We seem to be surrounded (in these forums and in the wider world, socially and in the media) by political correctness, "spin" and mealy-mouthed euphemisms which damn with faint praise.

What is *your* attitude when confronted with questions like "Does my bum look big in this?" and do you think it is kinder that those who lack self-awareness should be allowed to continue in their blissful ignorance, or should they be put out of their unrealised misery?

I just finally figured out the binomial probability formula without tearing out too much of my hair so I'm in a good mood and since I am a connoisseur of female hindparts I will elaborate on this query "Does my butt look big in this...?" that seems to perplex many men.

As Seven said, this question is not literal. If she wanted to know the literal answer, she would probably ask one of her girlfriends. She wants to know whether you still find her attractive or that you are paying attention at all. Has she gained a few pounds over the years, perhaps via the cardinal sin of popping out babies for you? A wise man would be grateful for such a sacrifice (I think a wise man appreciates a round ass anyway, but I guess that is a self-serving bias :D) and no matter what the cause if you would really prefer that she lost weight it should be obvious that lavishing appreciation on her will have better results than criticisms in the form of "harsh truths."

If your wife/girlfriend has to ask you the butt question, you are probably not expressing enough appreciations of herself and her form in the first place. I suggest feeling her up more often. Telling her how much you love her on a regular basis helps too. So what is the right response to "Does my butt look big in this...?" Anything that makes her feel appreciated is probably a good bet. "Back that ass up over here, mama, and I'll take a closer look," etc... Be creative :D

Pep, my friend, having logicz skills is great but there are parts of life that are emotional and logic will not save you at these times.

What your poll fails to address is whether your opinion is sought at all. If asked a direct question (or are in a situation where you are expected to provide an opinion) then yes, I agree, be honest, even if it might lead to hurt feelings.

If not, then I'd go whichever option in your poll is closest to STFU.
