Well there goes my "SL created male Nekos" theory . NOW I'm just curious how the legends & stories got from a "Lucky Cat", to a hybrid. But that's fr me ta research one day when I'm real bored, and not on this forum... Gotta love folks actually takin the time to support thier argument w/ FACTs. It looks like what happens, is as time goes along, the "subculture" kinda picks up lil influences from here & there, and evolves... like I really do see the "SL Grunge Nekos" as thier own thing. Well, I guess you've never been to my land in Moran, then... but I'm usually up at my workshop around 600m, not down at ground level.

Just tonight, I was doing some work on the ground level and someone I'd never seen before popped in, said hi, then, "Ooooh! He's got a tail! Shall I pull it?"

So I guess more than one person is surprised when they run across a catboi.

Oh, and despite what some have noted up above, I am male, straight... and spoken for.

What seem to cause all the confusion are the three sources for the word 'neko' in Japanese. Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

Neko = cat
Nekomimi = Cat Ears = catgirl (figurative)
Nekomusume = Cat Daughter = catgirl (literal)

Yes, 'neko' for male does sometimes mean the passive in a gay male relationship. Yes, there are very few male neko in anime or manga. But it doesn't mean there are no literal cat-boys, or that they're all gay.

In SL, loads of guys want to be cat-boys. There exists a term almost universally used for cat-girls that means "cat" in Japanese. Why not use it for cat-boys too? I suppose we could go to neko-chan (f) & neko-kun (m), although that might be considered over familiar (and I don't know how grammatically correct).

Oh, and I'm as puzzled as anyone else why so many neko of both genders follow the urban grunge style. Where are the sleek & wild jungle cats in skimpy fur loincloths? Wow, did it just get warm in here?

A final gripe: Japanese nouns do not take an 's' in the plural. One neko, two neko, many neko. The same with katana, kimono, gi, kamikaze or any of the other words we borrow.

I don't have pics of them, but there's got to be a fair number of male nekos out there. I got a lot of requests to make male versions of my neko skins (esp the tiger) and they sell well enough. I expect other people who sell neko body stuff see the same thing.

Well part of the reason so few tribal/wild nekos is most of the sims dont' have rules to integrate them in.

Some of the fantasy ones are now working it out (especially with CCS and others having Neko attributes and races set up)

But they are out there... and more than capable of handling themselves (know one who's first question after getting her avatar was "can I get a heavy arm's gundam type weapon kit?" )

Neko follow rules? What put that crazy idea in your head?! (o.o)

MANifesto is full of hot male nekos, gay & bi. I've noticed most aren't straight, not sure why. I'm also neko but very female =)

More the if it isn't cannon by the sim rules we will ban them type rules get followed

...anyway this list really broadens the "definition" of Neko for me...according to this, even characters like The Black Panther would be Neko! The Thundercats? Never thought of them like that.

In SL though, if any of these copyright characters were just a Resident-created avatar though...I guess they WOULD be called Neko in-world.
