Personally, my first computer was an Amstrad512 I can remember trying to create a program using Logo to draw letters on the screen so I could program their positions... *L* |

When I was your age, we had to enter our data using a small magnet and a steady hand. Uphill. In the snow. Both ways. Whippersnappers these days with their keyboards and operating systems...grumble...grumble... |

Talking about old computers and memories affixed to them is about as much fun as listening to paint dry for the generation born into macs and laps and mobiles. I bet they had nostalgic chats about chain mail in olden days. Before artillery was invented. So Hurry up, granma and granpa! Don't miss teh bus! : miles sweetly:: the great thing about kids is that they think they will never be old enough to have nostalgia for the things that were once new to them. When I was your age, we had to enter our data using a small magnet and a steady hand. Uphill. In the snow. Both ways. Whippersnappers these days with their keyboards and operating systems...grumble...grumble... You had magnets? Luxury! We had to mix chemicals to make batteries and then hook them up to frogs' legs. you poured in a little of this, the leg went to the left for "ON"; pour in a little of that, the leg went right for "OFF". And we loved it! real programmers use butterflies.... just saying ![]() _____________________

Not sure about teh butterflies metaphor. Maybe I'll get nostalgic for some things but computers are just glorified typewriters so you cant really get warmly involved in a piece of plastic and tiny spot welding. I migth as well fall in love with a steam iron. But dont mind my interruptions. Just carry on...jig unzips her jeans and get ready for bed. _____________________

I can't get online right now but I think he was a unemployed Scotsman or a Swiss bloke who was a teacher (or doctor?). Then there was a Swede who was very helpful (if you understood Swedish) and he was into boats. _____________________

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

I still remember paying $500 for 4 MB of RAM (thats MEGAbyte, not GIGAbyte) in 1994 for my 486DX-2, and another $500 for a 1 GB Hard Drive.

The original Altair came with 256 bytes of RAM (that's 256 bytes, not kilo or mega), for $500 assembled. A 4k memory board was another $400. _____________________

How do you find the time to post here ![]() I use sl as a relaxation from my real work and its been a night time thing for me. Late, late at night, coming down from my busyness SL is a quiet solitude. Hal appears from UK and we make love. I wander. I schmooze around. Then I find sleep. This is not my computer so I only use this for a few days for this forum. I have had sex with many men in sl. They're all wonderful. I wish the men in my real had teh charms of many of these men but I dont meet them even in what I do. ![]() _____________________

*LOL* I thought you were talking about Grace Hopper's original computer bug. Your response is more chaotic, though. both work, although IIRC grace's was a moth. _____________________
