Ugly neighbour parcel

To both sides of our beautiful residential parcel we have ugly commercial areas. Are there any hints how to disguise these neighbourhoods? Maybe a huge wall with a nice picture on it. Are there any products to buy?
Many thanks, Violet

Thanks, Strife.

Violet, I bought a bunch of sky textures from TRU, but I believe Har has some landscape screens you can buy.

How much do you neeed to hide? You could erect your own screens (maybe some 20X20 prims) and apply textures of your choice, in keeping with the look and feel of your land.
If you don't have any 20X20 prims, drop me a PM and I'll pop in and send you some.

A good opportunity to upload some of your favourite landscape photos and texture the screens with them. As an aside, there are some magnificent examples of 360 degree views set up in boxes that make the viewer think they are somewhere real.

Hi Violet,

Depending on how much you need to hide, how high up, and the look of the surrounding area of course..

I've made a reasonable looking hedge to hide some junk on a neighbour's parcel. I think Chas has a full perms copy as well. Feel free to shoot me an IM if you think it might be useful. It's free btw.

Good luck :)

Hi Usagi,
I agree that it's a shame that some parcels get filled up for that purpose.
That doesn't entirely apply in this case though, from what I can gather.
The OP is living next to an ugly commercial area and my neighbour is simply never around, so people use their parcel to unpack boxes, which then get left because there's no auto-return set.
Not much LL can do about that as far as I can tell.

Mornin Sally! <waves, still munching popcorn and swigging lemo>

I don't auto-return on my plot. I suppose I ought to. The other day I did a vertical take off and landing to see what was in the sky around me and found a rather cute little bumper car dangling in mid-air with an engine noise. I didn't realise till later it was actually on my plot LOL That got returned ;)

/me holding breath to see what the new neighbour's going to put up.

And at the very least... color all 5 of the sides not facing your property with a clear texture. I have a neighbor who had a super ugly, low rez forest scene that looked like the plastic effect in photoshop was applied to it before they applied motion blur. It was horrid, and I had to look at it for 6 months. The reason they had the wall up wasnt my land, rather a couple of ad lots, which I wound up building a sky scraper around (3 sides of it at least). After a few weeks of my sky scraper hiding the ads, they took down the wall. So, just because you want to cover up an ugly build with a huge wall (something I'd personally never do), at least dont force them to look at your huge wall.

well when property own junkup their land and case junk yard is what i refering too. well leaving
packed and open boxes from those that are unknown is a problem regradless........

Well LLABS can do somethin gIF they wanted too. for over 10 months and countless abuse reports nothing. They just don`t know who to trust since alts are so many and they could be the ladnowner themselves trying to force people to seell out because of the junkup look.

If the neighbors are *really* never around and there are still prims available on their parcels, you can send them an extremely nice IM, then fill their parcels with (non-Linden) plants, fake terrain, etc, to try to cover up what the careless have left behind. This of course violates some rule or other, but if you explain to them that you're eager for their return, and you're only acting to temporarily protect against the current wave of griefers, it's pretty unlikely that they'll AR you. (On the downside, it adds prims to the sim... but better they be pretty ones than whatever random junk washes up otherwise.)

megaprim anti-ad wall
11-28-2007 05:52
I made a megaprim wall with a great forest scene on it, clear on all other sides and phantom so nobody flys into it and put it between my property and a bunch of add lots.

Contact me in world if you want it... if you rezz it be sure you look from all sides before you try again if you dont see it :) as all sides but one are perfectly clear.

 I hadn´t even thought of that!

We´ve tried every possible way of communicating with this guy, but never a single response in many months. We have had some success with contacting the owners of the litter though.

Actually, it got so bad recently with boxes with a gazillion lines of hovertext and the like, we actualy ARd the stuff and the next day the place had been cleaned up.

You're trying to sell land next to bilbo? I'm sorry. Perhaps you could put up a screen and buyers won't notice. ;)

lol in rl.

bilbo has a very nice property. a nice house and garden. very TASTEFUL. no screen needed.

HOWEVER ....

i do have a firehouse on the other side. didn't use a screen. but 20x20 stone walls covered with vegetation sufficed.

Well, for personal reasons I had to sell my land some time ago...

Today I hoped into SL to see what happened to it.... It is not junk, but what I saw did make me sad.
I know... I know... not my land anymore. But still :(
