LL's VAT number has been published in the KB article referenced in the intial blog post all along and it's something that came up on the forums two times at least as well.

As far the refund for mainland owners goes, they said that'll happen automatically during the course of this month so there's no need to file a ticket over it.

(Gooooo Nina as well :p)

LL have just billed me for a mainland sim I already paid for 3 weeks ago. They then realised their mistake and refunded my the cost, but forgot to refund me the VAT they charged on it. Slightly ironic as VAT wasn't even applicable at the time I bought the sim...

I think Karma might be a better word to have used here.

There's about as much chance of getting your VAT back as if you asked for it back from an RL D.I.Y. or furniture store after buying goods there!!! After all, VAT isn't exactly discretionary on the part of the purchaser or the seller.

If he's been charged VAT on mainland tier he should get it back.

Weird. My mother has said that exact same thing about me and numerous girls many times over the years (no doubt secretly hoping I'll turn my back on Canal Street in favour of Woo-Woo Avenue), and she's name Brenda too. :p

I believe this is correct based on the following statement by Zee Linden ..

http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/10/04/vat-are-you-talking-about

From: someone
"And finally, some residents have noted that Mainland Maintenance fees are charged in arrears. To lessen the burden, and to provide Mainland residents with some additional notice, we will be not be passing on the VAT charge until October 27th for mainland maintenance fees."

Mainland maintenance fees = what we call tier, right?

The fee listed on my account page (due to be collected October 14th) still has the VAT included. I'll wait til the 14th and see what's actually taken from my credit card before raising a ticket.

On a bright note, my ISP has just dropped my monthly broadband charge from £24 to £18 per month. Not bad at all for a reliable, uncapped 24Mbps service. What the internet gods take away with one hand, they return with the other .. I guess. :p

Mine is due today and I've had a support ticket raised since the end of September about it.

I am telling you what i am going to do since the fees still contains the VAT .

I will not let them charge me the VAT, even if they try.
I deleted my cc info from my account, i have only paypal info but i reduced the amount they can charge my paypal account to 0 (you do this through paypal) and i will convert into US$ only the tier fees amount but without the VAT. If for any reason they will try to bill me also the VAT , then bingo. They will not be able. That's the only thing I could do to protect myself from false charging.

Um, expect to be locked out of your account for a few days.

Unfair, sure. But if they can't collect the amount they want to collect, that's what happens.
