Hi, after floundering around the world for a couple of years, I have had a thought about an item which i don't think exists in SL. It would take an age to get organised but I wondered if anyone knew approx how many child avs there are in SL?

Many thanks

Some of us are, some of the time. I have also been seen as a small glowing green ball. Does that count as a child energy cloud? :p

Point taken LittleMe, its just that I think the item I have in mind would appeal more to child avs, but who knows?

I don't think anyone could give you an approximate number. You can't really count the actual residents playing as kids but you can try looking at the underlying support structure. You'd have to take a look at the groups, events, stores, regions that support AV children and possibly compare those to other groups like furries, goreans... etc. Maybe check the traffic that certain regions get.

Well, there's enough people who use child avatars, at least part of the time, that there are more than enough thriving busineses to fill a large mall with diverse products aimed strictly at kid-type avatars. If you have a possible product that would appeal to someone in a kid-type avatar, I'd recommend that you go ahead with developing it, and suggect you should try to get space in one of the many malls that is dedicated to that type of roleplay. Clothes, kids toys, bikes, dolls, kid-sized furniture, animations designed for very short avatars, expecially for childlike actions... There's all sorts of things that a kid avatar could use, and that their Players would happily pay for.

If this is a marketing thing why not ask the current owners or creators of shops/content for child avatars in SL. (Said while hoping this is a rated-PG item.)

There is no way to know how many people have child avatars in SL, since it's possible for users to create their own avatars, but if you are making clothes/hair/shoes etc., there is enough market - as much as any other avatar probably. But the shop owners would know best.

SL children are not like any other subculture and it is a valid question.

All the other subcultures mentioned (you left out men who are women again - tsk such bias jabs from a diverse and allegedly tolerant society) belong to the RL age/generational eligibility requirements.

SL children are like the ubertoons in Toontown: they are probably older than most of the membership in RL and therefore more experienced, possibly much wiser and more enlightened than the virtual status quo. The ubertoons are small life levels and carry a limited number and variety of but fully capable gags; there is almost always an experienced player behind the ubertoon who knows more strategic maneuvers and has grown even more savvy with their limitations. Likewise the SL kids have knowingly set limitations for themselves and must as a rule exist within PG parameters to remain eligible while the resident is in that persona. That does set them apart.

It would be interesting to know how many there are. Personally I think it is nice to see so many people come to SL for the pure enjoyment of the medium and the pure fun one can have.

Ive been a child av in SL for years but I also grow weary that is brought up so often.... ya got a product for kids? sell it, it will either sell or not, the forums isnt needed.... just do it, jeezy. Would I buy it? prolly not, I have almost 5 years worth of inventory and need nothing.

There are over 750 of 'em in the SLC group, and many kids do not belong to same.

Ok - did not know you were curious due to a marketing idea.
