again*? lol You have the patience of a saint.......

From: Jig Chippewa Well Lol "pop diva with a navel"!! LOL! Glad I gave you a chuckle, Jig. I am familiar with a few of those pop people you listed and will check out the others. Of course, I wasn't much into pop back in my day either. I was just trying to show the cultural gap of the different generations.

Way way back when I was first looking at careers, I contemplated being a teacher. I absolutely loved school and many of my teachers were the best people in my life. Somewhere along the line, my financial practical mind took over and reminded me that teachers will never be paid what they are worth -- and so ultimately I went for computers.

I don't have gray hair, but, I'm so over being called "hun" and "dear" by people I just met! Especially since it so often seems to be a not so polite replacement for something much less polite. Lol.

ummm. no thanks. that gay music is for teenagers From: Jig Chippewa Well Pop Culture is never "new" but more a contination of yesterday and day before. Lol "pop diva with a navel"!! LOL! Check out Lady Gaga. Also listen to come decent Coldplay - "Viva La Vida" maybe. BBC Radio 1 is a gentle way for "uninitiated" to experience pop - you can hear it on web. Try Snow Patrol or Lily Allen or The Killers. Lotsa choices. Or even more classically inclined like Sons de la Frontera (recent Spanish flamenco group) or some World Fusion. Never turn your back on what is new or exciting. The passport/visa control for enjoying modern pop culture is not stamped with "date expired". Seriously, one of my friends who is a really old man is truly swiched on to pop and attendant culture values. Young people dont bite.

well normally i don't ask about anyone's age unless they mention it first, as i think we all came here for an escape mostly, for all i know, men could be women here and vice versa, so who cares about the age, most of us look like we are in our twenties anyways, hehehe....

Except the one Weston mentioned. Though I think it is Lady Gaga that keeps wanting to ride my disco stick. Over and over again I hear this in sims. Otherwise have not heard of her. Nor know if she is real outside of SL, though I assume so.

You are not the first member of the legal profession to deny knowledge of purveyors of contemporary music.
