XStreet sales - In The Pot

Over the past few weeks I have seen my XStreet sales plummet to non-existence. In the past thirty days I have sold more items inworld than on XStreet, something that has not happened since I put my first items up last August.

I'm not even selling my freebies anymore, and those were always good for four or five a day. I haven't sold a freebie in three days now!

Is anyone else experiencing this?

My XStreet sales are fairly equal with my inworld sales.

Both are flat. :-/

It goes up and down. But yes, xstreet sales have not been good lately except for my < 20 L$ stuff.

My sales have been down about 35% in the last two weeks. Disappointing what with all the SL promotion.

my XSSL sales work out to about 10% of my total sales usually, I sell much more in world. Probably because I sell clothes and so do a million other people on there. But I actually have seen a jump in sales there lately, so when I do my April books it might be a little better than 10%. I hope it's just a little slump Ghosty but I've seen a few ppl over there complaining in forums that something seems weird about how their sales have gone down.

I would have to say this could be due to a couple of things.

First, their login cookie never remembers that you want adult content enabled.. this hurts us creators who have shapes or love animated furniture in builds...

Second, Who the hell designed the algorithm for the search anyways.. Can it be replaced? Or at the very least fixed. The search is worse the in world!!!!

my sales are up on xstreetsl
*shrug*

not that a couple hundred a week makes much difference in the big picture (that's a couple hundred lindens, not dollars.... (I wish dollars!))
shoot I do not even sell a couple hundred dollars worth in a month, let alone a week...

That was about my average, L3-500 a week. The last couple of weeks it's ALL gone downhill. I don't sell anything adult, so that's not it ...

One of the biggest thigns i hve found for keeping my XStreet sales up has been adding new items. The more consistantly I add new items the more sales I get from there (same with in world i guess).

I think this is mostly because youritems are at the top of search when they are new. So someone might sarch for one thing, click on yours then click on more by the merchant anc check out your other stuff and buy.

I know I do this a lot so i suspect that others do as well.

I have also stopped uploading in bulk. I try to upload a few items a day. esp where theitem is the same in various colours etc. Thsi gives me a spread throughout serch rather than a clump

Shhhh! that's my sales tactic too, don't tell everyone. Well only my tactic, because uploading more than a few items at a time turns me to drink. I have noticed recently a newly placed item can end up on page 20 in as many minutes some nights.

I shop both xl street and inworld. The problem I have with xl street is that some of the product photos doesn't look the same as the product inworld. An example, I purchased some balloons for 1L. They were described as purple and the photo to me looked purple. But when I rezzed them inworld, they were more blue looking than purple. I was like, thank God I didn't buy more because I needed purple. I didn't gripe because they were only a dollar. Had I spent 250L, I would've been pissed.

I was not aware of this, and its good to know. I haven't added any new items for a while. I am in the throes of moving from Seattle to Arizona.

My sales and traffic on xstreet seem about the same as usual, likely down just a little from where they were a month or two ago, but not a big change. Of course, a tiny percentage of my sales come from xstreet, so I am probably not a very good case study.

I think this might be as a direct result in LL pushing everybody to sell on Xstreet. My sales initially increased but have dropped this last month.I expect them to keep dropping as the market gradually reaches bursting point. It will then become a lottery like inworld.Or same as inworld,,,, who games it the most or pays the most in adverts gets the sales.
Just my opinion though.

Ghosty - do you think that people might read your Xstreet ad, then come to your inworld store to buy?

I experiment all the time to see what ads work....this week I didn't do any store group promotions and left off forum ads - to see what Xstreet would do alone. The week before, Xstreet sales were way down.

Added some new products.....and busted out some featured ads. Most people don't buy my stuff right on Xstreet, because you really have to see furniture in person to try it out....also, price point is a little higher than most.....so they come inworld before making that purchase.....which makes it hard to track.

After adding a few new products....(my least favorite thing to do - it takes so much time - have to force it)....then added some extra featured items.....sales at store inworld were through the roof. Since I left off other promotions.....have to attribute that to Xstreet. Some would have come off classified ads....but I think most had to be from Xstreet, because the sales were boxed sets, and that's what I run there.

Also - another way I track that - and not sure how your store is set up....but if I put the slurl on Xstreet to drop them off right in front of that item....I can watch on the map to see where they land. Since a classified ad will tp them to a main entrance....I can rule out them landing in front of a certain set.....the classified ad would not have dropped them off there......the Xstreet ad does.

So if I'm watching the map....and see a green dot land at a specific location, only given on Xstreet.....that pretty much tells me that's where they came from.....if they click and buy that boxed set....nailed it....it was Xstreet.....and that's what happened over and over again, this week. I even left off the roof of most of the store....so I can see each set on the map real clearly.....and watch.

If you're selling 100L or 200L items....going to be hard justifying busting out the 899L for a featured listing.....but hands down, that's what works for me. I can justify it because I only have to sell one boxed set to pay for it.

The more items you have listed....the more shots you have of making a connection.....or selling something else on your list. You should be able to see on your Xstreet traffic counts graph how that goes into place, after adding a few more products. If you've not tried the featured listing option....you might splurge a few times, and see what happens.

And somehow figure out a way to track it like I do....so you know you're not pissing into the wind. I wish they would develop some way to track where your landings come from.....similar to how you track hits to your web site or blog......sure would make it a lot easier.....and not a guessing game.

I do this with the various designer groups. When I have something new to show or a special sale, etc. I generally do each group once during the week - some in the day, some at night to try to hit various time zones. I used to send all the notices out at once and then realized when I got like 3 or 5 from the same merchant for the same item/sale within a few minutes, it overloaded my mind instead of me wanting to go check it out.

ETA: Re: XStreet - whew, spent about 8 hours between last night and this morning renaming many of my products and tweaking the descriptions/keywords a bit and still have a little more to go. Developed a bit of a system though so hopefully going forward it won't be so time-consuming.

Sales...hmmmm...I think they may have dropped a tiny bit on Xstreet, but picked up in world. However, I have run a special at my store this week.

they are only at the top if people sort new to old
some sort by price, some sort by popularity, etc

they will show on top of the new items though if people use that option...

I tend to scatter my search habit...

The few times I buy something, I go to Xstreet (did the same with OnRez with better results) and then get it inworld after seeing the product.

btw I tried to find my own stuff and couldnt most of the time.

Someone tracked me down a couple months ago because they got a shirt I made and wanted one for their alt. They couldnt find it again on the site a second time to save their lives.

I took a business class at TUi long ago and someone there said they search from bottom to top to encourage small businesses and those just getting started. I thought that was interesting.

I am selling more in world than on xstreet now as well since they took over. I even stopped paying for FEATURED item placement.. sales have been the same since.. No change except saving an extra 900L .

I have been able to consistently predict in world sales for years now but have found SLX sales to fluctuate wildly, they are erratic, some months I can make 10 times as much on SLX as I did the month before without adding any new content. I find SLX sales very hard to predict so I don’t even bother now. Just see those sales as a bonus.

Interestingly this only applies to my prefab business. My textures business on SLX is very stable and has been for a year or so. People are happy to buy textures straight from SLX rather than visiting in world as they would with prefabs.

I am all over the place on how I search
sometimes old to new, sometimes new to old, sometimes most popular, sometimes just randomly pick something on the main page from the ads, and then see what else has been bought by buyers of that item...

as I said, my shopping search is all over the place heh
