From: Ghosty Kips It's your sim, anything you want. Myself, personally, there aren't enough sims which represent classic literature. I personally would love to see Nineteen Eighty-Four done as a sim, but that's just my taste. Gather a bunch of artists together and have at it. After catching up with the never ending thread, I can't believe you didn't suggest a llama farm.

If someone had a notable build why would they donate it to me? There's a lot of people who have built stuff on OpenSpaces who are going "OMG, what am I gonna do in July". You could make a sim-sized holodeck. Edit: I can see why you're excited about it. I remember what Jasper was like when he bought Steamboat.

I love all your ideas, most of the "build some crazy art thing" plans are a bit beyond me since I can't build for the life of me and most of the fun in that kind of stuff is actually making it I think.
The holodeck is a fine plan but it sounds like one of those things that I'll set up and advertise and have absolutely no takers two months later.
I'm definitely leaning towards the open air amphitheatre maybe with a park around the outside, especially since I was thinking of doing that anyway. I'm sure SL doesn't need yet another live music venue but if it was built right other things could be done there as well, like plays or poetry or whatever. Plus, it would be a massive massive money sink but, just like everyone else in SL, I'd love to give it a try.
I'd also love, love, love to extend the train track but I'm not sure if three sims worth of track is really enough to do anything with.

if you have 50-100 meter that are flattish the mainlands can always use another air strip /airport, or two and with you owning the area around it designing to make take off safer from a ban line crash perspective is easier

A giant trebuchet that shoots people across three sims to land in your land store in Steamboat.
Inside grand pianos and volkswagens.
That shatter on impact.

You might also want to contact the ballet companies or the Shakespeare company in SL. There are all kinds of wonderful uses for that space. You could sustain it with a few shops, but it would need the other stuff publicized well in order to get the traffic. If you had a boat launch, maybe some 7Seas fishing, or hold vehicle races there, it would sustain the interest to keep people coming back. The sim itself would need to be properly managed as an event space. You would need some kind of staff to organize it.

The sim-wide holodeck idea whilst very cool would not work anyway. Mainland sims cannot be terraformed in the same way as estate land and for the majority of builds the terrain is as important as the prims. My vote would be for a library of displayed artworks. I am thinking huge sculptures mainly that would be on plots throughout a park. Each plot would change artwork periodically from the available library. The plots would be scaped to blend with the park generally. I would put benches out, picnic areas, birds to feed etc. basically anything that will in addition to the artworks cause people to spend time there - like RL large parks have. People would donate their art because they want it seen for free, might even be an opportunity for that artwork to be available for sale whilst it is rezzed with a percentage of each sale going to Elanthius and the remainder to the artwork creator. EDIT: Combine this with Cristalle's idea of a performance arts area and the whole thing would be awesome

I have a 8 platform art installation I'd love to put up, but it's 1650 prims, covers 40 x 40 meters and it's definitely not PG.

From: Elanthius Flagstaff I'd also love, love, love to extend the train track but I'm not sure if three sims worth of track is really enough to do anything with. Sure it is, depending how you lay the tracks. The original Caledon Trolley only goes through three regions but attracted a LOT of people. About the same number as our Caledon National Rail which goes through... oh I don't know waaaay more than three regions. If you want a train, get someone capable of reading directions and putting commands in a notecard - light scripting knowledge would be handy but not required to do the job. There is a free and VERY easy to set up multi-region train + cars package available from Barney Boomslang, look in his picks and pick it up. Best of all you can make any particular sort of train you want and put the scripts in there. * * * * * Elanthius, for a while I had an openspace all my own - just trees on it, really, and a stray animal or two. What did I do there? Not much. I just answered IM's and it was set private, so nobody could walk up while I was focused in the communicaton window. 75 a month back then, or 3 bucks a day and 110% worth it for someone who works their tail off on the grid. I ditched it with the arrival of the openspace mess - but for someone who does what you do, you might want to consider it.

It is a mainland sim Desmond, surely you aren't advocating Elanthius throw up the banlines on a whole mainland sim are you? I would hope not.

We still need an in world recreation of Edgar Rice Burrough's Barsoom. We could sweet talk someone at Grendel's Children to make the thoats and the green warriors. Change the Windlight settings to a reddish sky and have people walking around saying things like "Had we but known the dire fate that would befall us . . . " I also think an improbable wildlife sanctuary would be cool. Where else are all the winged rhinoceroses and sabre-toothed koalas going to live?

If they didn't they'd have to come over and set it up when called. I'm thinking of things like the Mushroom Kingdom (I think Salazar has that, not sure), and the Temple of Hathor (Elgyfu).

That is a great sim! Congrats on getting it. I like the idea of making it a public access friendly and fun sort of place. I'd nix the cuddly date stuff; dates can become non-PG rather quickly. A small event area would be cool (small because mainland sim limit is 40 of course). Rotating art displays, fun snow critters, and ice fishing would be welcome attractions.
You could maybe have a contest to entice content creators to "build some crazy art thing" for display in the sim.

There is an amazing free amphitheatre done by the Zebra folks (spin off of Metanomics I think). There is small one for 60 and a big one for 120 as far as I can remember. I'll come back and post a link after I'm inworld if someone doesn't beat me to it. Edit: Here is the slurl for the free amphitheatres..they have other corp builds available too: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Zebra%20HQ/75/37/27

From: Jerboa Haystack Outside the box...but it's a thought. Definitely a cool idea! (Did you see my "Outpost" in Dasher? Along somewhat similar lines. I love that sort of thing!)

You're still back in good old 2005, aren't you? Mainland sims are no less capable than islands, and the days where 15 avatars lagged a sim are long past.

Alright, amphitheatre/train/art display combo it is. Anyone know someone who can do a decent job building it for, like, L$30k?
