From: Isablan Neva I seem to remember that in his very first blog post, M said something about "stability being job #1."
One does have to give him credit - we may have had fewer bells and whistles but SL IS far more stable than it was year ago. True From: Isablan Neva Anyone remember last April when half of the sales transactions failed...for weeks? arg !!! I remember To OP. I can run for hours now without crashing not like back then. I like that. Advances ??? I dont want no technological advances. Thats what OpenSim is for. Can advance all you want there. And when is proved over there or where ever else then LL can co-opt it into SL for me. =)

From: Lindal Kidd Sure, a lot of the concurrency number is bots, but that isn't the point. The point is that the grid can now support higher concurrencies than just a few months ago. Traffic bots use fewer resources than real people, so if 10,000 real people sign out, 40,000 bots can sign in, and it looks like the grid is handling higher concurrency. I think they really have made progress, but the recent run-up in concurrency is probably all bots, and the system is handling it because there are fewer real people. I'm afraid to do another bot survey. Really, I think it'd make me give up.

From what I can gather, ther have been no significant technical advances in the wider 'world' of virtual worlds recently. We have the SL 'copycats' like Hipihi and the SL 'clones' based on OpenSim, which are playing catch-up at the very most. The only new worlds I've come across recently are more cartoony with avatars with gaint heads and clearly aimed at children. I did see an advert for a 3D virtual gambling world, though, which has graphics fairly similar to SL.

No technological advance is nonsense. Just not very clear to see, like windlight for example. Some very important changes were already mentioned.
On my machine, I cannot even enable windlight. 2 friends who wanted to try out SL, quit after a day because they barely could run it. So what is more important: enable more people to use SL, or inventing so much eye candy, only the high-end pc's can run SL?

From: Ciaran Laval Damned if you do damned if you don't. Concurrency couldn't reach 80,000 when the new CEO joined. Stability has improved. These are your basics, you get the basics right and then advance. I was in a store the other day and saw at least 8 "models" in their little pose stands, and then another store had over 12 posing in their little pose stands naked as a jaybird.. (selling skins) then of course there was that other store who only had 4....... But then I was in one store and the model spoke to me, which totally freaked me out!
