Sorry to hear this Deira...Only way to make sure you're not blocked is to buy an unblockable parcel though... I would say AR if it is clearly a violation... but talking to the person first would be nice... This probably will not solve your problem...even if they move, something bigger and uglier might get built there.. unless you buy it from them.

Jig said she deleted her own gallery after that business about being ARed, but the land was in a PG sim wasn't it? I reckon that AR was just malicious but she was still breaking the PG rules. Whether we feel it's a silly rule when we're all grown-ups is another issue.

Since you say that this new gallery is on Mature, I can't really see that you'd have much of a case for an AR if all the build is on the owner's land. I understand the new rules allow galleries in Mature sims to show artistic nudes (but not what would be considered pornography).

Lots of RL art and galleries could be called sexist ( and probably have) if you considered their preponderance of female naked forms. ;)

I must first thank Deira for mentioning me - I didnt realize this was being discussed. Just in answer to your comment, the art that I displayed and that was actually removed (!) were photographs of Jane Birkin from the 1960s published in "Paris Match" (a French equivalent of "Life" magazine.)

I never buy "porn" - I buy real life artists who sell in sl as an experimental format / forum. I consider all art work to be legitimate as long as it does not denigrate or defile the human form and the rights of the model. If you dont like what you see shut your eyes - "Living is easy with eyes closed" as Lennon wrote. Artists may indeed portray the female body but I also had males in art also. I can't quibble with Michelangelo's "take" on the male torso and I guess neither did the Popes when he did their living room ceiling for them.

Recently, I have noticed many artists migrating away from sl since the rules have become so restrictive as to make the creative process almost impossible. SL had a great idea but it's selling out to the not-so-silent moral majority.

The new rules are so vague as to be laughable. It is, of course, the age-old debate about porn and art, but I am simply removing any nudes and other controversial art from any of my places in mature and PG. And destroying them. Artists I know would not wish their art to be displayed or owned under such draconian measures as censorship and decision-making by "committee" . I might add on this point that Hal and I were actually going to DONATE all our art to Linden Labs and SL as a museum of the creative efforts of the residents and "visitors" to our world. The only proviso for visitors would have been a donation to an animal shelter of their choice.

Naturally, since this "slight" that won't be occuring.

I am a successful working artist (not in the 2D world) and find this whole "issue" a distasteful reminder that artists everywhere must seek recognition for their right to express themselves in demanding and dangerous circumstances. Obviously this is not such a case - but it IS a reminder of what reality can be like. I truly urge SL to consider removing the selective ban (because that is what it is) on art and self-expression in PG and Mature (when that comes about). Artists in sl simply shake their heads. SL is shortly going to lose one of Australia's finest artists (who recently exhibited in Brisbane at the celebration human dignity and life at their main art gallery) because of this nonsense. I cannot say who I really am but I am actively involved in the rights of artists and writers and I think I have made a difference in the real world. "Jig-here" is not so serious as "Jig-there".

My apologies if I seemed to rant. I have been a model (nude and othewise) for real artists and I have produced my own work. I commision art works on a constant basis. I do know what I am talking about. Art is my life. Art is me.

Thanks. D, for this open-ended thread.

My pleasure - and I really do think you should put your art works back, at least on the mature parcel. If this person can do it - so can you.
