SL has a huge "Neko Culture" or population, whatever folks wanna call it. It pretty much has it's own subculture too judging by products marketed as "Neko products"; usually they're a cross between grunge, punk rock, post-apocalyptic and something close to furry. (drinking mouse cocktails, batting around mouse toys, eating catnip, etc.
I remember hearin' a while back that there's no such thing as a male Nekos. Supposedly male Nekos are a phenonmenon pretty much exclusive to SL, and they don't "exist" in Japanese fiction or legends. So ...how do they reproduce? Male Nekos are all over the place in SL. Do any "Manga Nerds" have an answer?

i haven't seen any other than in SL really now that you mention it..but then again japan is only one place..maybe the SL neko's are a different breed and the japan nekos sneak in here looking for male nekos get preggers then go back to japan neko life saying .oh my another immaculate conception!! =)

Yeah! Where are they? My alt has been prowling, and other than seeing one in a video fashion show, has yet to actually come across one in SL. when i came into sl it was with like 8 other people and most turned neko..a few of them were guys..then they kind of drifted off into their own neko world with their friends they met there..so where they are now i don't know but they are out there somewhere gettign their neko on hehehe _____________________

I'm kinda seein it as "oversaturated" too...but I can see a lotta folks wantin' to be "cat-people". This year is the Year Of The Rat on the Calendar, and I sent out a lotta free gifts, and made an av for sale cheap just for the occasion, and I have seen more Nezumis ("rat-people) comin' out of the woodwork (pun intended) this year. Mostly all hybrid Nezumis, like the Nekos. Supposedly "FULL" Nekos and Nezumis can transform into actual "house hold" 4-legged cat or rat/mouse (the word Nezumi is interchangable for both rats and mice) forms. Hooevah dey wuz... dey LIED 2 yu! Wow. I think that's the first one I have seen outside of SL...what movie/series is he from? There are very definitely male nekos interested in making kittens, and we don't need restraining. I am one occassionally, and used to be one all the time (a neko that is, I'm still male, although the vet may have ideas about that). |

Doesn't mean it's not right more often than wrong, mind you, but hey - let's not presume. Just ask. I've also noticed the trend for nekos of both genders to be goth, industrial, grunge types. The males more often than the females, for that matter. But by no means are all of them - or perhaps even a majority - of that school. Many are just fun-loving people who like to act - er, catish. Oh, and Nekomimi means "Cat Ears", and does not have a gender connotation built in. |

The ones that I have met & found out they were gay, was because they IMed me somethin about how "hot" my av was & "could we go somewhere more private big fella", etc. No assumptions, just like in RL. I figure all gay ppl got a right to be gay, male or female, just like I got a right ta be black, obsessed w/ heavy music, be it crunk, industrial or metal, motorcycles, biker jackets, etc. Hey, it ain't like I'm gonna get raped on a pool table, so who cares if a guy is gay, not me. People are people. Yeah, I have noticed about a kinda... "steampunk" parrellel, subculture-wise, for example: most of the younger Nekos I run into, like all the punk rock, grimy, bloody attachments w/ a dark sense of humor, and it seems like the rest of the Nekos just like bein' a hybrid without the furry stigma...or they just wear the ears & tail like costume pieces. In steampunk, I have noticed a similar trend, with grungy, rusty, post-apocalyptic-style salvage gear, versus victorian wear and horses. I guess when it comes down to it SL has it's own set of subcultures. Even Gorean RPers can attest to that. willing to do my part in bringing more hybrids into the world LOL...I prefer rat hybrids, but maybe that's somethin' ta do w/ my childhood <_< >_> <_< _____________________
