i don't post in ehre much, but im really fed up with rebooting, only to find out that they have postponed logins temporarily... i understand that they mi9ght need to do this.. but WHY can't they put up a warning inworld jsut before they do it, so that people know if they attempt to reboot, they wont get back in? it's sooo annoying.

I got a warning from the forum cartel group, I agree it would be nice if the Linden's issued them!
Hopefully it won't be off for long.

My guess is because they're doing it reactively and probably in a panic state over grid conditions. (T_T)

From what I've seen, those blue boxes can take a long way to propagate around the grid, others might say "oh what's this?" a half hour before or after I get mine. Those login restrictions can be started and ended in that much time, so telling us that way might just confuse everyone.

We seem to be back to the days of daily grid issues resulting in logins being temporarily disabled. I am currently going on the assumption that it will happen again at any minute and I'll continue that thought process until we get back to be able to go many many days without the issues.

For goodness sake, are you really asking them to end an age old tradition and start communicating with us? Ever since SL began it has been the Lindens' way to do these things without warning us. I assume they get pleasure from knowing how frustrated it makes us. Typical, now someone wants to come along and ruin the tradition and spoil their fun.

I remember when LL used to warn us that logins were disabled in-world.

They still SOMETIMES send a message about not doing inworld transactions and such cuz the databases are borked.

From: Briana Dawson Uhm.
I remember when LL used to warn us that logins were disabled in-world. And to not futz with our inventories in any way. But then, we were lucky to hit 6k concurrency too, and it wasn't an uncommon thing to see a Linden hanging out at the welcome area or sandboxes. Back when they, you know, did communicate with us. It is irking to not be able to check the status from the client or have it pop up when the status of the grid changes.

How about wouldn't it be nice if SL's entire communication system was based on irc. "but then it would have to be centralized!" So, plenty of irc networks support tens of thowsands of users.

LL must have read this thread. I've received TWO inworld 'blue flag' warnings in the space of half an hour:
[17:44] Teagan Linden: There are currently gridwide issues - please check secondlife.com/status for details.
[18:12] Second Life: There are currently gridwide issues - please check secondlife.com/status for details.

Too often of late, when things are going wrong on the grid, you get a blue pop-up notice that's just blank. Has the usual button to click for it to go away, but no info.
It would be extremely nice if they could figure out how to make notifications work when there are problems, for one thing, and secondly, to actually use them regularly when there is trouble. I'm not at all convinced they make regular use of in-world notification anymore.

I remember hearing at one time that on weekends the people who can suppsodily issue those blue drop downs are not there and the people working get access denied when trying to make them. time to change the internal permissions then.

Hey, I realized something that might be a nice addition to the client's login screen... Instead of Grid Status.. How about Login Status? Grid's almost never down any more, but logins are. It'd just be a nice warning for those of us trying to log in.

They used to have something that said logins were restricted, what happened to that? Not good PR?

I just love it when you try to login and get message "Logins disabled........check the status page". So like a good SL resident I checkout the status page and find the latest entry is 12+ hours old and says everthing is fine. [RESOLVED 8:01 pm PST] All login issues have been resolved and functionality has been restored. SL is obvious aware of the current problem. Is having someone take two minutes to actually update the status page asking too much? To be fair I will have to say that SL today is a vast improvement over what is was when I started in 2006. Although for the last few weeks things have certainly taken a turn for the worse.
