Well.. how many other people have seen this when they try to log in to Second Life tonight? And .. what is your reaction to this? As a paying customer of second life ( who pays for their account and owns land and pays tier fees) .. quite frankly, I am a bit annoyed that I cannot access it when I want to! Let me hear what you think..

Just a BS message in my opinion. Here is what they are saying on the Grid Status site . . .

Edited, added update just posted, sam eBS message when trying to log though :-)

[UPDATE 4:05 PM PDT] We have temporarily disabled logins while this issue is investigated.

Temporary Database Issues
Posted by Status Desk on August 20th, 2008 at 04:00 pm PDT

We are currently experiencing a problem with the database that may result in difficulties logging in, rezzing objects, completing transactions, and searching. We are aware of this issue and our ops team are working to resolve it as swiftly as possible. In the mean time, please avoid making important transactions or rezzing no-copy objects.

I think that I would rather wait to log in when the database is struggling, than to have it finish melting down just so I can have the satisfaction of logging in to see it happen.

Yes, but when it was down, it was down for everyone. Now, there are tons of alts and bots on the grid keeping the people that pay for the service out. It's like going on a cruise, paying for it, then the captain telling you that you have to stay on the docks because they let in a large group of non-paying people and they are now in your (and everyone else that paid but has not yet checked in) staterooms.

I think there should be a "please type in the letters as you see them on the screen" routine every so often during high volumes or be logged out as a bot. Sort of a human verification, annoying but better than not getting in.

sounds like the bot over at slex is doing well.

Earlier, I was not able to access my mainland region. I just had 3 transactions time-out in a row. TP's are not functioning normal, the search is extremely slow if it comes up at all.

I wonder if my group notice even went out like it was supposed to.

They don't post Grid Status on the Blog anymore. There is a Grid Status Page:

They've started reporting that kind of info on the status report page, rather than the blog. Easy to miss if you don't know where to look.

I subscribe to the RSS feed from the reader on my homepage to keep up.

*edit - Nevermind. Brenda was faster. :p

True...my perspective is funny on that given that I WAS payin' Premium & Land back then, & I ain't now. I could care less back then, but hey, my virtual band got a gig tonight, WTF???

STOP. :D

Well I mean come on...we always had folks islands disappearin, then Copybot came out...always had the random inv loss, even L$1,000,000s in losses per av for I dunno how many people.

But for everybody playin a violin who's been in SL for a few months or more AND USES THE FORUMS???

LOOK:

The downtime just started, we ain't just sign up, we know this is how SL goes...if u put enough of an investment into it ta have a "heart attack" about this after a few minutes...maybe u should quit SL & cut your losses...come back in a year or somethin & hit these forums...see if it's stable.

Damn. You know what stage the platform is in...complainin' is cool, but don't get too worked up cause this is how it's ALWAYS been...this ain't like the first hurricane in Idaho or some crap. Downtime happens, this is SL.

This is why I ain't payin Premium, and neither is my grrl, who sells RL art every day from the Grid.

Rent, cut costs, minimize investments. This tech ain't stable enough to depend on yet.
